I've been here exactly. Thought I was gonna be a dad, and then he wasn't my son. Really appreciate the fact that he can sing about his heartbreak every concert.
I’ve been struggling to get on board with this new direction they have gone. But then it hit me. This is where his heart went. This is what came out when he started writing. The hardest part of songwriting is “being you.” They did that. Yeah, I love the loud guitar stuff they have done, but it’s still there. And every listen I get down with this album even more. Don’t criticize an artist for not doing what you wanted them to do. Respect them for putting on tape whatever comes out when they start writing.
Sometimes it's hard to accept change in a band/artist when you loved them a certain way but creativity is a key element in being a musician, the ability to change and yet remain the same. For example i think Eminems change was shit. Nickleback was a weird change. Shine down...so different but still great...etc Especially Steven Tyler... His 80s songs vs the 90s...still him but different approach. It may seem unfortunate but bands do have to switch styles over the years or die as a band. Each decade brings a "new" or old style back and if it's the trend that's where the moneys at.
Great artists change their style, they get bored with what they are doing. You can't tell the difference between Nickelback's recent album with their first 15 years ago, but the Beatles went from singing about holding hands to LSD inspired music in 5 years.
People are really hard to please. Metallica got shit for changing their style. Rise Against got shit for sounding the same. Personally I prefer the rock sound, but this song is still a good jam.
I love changes in art and the new songs are great... just don't get the skin color stuff... we all carry a lot of mixed genes... Where did I go wrong ?
It's the same thing that happened to Linkin Park and even Metallica at some point. They all get older, they grow and experience different life stages. They come into contact with more musicians and experiment with more genres. If they are a truly creative spirit, there is nothing but growth and change with their Music and even with Artist. You are constantly changing.
You're right, they are absolutely amazing when they do live stuff. Have you had a chance to go to one of their shows yet? I saw them back in December '17 in Baltimore MD, incredible show, I didn't want it to end lol
I don't think i can listen to this song too much. It brings so much emotion to me and it's embarrassing as man. But just the way they put "Oh God" in the song speaks to me more than just what the lyrical content was supposed to mean. "Oh God" can be said of a great many things in this life. And I've been wanting to cry hard for along time b/c of it. This song gives me that outlet finally.
that last drawn out ...ohhh goddd.... just takes you deep into the "why" of pain. I've been there and i'm glad someone else feels it as deep as i did/do. He expressed it in a lyric and music. Priceless therapy.
such a great song!! so much emotion, this is why I love rock/alternative or what description you choose for Highlyu Suspect. Rock has emotion and it connects on an emotionaly level. Other music does too it's that rock can make you think about life and get philosophical. I love the rock genre for that reason, country is probably second and in my own book, older rap and a select few new rappers today can get lyrically deep.
Yeah the song remind me of the sadness I've been through it will make you turn direction sometimes people don't like that but it's what makes you a better you can't wait till 21st November I finally get to hear these badass Tunes live
liking a certain song or sound isn’t a bad thing. I wouldn’t want people to like a record I made just because I made it, I would hope they like the actual music.
@@chinapat6708 yes🥰❤️🔥 May 24th at Brady Theater. Highly Suspect is my all time fave. They are amazing live!! Johnny gets the crowd to interact a lot. My daughter, husband and I got to meet Matt Kofos (the guitarist) at the merch stand when no one else was around after Papa Roach went on stage. Matt was SOO humble and nice! He knelt down and talked to My 8yr old about them being her first concert and her fave H.S. songs! He even apologized for them not playing her favorite song. Their bodyguard took pics for us. It was amazing. She cried she was so freakin happy!!! Please go to the next show you can of theirs. Tickets were super affordable to!! *Sorry so long 😅🤓
@@huhklam23 that's awesome. I'm a bit jealous. I got to see them once in Baltimore MD back in December of '17, incredible show. Hoping to see them there again next April. Thanks for sharing this video!
I love this song but, AMEN TO THAT!!! Rock is not "rock" anymore! Why it's so hard to listen to music anymore bc although I love all the old rock and metal, it gets tired of listening to sometimes when you have nothing new that's good to play in between!
for people here in the comments who act so disappointed with their change of style... yall should realize that this path helps them discover different genres and attract more people to their material. this was a huge leap of faith for them and its what they choose to go to. a band does not exist because of the followers but of the members themselves. if yall gonna hate their new material... then u werent their fan at all. get through with it. its both beneficial for their musical profession and marketing strategies aswell... Edit. think about it. their band could be known to have a wide array of genres across their music career. though they didnt stick with their guns... they surely know when to pick up a sword, u know what im saying? *LEARN TO GENRE HOP PEOPLE*
Everyone's always complaining this is a pop song, and of course who cares if it is but to be honest I feel this is more of a pop rock song. Even though there's no guitar this isn't even the poppiest song on the album, and it's not even a bad thing if it was cause rock, pop, rap, whatever these guys do they usually do it pretty damn well
Swear to go we are going to find out he has arthritis and can’t play guitar like he used too. Being able to play that well and choosing not to is just weird.
I really hope he doesn't have arthritis or something keeping him from playing. He's got too many good years ahead of him and it would be a tragedy if he couldn't play for some reason.
I miss his old music man. They used to be my absolute favorite and always thought of him as a tenors Hendrix. I don’t know what this new shit is. I miss the old him
Gavin Terminie He has music from years ago, before HS got so popular, where he’s rapping and he’s really great at it and it seems like he really enjoys both rap and rock so I’m pretty sure he is still “the old him”
I see all these comments about "style change" and it blows my mind. They never changed their style, you just put them in a genre prison and they broke free. Fools.
I was really looking forward to this album. It’s a huge departure from the rock I was hoping for. They put on a good show ,saw them in Denver. I was really hoping for some angry but melodic rock songs. Unfortunately it’s a pop album. They are still one of my favorite new band but the new album is super poppy
Its good that bands can branch out and do different shit rather than just playing the same shit for their entire career like acdc or iron maiden. Alice chains are my favourite band and look how much shit they have dipped their toes in. Variety in life is a good thing.
