Is there a different style where the final step is a side close (left foot rejoins the right)? So the forward motion would be "left", "right", "left", "right + side close"?
Yes, there are different figures, for example:
- [ ] Closed Promenade (RF side in PP, cross forward , side, close).
- [ ] Closed Finish (RF back, side, close).
- [ ] Back Corte (LF diag back, back, side, close)

It is international tango which is used in dancesport.

Thats not what we call tango neither in Argentina nor Uruguay, I dont know what that is. International tango competitions use the original style, this is another style of dancing, i wouldnt call it tango
