Glenn Gould had that uncanny ability to give ONE performance above all others that remains in people's memories for a lifetime, and now, thanx to CZcams, they can be experienced all over again! I highly recommend the CBC documentary about Glenn's concert tour of Russia, "Russian Journey" and see how just ONE visit can create a legend!

I’ve been listening to this recording for 20 years and not only has my adoration for his interpretation not waned, but I still discover new things that I’ve never heard before. In addition, I still can not find another artist’s recording of this work that moves me the same way. I am aware of an earlier recording of this by Gould…..which is equally amazing. Would anyone happen to know if there are any more recordings of this piece? Many thanks!
A genius masterfullly playing and enriching our earthly existences. A rare gem only to be found in the most inaccessible of places. Unearthed and displayed on YT to be seen by those who search or who are lucky passer bys.
I generally don't care for Bach on piano, there's a irreconcilable distance from the composer. But this young genius pours out a towering performance that completely bridges the gap. Every note infused, it's enough to make a baroque performer weep.
No puedo entender que haya personas que no le guste esto , se juntaron dos de los mejores interpretes , Gould y Bernstein . Eran las glorias de una época , cuando la música era música .
Not sure if you've found it yet, but someone uploaded it here. czcams.com/video/9Nx09pigZRI/video.html At least I believe this is what you are looking for, the full session with Bernstein's excellent commentary.
This is such an immaculate interpretation on the concerto. The best I've ever heard. He played this as if it was a spiritual communion with Bach. He took his time but every notes has a nuance. Every gestures was ritualized (Gould was a performer with a sense of showmanship. He even used just one hand for the cadenza to free the other to waive about and conjured up the magic - 05:10) This is even better from the one Gould played with the Canadian orchestra when he was younger. (and thank you for the pedal shot) I've been waiting for this for quite sometime. Ever since I saw the famous short clip (starting from 6:00). I knew someone has the complete footage. And now the waiting for the 2nd and 3rd movement begins.
+remsan03 And that "Zip Up" gesture at the end there by Gould is so epic, right? When other performer does it (the eccentric mannerism and foolish expressions), it repulses me. But when GG does it, somehow it's mind blowing.
Every movement of his body parts contributes to the making of his music. When I want Bach's music, I only think of Glenn Gould; his passionate playing takes me into his world, a world that is closest to Heaven.
Watch the entire program: Ford Presents: The Creative Performer. 1960. Bernstein presents, starring Glenn Gould, Eileen Farrell and Igor Stravinsky. Do a youtube search for Glenn Gould US television debut or just go directly to erp65 channel. You will love it. This is not spam.
Delightful to have had the opportunity to listen and to watch GG performed Bach concerto in D minor with such elegance and flawless technique. Awesome to see how spiritually elevated GG always was when performing Bach. It feels like he is engaged in a conversation with the Composer. L. Bernstein conducts beautifully! A historical clip to store in the musical archive! Thanks for uploading and sharing GG & L. B.; priceless treasure!
What truly remarkable performance... Along with fairly slow tempo (unlike most of the contemporary renditions) I am also pleased to be reminded of the slow trills - harpsichord-style. Just wish there would be the rest of the concerto here as well - 2nd and 3rd movements too
thank you for uploading a video that should be like Bach's music: accesible and free to all beings who are able to apreciate it, like a glass of water to the body. I enjoy very much this interpretation
Prodigious performance displaying what countless hours of perfect practise can occasionally produce for our listening and visual pleasure. Dieu or The Generator would no doubt be pleased with this tiny fragment of its creation. Sadly, too rare!
The original tune of this harpsichord concerto in D Minor is a certain Violin Concerto. Nobody knows whether Bach wrote it. Some Bach researcher considers that it might be written by other Italian composer. But, Bach had remade or arranged those violin or oboe concertos to harpsichord concerto. After all, his harpsichord concertos were the result of arrangement. He frequently did such behaviors. It might be a habit in baroque era. Incidentally, Gould uses grand piano on behalf of harpsichord. I think that it is a logical ,clever choice. Thanks to the piano, he can correspond such large orchestra. Rich and clear piano sound, Gould completely succeeded in this performance, And he had brought great additional value into it.
Thank you Terry Li. We are transmitting this carefully among those who care. We are grateful to you, very very thankful and gratefui to you. Thank you so much.
+twolegsnotail Do you get worried some of the big companies are going to take these videos down off YT? For instance, it's getting hard to find a good copy of the Goldberg Variations video. I hope there are some fans who have copied them just in case. My GG project, for what it is worth, would not have been possible without these videos on YT. But there might be others out there who will contribute more, thanks to these resources.
In this performance Glenn Gould is totally in another world.
I can't get enough of the part around the 7:00 mark where the orchestra stops and Gould is in a sort of trance
Полный восторг¡!!!!!! Спасибо
... my world. 👌
You can see the passion. He feels every note.
Great performance... Gould and Bach were made for each other.
Died so young but left us this wonderful music
I've been listening to Glenn Gould for years - he never ceases to astonish me.
Гениальность не нуждается в комментариях.
Здесь три ГЕНИЯ -Бах,Бернстайн и Гленн Гульд.
Two geniuses on the same stage together! How incredible! Glad it was recorded for posterity.
Three! You forgot about main: Bach.

Thank you for the information on the Russia tour.
This made me fall in love with Mr.Gould's style...and even deeper in love with J.S. Bach.
Never heard Bach sound so musical and expressive. Have to say Gould takes Bach to a whole other level of divine interpretation.

What a treasure this is, with close-ups of Gould's beautiful hands.
...and close-ups of his feet!
@@mikematics Not like you’ll see them doing much feet action of course, Gould hated pedal.
He is so good.
I have listen to other people play but I always come back to listen to Glenn.

I have often wondered if Glen Gould ever performed with Leonard Bernstein and here it is! What a beautiful performance!
This isn't the only time they performed together.
They did a Brahms piece once, it was quite controversial.
Brilliant. Love the camera going in at 7:20 as Gould does his solo.
