  • Japanese lacquer studio “lacquer artist HYOETSU” has been in business for over 100 years.
The main character this time is KEIGO MIKI, a Japanese lacquer artist who has been attracting attention for his original works that transcend the conventional framework of Japanese lacquer .
“lacquer artist HYOUETSU” has inherited the kawari-nuri techniques such as “KAGOME-NURI”, which expresses the atmosphere of weaving thin bamboo, for four generations.
A “lacquer artist” is a craftsman who specializes in applying Japanese lacquer, but MIKI believes that it is important to prepare the base before applying Japanese lacquer.
"SABIURUSHI" is made by kneading soil powder and Japanese lacquer.
Applying a traditional technique called "KIRISABI," which uses this as a base to express patterns in three dimensions, MIKI created the "Wave Series."
MIKI continues to challenge new expressions of Japanese lacquer while inheriting the techniques of "HYOETSU" that have been passed down for more than 100 years.
We will introduce “Kyoto” through artists, craftsmen, traditional performing arts successors, chefs, etc. who are active in Kyoto.
