    The most difficult part of the ridge cap installation is preparing the end of the ridge cap so it fits nicely with the gable trim. This video will show in detail how to do this.
    It is not intended for installation of standing seam panels.
    So, you are thinking about purchasing a metal roof and would like to install it yourself. Well let us be the first to congratulate you. But, your journey won’t come pain free. From our 25 years of experience, we’ve seen that installing the trim is the hardest part of the job. Homeowners like yourself always ask us “How do you install the ridge cap?”
    A metal roofing ridge cap is the trim that’s installed along the peak of the roof. The point at the top of the roof where both slopes meet up is known as the peak or ridge. Before we dive into the specifics of how to install a metal roofing ridge cap, here are some notes to keep in mind:
    A ridge cap is typically the last piece of trim that will be installed. Before installing the ridge cap, make sure that the eave trim and gable trim are installed.
    The standard lengths for ridge cap are ten feet to twelve feet long.
    If you are overlapping ridge cap have a 6 inch overlap.
    The most common width of a ridge cap is 7”X7” or 10”X10” and it’s available with or without hems.
    Phase 1: Preparing To Install Ridge Cap
    Roofs aren’t always square. When you are installing the roofing panels you want to keep the eave or low side of the roof nice and flush. You don’t want the metal roofing going in and out with each sheet sticking out further than the previous sheet. This makes the roof look sloppy and unfinished.
    We recommend a 2” gap between the metal roofing sheets at the peak of the roof. This will allow you to move the sheeting up or down the roof. The purpose of this is to keep the roofing panels at the lower eave straight and flush. If the metal roofing is too long the excess roofing can be moved to the top of the ridge and the panels at the eave will appear straight.

    When screwing down the ridge cap, do you screw through the hem of the cap edge or farther up toward the peak?

    • @WesternStatesMetalRoofing
      @WesternStatesMetalRoofing  Před 3 lety +1

      The screws will be 1/2"-1" from the edge of the ridge cap and near the hem. They will penetrate the ridge cap AND the foam closures. At 3:04 of the video it shows you where the foam closures go. The screw will be located through the ridge and at the center of the foam.

    A very informative video. Excellent. But, can you say what type of foam is used. Appreciate this information. Thank you.

      Champ, it depends on what panel you're using. You can find all of the foam closures at the link below. We can ship everything UPS ground inexpensively.

    Can this be used where all the hips and rafters come to a peak, on a gazebo.

    • @WesternStatesMetalRoofing
      @WesternStatesMetalRoofing  Před 3 lety

      Johnny, if you have a roof with two sides/slopes it will be a ridge cap. If it's a single sided slope (One high eave) it will be a peak flashing. There are videos for all of these conditions on the channel. Good luck with your installation.

    How do you bend the ridge cap to match the slope ?

    • @paulrubio7079
      @paulrubio7079 Před rokem

      You purchase it already bent to the correct slope of the roof. All trim is custom made on a job by job basis.

    The video would probably be ok if it wasn’t for the cheesy club music. You have to wonder about the audience of this video. Most do it yourself types don’t enjoy listening to this sort of stuff. A simple video without the music would be great

      Appreciate the feedback and the current videos do not have the music in the background. I hope the video helped you.
