Do you remember our last video? We asked some interviewees in Milan how they spend their Christmas. Well, this time we did the same in Naples, so today we're going to find out with Raffaele how Neapolitans spend their Christmas!

1) 6:34 - Insalata di rinforzo: a traditional Neapolitan salad of cooked cauliflower and pickled vegetables, which is traditionally brought out at Christmas Eve and 'reinforced' with top up ingredients and leftovers until New Year!
6:38 - Struffoli: a Neapolitan speciality of little balls of dough that are deep fried and dipped in honey.
6:42 - Pastiera: another Neapolitan specialty. It's a sweet cream cheese tart that's traditionally eaten at Easter.
2) 7:31 - Sette e mezzo: a card game similar to Blackjack.
3) 8:03 - Tombola scostumata: a traditional Neapolitan variation of tombola (similar to bingo) where the numbers are extracted by a character similar to a panto dame, who then interprets the spiritual meaning of the number with a number-divination book.

Have you guys ever thought about adding a third line of translation where it is a direct translation of the Italian words? At the moment, you are translating the sentence to get the same meaning in English which is extremely helpful but it would be useful to know exactly what was being said and in what order (I'm not sure I'm explaining this well at all, it would be so that it is written in English with Italian grammar)
Thank you for your useful comment! We think it'd be unfortunately a bit complicated to put that into practice since it'd be hard for viewers to follow three lines of translation for each video. Thanks for your idea anyway, very much appreciated! 😊
Grazie per questo video! Sono un pilota americano che trascorre molto tempo in Italia. Un Natale che ho trascorso a Napoli e, come ha affermato un gentiluomo nel video, ho potuto dire che i napoletani sono sia tradizionali che superstiziosi. Questo rende la serietà unica e divertente. Ad esempio, la mattina di Natale di quell'anno, vidi due uomini in costume che suonavano uno speciale strumento tipo cornamusa mentre correvano in giro cantando una serenata a ciascuna immagine di Gesù sui muri lungo le strade!
Per favore, ho una richiesta. Mi piacerebbe fare uno scambio linguistico (inglese per italiano e viceversa) come un modo per fare rete, imparare e fornire un servizio alla comunità. Ho intenzione di continuare i miei soggiorni a Napoli. Potresti mettermi in contatto con le tre donne (ad esempio al minuto 2 del tuo video)? Penso che potrebbero essere ottime candidate. Squadra Easy Italian! Potreste fare una puntate nella strada sul uso della parola 'figo/fico'? Per essempio, chiedere gente 'Cosa si definisce essere figo?', or 'Pensi che gli italiani sono figo?, qualcosa così!

Mio marito ed io compriamo regali solo per il nostro figlio e le mie nipoti e così evitiamo lo stress e il materialismo di Natale. Una curiosità: in albanese si dice anchora da qualche parte « buone natali ». Credo che si diceva così perché prima le comunità cristiane (i catolici ed i ortodossi) celebravano Natale in date diverse.
