A talented actor whose light shone bright before fading away.

Don't dwell on his parting or sufferings in life too much... he had happy times as all of us do. He also entertained a nation. Well done Barry, you made millions smile and laugh. A life lived is no sorrow surely!
100%
He did very well in his youth...but after an age..left to ones own devices you can slip..or become ill withouit anyone knowing..i did..its very easy..for me he`ll always be the starv of mulberry bush...it was the 60`s.........
Did he only entertain a nation? I've been watching and enjoying his work by watching it on the Icelandic Broadcasting Company, and also in Spain, for decades
I saw him on "Mind Your Language" on "Gulf Times" (Now Al Jazeera) Made me laugh very much. Sad outcome, but understandable...
Really heroic that he picked up a work as a Taxi driver after being so famous. (in my eyes)
Bless the ones that was a good friend with him in ups & downs to the end.
Thankyou so much for writing your comment. I felt very upset about learning about Barrys Life as a young boy and then later . I am glad I read your comments as it lifted me about his life.
As a teenager I had the biggest crush on Barry Evens, I had pictures of him all over my bedroom walls.......he had a sad beginning and an equally sad ending...RIP Barry, I never forgot you.
But you forgot how to spell his name?
@@mikevale3620she wants his life to be on even ground
😢😢😢😢
RIPBarry Evans 😢
😢😢😢😢😢😢
He was an absolute acting legend; it kills me that he was unable to seek the assistance he required. I'll forever remember him as the legendary Mr. Brown. Rest in peace, Barry 🥲
R.I.P. TO BARRY EVANS . HE WAS SUPER GREAT IN " MIND YOUR LANGUAGE " !!!!
I ADORE Mind Your Language. Am I allowed to say that in this day and age? Great line about poster man!!!
Yes he was, sad how he died so young and suffered in the end, he deserved better.
I'm 63 now and had a crush on Barry Evans in the 60's and 70's. What a sad story, and horrible way to die. I wish they'd re-open the case and try to find what really happened. How sad too, that roles dried up for him, he was a wonderful actor for sure. Maybe he should have changed his agent? What a shame, he was lovely. Life can be brutal.
I'm 63, i remembered falling in love with Barry when I was very young. I just thought he was so beautiful. I watched anything he appeared in, he was an amazing actor, a talent that was never appreciated, I loved his voice, his facial expressions and simply how he touched my heart. Present day, Jonny Depp reminds me of Varry so much, especially when he smiles, if only Barry had been born later, I'm sure he would have fulfilled any ambitions he had.As for the lad mentioned in the documentary, I have my personal thoughts on that one, suffice to say, I hope his conscience never knows peace.Barry Evans, wherever you are, you are missed, and still remembered, you are a star, and will shine forever more.Inger.
*Yes, I would have to agree! Having "insufficient evidence" does not mean innocence on the part of the accused.*
I am 70, I thought he was absolutely gorgeous. Such a shame he didn't go onto bigger things.
He is super gorgeous....i believe....i watched the MYL and developed this heartstring on him....anyone who watched barry will fall inlive with him i believe...
Looking at these comments it's nice to see he had such admirers. I only wish he could have known. I think it would have brightened him up considerably, to know he is still significant.
I need to stop watching these videos, because I can't stop crying. I loved him so much, what a beautiful man... and feel so sad as to how he died 😢
Me too😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
~ Damn..you are right...me too ~ 😂
Me too.his life story really made me sad.😢😢😢
🥲😭💔
Rest in peace Barry you'll forever be in our hearts through the series MIND YOUR LANGUAGE and DOCTOR IN THE HOUSE.
@Myke .Of course I know that.
@@anitasamuels8821He could've been a more famous actor if he didn't pass away 😭😭😭
I was heartbroken to see this documentary, I wish he had the respect he deserved Barry will always be immortalized by his great acting which is now digitally recorded and preserved, and generations after us will surely enjoy watching it as much as we did or the 2 generations before us RIP The legend 😢
Gosh he was such a beautiful charismatic man. His smile was so infectious and warm . RIP
One thing l remember about Barry is he always had a smile on his face!
So sorry about the tough times Barry went through. He really deserved better. Mind your language and the Doctor series were unforgettable. This man was a genius. RIP Barry.
Incredibly moving, and so sad that a talent such as Barry's ended as it did, RIP
As a kid I loved mind your language. How sad his life was filled with struggles and his sad death. Loved this by the way
🌷
I loved watching Mind Your Language in the 90s when they broadcast reruns in South Africa.
@yolandasamuels3213 Yes me to. With South Africa being a multicultural country it was quite fitting. I lot of the jokes went over my head but the silly characters were always a joy to watch.
A hard life for a talented man. Loved his work. Rest easy Barry.
Sentimental without being mawkish, honest without being blunt, emotional without being saccharine, insightful without being intrusive, a beautifully crafted short documentary that took this viewer on a thought provoking emotional rollercoaster; whilst introducing many of us to an otherwise forgotten man.
Mark, you did yourself and *Barry Evans proud.🧡
*For those reading the comments before watching the video, spoilers, not the 'Eastenders' character murderd by Janine Evans (née Butcher).
Another wonderful comment! :) Thanks mate
Barry was such a handsome man as well and obviously, a lovely man anyone would love. It is indeed sad and so callously rejected wonderful talent by those who think what the public would accept! Shameful.
¹¹
Absolutely spot on.
Well that'least Barry Evans farts are better than Trevor's better than the films and Trevor's better than the films and Trevor's better than the films and Trevor's better than the films and Trevor's better than the films and Trevor's lol and troll's on you tube say that I'm a flatulance bully call security and I'm a flatulance bully and Trevor burrows is a flatulance god and he's famous and I'm jealous so everyone else's farts are better than the films and Trevor's better than the films and Trevor's better than the films and Trevor's better than Trevor burrows
Great Documentary.
I remember Barry Evans as a kid watching Mind Your Language…He was brilliant in it.
So sad that he died alone, I wish they could reopen the case.
May He Rest In Peace 🙏🏾💜🙏🏾
That was the saddest part and being robbed beforehand. Something more going on that the police shut the books on it.

Yeah...so "Easy-Peasy" for the local plod.... "Case Solved" Happens all the time. And it is getting worse. And we all know why.
Barry was my first crush. I loved doctor in the house and mind your language. I joined his fan club, the only one ever. I remember his passing and literally cried, it was so very sad. Never forgotten. RIP BARRY.
Thank you for making this documentary. He should never be forgotten.
I thought he was gorgeous.♥️
@@karenegan1688 wasn’t he just. He had the most gorgeous unique voice too.
RIP Dear Barry, Thank you for your amazing talent in Mind you Language that I still watch till today, shame on the industry for not supporting you further forcing you to another career just to survive.❤
I had always wondered what happened to Barry Evans....I then was 14yrs old and had the hugest crush on him. I loved Dr at large. This brought the old days back. Barry RIP 🙏. Thanks for sharing.
Thankyou for sharing sue 🙂👍
Even after Barry's pasing, he still cheers me with his Mind Your Language legacy. Miss you, Barry. Miss watching MYL with my family when I was a kid.
Was a young boy, but thought Barry was Great, in everything I watched of him. Forgot about him until I seen this, very fond memories, made me think of so many family members who are no longer here. a very sad ending. RIP Barry Evans. ✌️🏴
His role alone in Mind Your Language lives on forever, let's remind ourselves what an impact he still gives decades on.
I knew Barry since childhood days in ''Mind Your Language'' sitcom. The only real reason for me to learn the English language after i fell in love with the series acted by Barry and all the cast's. Just a horrible way to end his life, such a wonderful guy indeed and natural talent and full of talent. I think anyone will fall for his charm with his good looks. It is so sad to see him slip away like this until his ending. RIP from your fan in Malaysia.
Peace ☮️ be upon him and he will be remembered for centuries, awesome 🤩 actor.
Mind your language was the series that i came to him for. This series was the highlight of my secondary school years. Brought lot of joy to us. It was a ray of sunshine and comrade of our time.
I loved Barry and the whole cast in Doctor in the House. Talented, charming and so well liked. I was saddened when I learned of his passing. Thanks for putting this together.
Yes!
I remember watching the Doctor's series when it first came out. Thanks for telling his story.
Such a ending to a promising life. Goes to show that none of us must take things for granted, or guarantees in our lives..RIP Barry
Barry always had that mischievous but down to earth quality about him. There's something good natured about him all the way to his last roles. Brilliant actor whose untimely death cut his promise.
Foul play was suspected
I loved him. He was super good looking, funny and charismatic 🥂👏🥂👏🥂❤️🥂
"Aaahhhhh,..... memories of the 70's,come flooding back to me!".
I didn't know that Barry had such an extensive career.a talented intelligent guy..terribly sad the way it all ended!
I remember when he died, I was so sad. True, he always did have boyish looks but he also had an amazing voice. He should never have been out of work..
What a tragic life Barry had. Behind his optimistic facade, there was hidden depression and an internal cry for help. Still don’t understand why nobody wanted to give more tv / film roles in the later years. He had the talent and the on-screen good looks and charms. Learning about his life story teaches us that no matter how hard we work to make ends meet or good your prerequisites are, life isn’t always gonna treat us fairly…😪😢😭💔
So true Ann 💞
Allways liked him back in rhe day. Remember reading an article about him in the late seventies when he had been off the scene for a while and he was working in theatre, Reading between the lines it seemed as if he was having his problems even then. Did not know he was an abandoned kid though. Makes me think of my late dad a Royal Navy veteran. He allways used to say to my brother and I,'You two dont't know how bloomin lucky you are'. We often reflect on how right he was now we are both on our sixties. Barry seems to have had a rough time..
Yes I agreed! Barry had the talent and good Looks...he could have landed on more TV actings!
I wonder what happened to all those casts on Mind the language! They were all nice with each other .in the series..I guess they might have wanted to contact each other outside their acting life! Could make him happy 😁
@@liza8423 Ali, Ranjeet, Juan, Taro, Zoltan, Miss Courtney, Sidney, and Miss Gladys have all passed away. Now only Giovanni, Max, Danielle, Anna, Jamila, Su Lee and Ingrid are still here with us. Wish the deceased cast members were still around so everyone on the show could have a reunion.
My fave were Giovanni...Max and Juan! They were so funny 😂
I loved him in the Dr in the House series back in the 70’s. So very sad that his life ended as it did. RIP Barry Evans.
Unsolved case that should be re-opened, maybe it will, nicely put together, thanks.
Yes you never know! And thanks your welcome
In Malaysia, we used to watch Mind Your Language sitcom as our assignment project. Thanks to Barry Evans and the other actors. R.I.P
I really enjoyed watching Barry Evans in various TV programmes, a very sad death too. I hadn't realised he spent his childhood in an orphanage
😭 He was so handsome, so charming!
Here We Go Round The Mulberry Bush was a brilliant film of its style capturing the late Sixties period so well. Barry really shined, great acting and literally carried the film, playing a teenager but in reality was twenty three. Strange that like his co star Judy Geeson neither took off in movies when all looked so bright for both of them.
Can't believe I found this by chance just moments after trying to remember the cracking song and film The Mulberry Bush. Went to see it as a child and he was one of my first crushes along with Paul McCartney (same birthday it seems!) . Great to learn so much about him right here... 💘
Thank you for telling us anout his life. Even now people still enjoy 'Mind your language' and other performances. God bless his soul.
An actor who became typecast but capable of so very much more. When I think back to watching Barry it is that warm smile I recall,
shame it that behind it lay so much personal grief. RIP Barry you brought so much joy and a pleasure to watch. Mark this is a very thoughtful and well composed account.
What a brilliant documentary. I remember Barry Evans well from my childhood in the 70's. I knew he'd died, but I didn't know there were suspicious circumstances, or that his life had become so unhappy. Great work, Mark
🙂👍
I'm so angry at the police for not looking into the case more. He was murdered. He was such a lovely guy, I lived close by and we got to talk alot.
I'll never forget what a lovely generous guy he was, Even when he struggled with his depression.
His legacy and memories will live on.
@Jack Warner How can he be left unconscious if he reported his car missing after this mysterious youth apparently stole it?
JJ, Many thx for your comment. In what way was he a generous man please? I also agree that something isn't right on this. This should've been thoroughly investigated by the police.
Did you report your evidence of murder to the authorities?
@Jambo M Well thanks for thinking I look younger than I am, But he died when I was 13. My mother knew him for many years which is how I met him as a kid. Not that I need to explain anything to you.
@Jack Warner
An actor was not "important" enough to pursue the case further!
The industry destroys people, there are so many factors that determine you getting a part, so so sad this story of Barry, but it is reflective of so many actors and will never change.
Most of the times, the people who make others laugh and happy have a story of their own. Sometimes they are deeply hurt or try to hide their pain by making others happy.
Nice piece, put together well Mark. Being a child of the 70's, I have very fond memories of Barry in 'Mind Your Language'. Very sad how he met his demise at still a very young age of 53. If I was a betting man, I'd have money on that young lad having something to do with his death. But alas, I guess we'll never know now.
Rest in peace Barry... Xx
Had a huge crush on him as a young girl..and still think he was handsome / HOT!. Loved mind your language growing up. So sad that his life ended this way. Love to him.
Such a shame what happened to Barry..such a good looking, decent, well spoken gentleman who played some really good roles especially the FE ESOL teacher in Mind Your Language..his life started and ended with loneliness but fair play to him for putting himself out there and doing his best to get roles..thank you Barry..still miss you..rest in peace my dear friend 🙏🙏
That's such a sad story, he had so much to offer.
His character in Mind Your Language is also an orphan. I remember the episode in which Mr. Brown talks about being abandoned as a baby and him thinking the janitor, Sid was his father. The show was funny but now knowing that it was his real life story is sad. He was a charming actor with a tragic life.
I enjoyed watching mind your language when I was a youngster. Incredibly sad how he passed away and the struggles he endured. he brought so much joy to many.
RIP Barry Evans ❤️
Thanks for this Mark, I grew up watching ‘Mind ur Language “ and still watch the repeats on You Tube . Also loved the dr series .
I believe Barry was murdered , the blow on the head ..the drink and pills ,coroner report said he didn’t take any , it does not all add up., maybe it was set up like he had committed suicide , but foul play …..i think that his case should be reopened …. Poor Barry , hope he is resting in peace …such a gifted actor and extremely missed x
I remember him when I was little on TV he was nice looking..... What a sad childhood to be abandoned god bless him
I imagine it was being abandoned so early in life that led to his lifelong insecurities
Such a shame I really think if he could of just hung on a bit longer things would of picked up for him but he simply had enough of bad luck, he was very talented and deserved better. God Bless Barry.
Have you thought he may have chosen to become a taxi driver and NOT be famous anymore, it can be a bit of a lonely false life after a bit !!!!
if he could have hung on a bit? He drunk but he couldnt have smashed himself over the head! seems well dodgy that the last guy to see him alive took his car and keys and other things but wasnt convicted of a crime?
Great policing there!
Well done Leicester police! Outstanding work NOT!
Before this upload foul play was strongly suspected
I have always found it perplexing how such fame and fortune can be so transitory and frail. This is yet another talent that went unnoticed for far too long.
To Mr. Blown , Boss, Professorie, Masterji, the one and only Barry Evans....Thank you for the wonderful memories you gave us. May you Rest In Peace. Mark, thank you for putting this up, very well done documentary.
Fabulous documentary Mark, you really should post more of this genre, and more often. Amazing and sad of how many big television stars loved by millions in this country get so mercilessly thrown on the scrap heap and forgotten. Richard O'Sullivan is another one.
Thankyou Lexi! Richard O Sullivan would be a really good one to do!!
How about Lewis Collins!?
@@MarkMahoney A good choice too, very much a man's man ala Sean Connery, I believe he even screen-tested for the role of James Bond.
Richard O'Sullivan became ill. I believe he had a stroke and put himself in a care home.
I don’t see Richard O’Sullivan as thrown on the scrap heap. He had a difficult patch transitioning from child to adult actor but eventually settled into a nice niche in sit com. Sadly a stroke put an end to his acting career but he lives happily in actors retirement home not mercilessly forgotten and thrown away.
Remember going to the pictures to see Here We Go Round The Mulberry Bush. Thank you for making this documentary about Barry Evans. 🇬🇧
👍👍
Hey..... now this is just bloody heartbroken. He was a brilliant actor. Can't believe he was left in such a mystery. RIP. And thank you for your moments of humor. You will be missed. There will never be another like you. 😔☹️
Such a talent lost, Mind your language an absolutely brilliant comedy, such a sad life if he had survived he would be 81 now so RIP my friend you are not forgotten.
We used to love him as children watching Mind your language. We were far away from UK. He made our childhood happy. Now only I got to know his sad ending.
RIP Barry
I knew him when he was taxi driving when I worked at a petrol station in Hinckley he used to come in and fill up, lovely guy, sad what happened to him Rip Barry x
That's really interesting grace
What a sad story. I remember him. Brilliant actor and should have had much more success.
I have fond memories of Barry Evans and those very 70's shows he was in. Miss those times. Cheers from NZ.
so sad to think the pleasure he gave people over the years and died without most people noticing.r.i.p barry.
Had a huge crush on him back in the day, I was surprised and saddened that he was abandoned by his mother. Rip Barry Evans
Tastefully and sensitively handled. A lovely (if sad) retrospective. I always thought Barry was capable of great things. If only casting directors could’ve seen past his boy-next-door looks, he would have been a big name. Still, at least we have a legacy of entertaining material which showcases his talents. Thanks for the great upload! 🙂👍
😊👍 thankyou! And your welcome!
Thank you for the story about actor Barry...so sad to hear his life towards the end was tragic! I'm from S'pore...we all love watching Mind your language comedy program and it has many fans here and I do watch the reruns...such a brilliant show and he was good looking and a cute teacher and he did his part well...now I wonder why couldn't he get to further his acting on TV and had to drive a taxi! 😕
He had a big smile but i can see his eyes were sad, storms raged in that soul, i can see 😔
I had such a crush on him when I was in secondary school.he was gorgeous ❤️
A great piece of work, thank you. I remember Mind your language too and in fact, I'm an EFL teacher now, I try to channel Barry sometimes. A great loss.
Wonderful!
His ending was dreadful, no doubt about it, but in the 70s Barry was very famous in the UK, especially with the dr series, he had women throwing themselves at him, and had a lovely relationship with Judy Geeson, also he was on £500 a week, which in the 70s was serious money. The 70s were good times for him, with brilliant roles, and he had better luck than many, but died too young. Hope he rests in peace.
Barry was gay John In the diaries that were found after his death it emerged he led a very sordid private life with young men
Doctor in the House. Loved it .Great cast.
Loved him in Mind Your Language. He had a tragic life and a tragic ending. He was a charming, shy and sexy man. A great actor.
Omg I remember this guy when I was growing up in the 70s it’s so sad to here what happened to him , thanks this was interesting 🧐👏👏🏴🏴
Rest in peace Barry evans. You brought life to the tv show 'mind your language'
So sad to watch this. You will always be remembered Barry Evans ❤
Very sad he was a good looking fella too, RIP Barry. Thank you for remembering him.
This is so tragic. He was a constant face on TV when I was growing up. RIP you great man.
How very sad, I fell in love with him at a very young age watching his tv shows. You never think that something so sad could happen to a talented actor RIP Barry.🙏💙
What a sad tale. I remember Barry well on TV. A tragic end for him.
A very likeable, charming and fondly remembered actor. I remember the Doctor in the House series very well from my childhood. Mind Your Language is very funny and is popular in countries like India but it is considered politically incorrect today and there’s zero chance of it being repeated. That’s very sad as it was probably his biggest success. For a long time he did make a lot of his life and was very successful, it’s sad it started so unfairly and ended so tragically.
So, so sad. Had a crush on him when younger, think a lot females did. Lovely looking & great actor. It always seems more sad when someone ends up/dies like this when they have brought much happiness/joy to others. RIP
All that glitter isn't gold, this story is the same for many actors
Oh how sad. Thank you for posting these updates of actors we all loved.
I was in a shop on Sapcote Road in Burbage by the till by the door one summer night about 1996 and he came in the shop ...the night before I had watched Adventures of a taxi driver.
I had to double take to realise it was Barry Evans in front of me who was the brilliant star in the film from the night before. As he left I caught up with him said I really enjoyed the film and would be nice to see you back on TV. He said I would love to be ...but it was up to me mate.
I saw him a few times in Hinckley and Burbage and he always waved when I acknowledged him. When he died there were many many rumours around Hinckley with people my age on what happened that night and how he died...but as we know the truth always comes out if there are enough people involved.
What were the rumours about how he died ?
In my own opinion , I think it was foul play 😢
Thank you for this Mark. I can't recall much news coverage when he passed. So sad. Thanks again.
I’m too young to remember a lot of his roles, but I do remember MInd your Language. I moved to the US in the early 80’s so a lot British actors deaths weren’t reported here. Sad ending, but nice they put a blue placque on his old home. Acting is a hard business even if you’re very successful at some stages.
Watch "Here We Go Round The Mulberry Bush". Very funny and a brilliant soundtrack (if you love 60's music that is).
I was searching around for this. Thanks for the upload. Yes indeed this was really heartbreaking. A man such talented wasted his career. Rest in peace Barry.
Thanks for doing this. Definitely an underrated actor, very charismatic. Sad he died in such tragic circumstances.
I thought he was sooo cute! All this nostalgia makes me feel old, oh well! Thanks for the memories.♥️
Mind your language was a great unique comedy series. Thanks Mark for this documentary. You have a great voice for documentaries and should do more of these.
I know I'm not everyones cup of tea but thanks!! :)
He was such a nice kind and talented actor I still can't forget that episode where he said I was left at the foot steps of an orphanage and hence the name Jeremy for the sitcom but just such a sad thing that people go unappreciated with such huge persona's to be remembered when they're gone alone and depressed and without appreciation, May your soul rest in peace Barry Evans you were an icon of our childhood we will remember till we die
@Mark Mahoney - I am so pleased this popped up in my recommended list. As a young teenager, I looked forward every week to Doctor in the House and Doctor at Large. I always wondered what happened to Barry Evans. I think Richard O’Sullivan went on to take over more of a lead role in the Doctor sit-coms but one could never use Google in those days to find out where Barry had gone. Without doubt, he was everyone’s favourite. How sad that he turned down such a wonderful income to stay with the show and then tragically end up impoverished and out of work. So very sad. I used to live in Swiss Cottage but never spotted his blue plaque in Buckland Crescent. Rest in peace Barry. You are never forgotten, not in my house. Regards from Northern Ireland. ☘️
An amazing video. Thank you.
Poor Barry. We all loved him but he didn’t seem to know it. He was a superb comic actor with some of the best timing I have ever seen on British television (right up there with Ronnie Barker or early Hancock). Even surrounded by our best comic actors in the Doctor series, he stood out. But coming from the most humble of beginnings he never had any resources to fall back on. And he made that classic mistake (one I have made myself and which still makes me cringe over twenty years later) of turning down an engagement renewal. Producers never forget or forgive that. The last thing they want is a leading character not coming back in a series. Not only does it harm the brand but it changes the dynamics and has to be explained away to the audience (who may not forgive the loss of a favourite charter).
😢😢Oh dear! It's very sad and hard to hear that, I can't understand how his life was like that and he could make us happy it's too merciless 😢😢
G'day.
Thanks for doing this. I have fond memories of his wonderful appearances on TV and I appreciate you making this in the way you have.
This was so nicely done, thank you for sharing. RIP Barry 😢
🙂
A really well put together show - really enjoyed this video. I used to love the Mind Your Language sitcom, remember laughing so much at all the characters, never knew what happened to Barry's acting career. RIP Barry!
