Was listening to Earth, Wind & Fire the other day and of course I have to jam out “Let’s Groove Tonight”. I was cheeky and used 2 Vocoders - the Roland VP-330 and DigiTech Talker. 🎹🕺🤖

Is the sound of the singing your actual voice being modified, or the synthesizer recreating the voice? In other words, could you just play the vocals through the synthesizer and not use the mic? Forgive me for asking the technical background question.
