- Test 4k HDR with the Pocket 2 with DaVinci Resolve 17
Many owners are disappointed with the HDR update of the Pocket 2. In the properties of the recorded video, DE = None, Type = HDR, HQ = High, Mode = P. So HDR after all? Unfortunately, no.
If you analyze the video with MediaInfo, it looks very different. The video is an MPEG-4 file with the color space BT.709 and still in 2.7K. The disappointment is great. Many also bought the Pocket 2 because of HDR. So what to do.
A stopgap solution for everyone who wants to see their video in HDR with their Pocket 2 is to record the next video in 4k D-CLike. The flat profile is not an HLG 2020 but you can also try to create an HDR project in DaVinci Resolve 17 or another HDR-capable editing program.
I'm looking forward to your comments.

Pretty sweet footage. Everything is in focus. :) Nice Gimble...!
I am glad if you liked it. The video should be a suggestion for everyone who bought the Pocket 2 for the HDR promised by DJI and are now disappointed.
I mostly use the Sony AX700 like you do and I am very satisfied with it.
Many greetings from Germany ebs
Incredible Work ✌️
Thanks for your comment. You too have very good videos on your channel. Good luck on CZcams.
Greetings from snowy Germany ebs.
Great footage 👍 liked & subscribed, thanks for sharing, grüße Michael
Nice great video Paul. Maybe if you make video tutorial how make hdr from dji pocket 2 with Davinci Resolve will be nice. Thanks
It's not that bad. Record in Cine-D and then edit like HDR. An HDR reference monitor is important.
It is amazing how these cameras now a days handle shade and sun. Years ago it was terrible, dven film had a problem...:)
After you have been using it a while (I supposed) and been editing it on Resolve 17 for a while now, how do you like the Pocket 2's video quality? Also, is it really a 10-bit camera? GoPro Hero8 is only 8-bit, per their official info.
Hello Paul, the Pocket 2 only has 8-bit as you correctly determined and cannot do real HDR either. Just wanted to show how you can get very good results with proper processing in the post. The video was published on CZcams with HDR in 10-bit, even if it was only 8-bit, otherwise CZcams would not play the video in HDR.
@@ebs4411 thanks for your explanation. Speaking of CZcams, they have a weird way of compressing videos. My clips shot on GoPro usually seem softer, sometimes with video noise even. My other clips by Sony or Canon cameras don't seem to have that issue at all...
The videos are compressed with h256. The videos are slightly sharpened. Artifacts arise when compressing. What program do you use to edit your videos?
@@ebs4411 I too am using DaVinci Resolve 17, but the free version, to edit my videos. Like I said, I don't really have much of any issue with clips shot by my Sony or Canon but only the GoPro Hero 8.... even with the supposedly correct bit depth, codec and resolution settings and all.
It is possible that you have a lot of movement in the video when you are recording with the GoPro. Artifacts can then easily arise during processing.
Liebe Grüße zurück an Euch.

nice. i just got a pocket 2 and have done a few Marty of Marty Sender You Tube. your stuff looks good
Hello Marty, thank you very much for your comment.
Just saw your videos with Pocket 2. It turned out great. I already had the Osmo Pocket and was always happy with the Pocket as a second camera.
@@ebs4411 hey i'm a gh5 shooter, used to quality video...but the Pocket 2 comes close especially if you enhance it in post. This could be an A camera for You Tube videos. no question. it aint perfect but for the price? i'm generally happy but I'll bet when they come up with a Pocket 3, it will blow a hole in the regular camera market. thanks for stopping by. your stuff looks great. keep shooting.
@@ebs4411 i'm now reluctant to get firmware update. some complaining it messes up the gimbal function and also eliminates 4k 60, and as you say the HDR ain't much to speak about......making the 3.5 an earphone, and the gimbal lock are good upgrades, but i'm worried it will mess up the camera. what you think?
honestly the 10 bit over the 8 in camera just doesnt impress me. I get the same result in 8 bit, by just adding some vibrancy in post. does the same thing.
I did the last update and didn't see any deterioration.
First of all, you hv done an amazing job with DJI pocket 2 footage And HDR looks similar to Iphone 12 tbh. Just wondering if this conversion can be done on Final cut ?
Should also work with Final Cut. The program can also create HDR. I work on Windows with Edius X and DaVinci Resolve 17 and unfortunately don't know Final Cut.
@@ebs4411 ok so I tried in Final cut and it worked like a charm, the whole footage was transformed ! Also how can DJI sell there HDR format as a true HDR format, when its Rec 709 and 8 bit. This is misinformation 🙄
I'm glad if it helped you. It's way better than DJI's solution. 🙂🙋
@@MostlyWalking exactly

@@ebs4411 pigeon, pigeon...
Tourterelle des bois en fait. 😉
Merci pour la visite.
@@ebs4411 Aie aie ! DJI ne fait pas les choses correctement. HDR ou HLG, c'est du REC 2020, pas du 709.
Maravilloso desde Argentina 👌 4 de febrero de 2021

Hello! I need your help. When i try to edit the videos on DaVinci Resolve 17 it is slow and has a delay. I tried to fix it and it won't work!! Can you please help me!
I work with DaVinci Resolve Studio 17. It uses the graphics card a lot. The free version can't.
@@ebs4411 So I need to upgrade graphics card or get the studio version?
The graphics card of NVIDIA GTX 1060 and higher is integrated by Davinci Resolve Studio for editing the videos. In the free version DaVinci Resove the graphics cards are not used. www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/davinciresolve/
Is there any cheapish video camera that does real 4K HDR video? Perhaps people expecting more from the Pocket 2 HDR were being a bit optimistic? The Fimi Palm 2 HDR seems to be more obvious in use than the Pocket 2 HDR (and it's 4K30) but I suspect it's no more 'real' - just some kind of processing to identify dark portions of each frame and up the ISO for those areas. So the Palm 2 HDR does lighten dark areas without blowing highlights, but it can get quite noisy. I guess the only way to do proper HDR video is to do it properly - and expensively.
Thanks for your comment. I agree with you on all points.
It's like upscaling 4K to 8K and tell everyone it is 8K camera. This guy completely don't understand what he doing.
You must export the video in 10-bit format for CZcams to recognize it as HDR. If you knew anything about the subject, you would know this.
correct the title, its not 10 bit
The camera cannot do 10 bit. But the video has to be uploaded to CZcams in 10 bits. Otherwise no HDR can be displayed.
I bought one for myself. I have a video on my channel.
Your videos turned out very well. Are you satisfied with the camera?
You are aware that the Pocket 2 only records 8 depth yes. Where do you get the other two bits from. 😂😂😂
It must be processed and exported with 10-bit in the editing program, otherwise it will not be recognized on the television set. But you should know that. 😂🙋
@@ebs4411 You do know that’s complete and utter garbage/rubbish right?
But the Pocket 2's DJI HDR 8bit BT.709 is no better. Watch the video on the TV. What type of camera are you using for your HDR videos? Should be another option for everyone who bought the Pocket 2 because of HDR. Do you have a better solution?
