    “Would” count: 84
    Interesting! I get the impression that Huron Blackheart could never really make up his mind about his preferred style of legion command and governance. He kicks off by recognising that you can’t operate a colossal and terrifying army without superb logistics, manufacturing, economy, prosperity, all that good stuff, so he loudly emulates the current champion of these things, Ultramar, and perhaps styles himself as a second Guilliman.
    Then the Badab War kicks off. I might have missed the exact point Huron’s lads fall to Chaos, but was it after the war started? They kick off as regular ol’ Renegade forces but not Chaos-aligned, so they can still call in favours from brother Astartes chapters.
    Then they fall, and then they get Chaos-tainted, and now you’ve got anarchic, clumsy Chaos warbands attempting to operate Huron’s already-built colossal logistics chains and ginormous armaments stockpiles. Vastly more powerful and dangerous. Geez, no wonder they had so many problems with hubris.
    I wouldn’t be surprised if Huron had in some ways become a prisoner of his own Red Corsairs legion. You get this a lot in various protest movements and subcultures. Happened last year in my country, New Zealand, with a protest over vaccine mandates. A charismatic and/or skillful founder might champion a fringe political cause like this with unusual passion, and win the admiration of much of mainstream culture. But this attracts nutjobs. The anti-vaccine protest outside NZ’s parliament buildings started as an organised event over a single day, managed with skill. This attracted a few thousand antivaxxer lunatics, who turned the single protest into three hundred feuding micro-protests, with zero leadership or organisation. They trashed the place. Much of central Wellington got blocked off and shut down. One day became three weeks. I went jogging through it at one point, just from morbid fascination. It was like being inside every conspiracy theory. I’ve sever seen so much paranoia or so many signs. After three weeks of mayhem and damage, the police formed a massive cordon line around the entire thing, let anyone exit but no-one enter, then finally strangled the protest over the next day.
    Similar phenomenon here? I’d imagine that if someone like Huron had been mustering Legion-strength forces for decades, and an army that mighty then joined Chaos, then this would attract old-style, anarchic Chaos cultists and warbands to it like rotting moths to a flame. Enough of them could well overwhelm Huron’s original culture and intentions, but him attempting to put them in their place would be seen by all as an attack on the ways of Chaos itself, the Red Corsairs would shatter and disband, and Huron loses even that power. He has no choice but to grit his teeth and let their unearned hubris tarnish his magnificent war economy.
    Though who knows. I just speculated the whole lot. But it’s an interesting line of thought, right?

    ‘We live and die for Huron Blackheart!’ shouted Garreon. As the gathered officers of the Red Corsairs raised their fists and shouted ‘Aye!’, Captain Rotaka shouted as loud as any of them. For Huron Blackheart they lived, and for Huron Blackheart they waited. The lord of the Red Corsairs had gathered his commanders for one last feast before the invasion, to remind them of who they served, and the depth of his wrath should they fail him...
    The Red Corsairs did not rest on the high ceremony beloved of the hated Imperium and the bloodless loyalists who retained faith in their damnable Corpse-Emperor. Instead there was simply service and reward: they gave unquestioning service to their master, and in return he rewarded them with a share of the spoils, as he saw fit...'
    '...The Red Corsairs are a warband: the strong core of it is made up of renegade Space Marines, both from the old Astral Claws and those of other Chapters who have traded their former colours in for Huron’s, but great numbers of mortal warriors have also flocked to his banner over the decades. Huron welcomes all those who will fight in his name; or at least those who do so well...'
    'Huron Blackheart is a wreck of a being, held together by spite and sorcery and mechanical ingenuity, and his movements no longer hold the same speed that they once did, but that does not mean he is any less deadly in combat. For all that his weapons are hardly precision tools, his strikes are placed with the care of centuries of experience, his steps are guided by the swirling awareness of the warp, and his strength is as ferocious as it ever was...'
    '...Once, Lugft Huron was the Chapter Master of the Astral Claws. Once, he was a towering Space Marine warrior, the galaxy’s image of nobility and righteousness: at least, to those parts of the galaxy that cowered behind the shield his warriors made from their bodies, and their guns, and their will. Once, Huron believed in the Imperium, and in the Emperor, and in his Chapter’s duties: at least in his own way. But in the Imperium there is little tolerance for any way other than that which the Imperium itself dictates. The tool that does not completely fit its role is eliminated; and if, like Lugft Huron, the tool is too tough and too stubborn to be properly eliminated, it is cast out. The problem with that, of course, is that those who are cast out can come back. And when they do, their bodies and their guns and their will are no longer a shield, but a sword aimed for the heart...'

    My only complaint of the Red Corsairs, is the fact that they are nearly at legion strength, if not already there. This is tens of thousands of space marines, if not a hundred thousand or more. How did they reach that strength in a mere 70 years or so? The Badab War was fought between 901.M41 and 913.M41, and they were at legion strength in 999.M41. Everything else I love about them, just the numbers dont add up, even more than usual. If the warband were a millennia or two old, I could see it, but 70 years? BS

      If so, it makes sense when it comes to finding people with potential of becoming a space marines, what doesn’t add up is the gene seed being mutated so badly and yet having tons of space marines in just 70 years , perhaps they just keep stealing space marines like that of the blood ravens stealing artefacts.

    As someone who is just getting into 40k I thought the Red Corsairs were just edgier World Eaters, but you've completely enlightened me
    Thank you so very much, brother Remembrancer!

    Maybe someone could make a mod for rogue trader

    I built an army around Huron. Badass lore (which isn't uncommon in the 40k universe) and plays well on tabletop. May not seem like much at first glance but d3 infiltration is op, I would infiltrate a unit of terminators equiped with chain fists and take their land raider with them 😇

    Absolutely out of context here,but I always wondered.
    How do Chaos Space Marines compete with new generation of Primaris Loyalists?
    Arent Primaris supposed to wipe floor with "older models"?
    Is it the Chaos buff,combat experience due to CSM being around for a long time etc.?

    • @NF-nv3xw
      @NF-nv3xw Před 10 měsíci +2

      Well the Immaterium have a different time flow. With this much time in hand and Chaos corrupting everything they touches changing the very marine and his equipment from head to toe. So i like to think this Touch of Chaos gives them more oomph compared even to the eldar marines, erm i mean primaris marines.

    • @petrrozsival8554
      @petrrozsival8554 Před 10 měsíci

      @@NF-nv3xw so its actually the other way around and CSM kick Primaris' ass most of the time? Damn,I thought they were supposed to be reinforcements of sort,to finally turn the tide.
      But I guess chapter masters like Azrael,Logan,Kayvaan etc. will still smack groups of CSM around

    • @NF-nv3xw
      @NF-nv3xw Před 10 měsíci

      @@petrrozsival8554 Its supposed to do just that acording to lore but lore also tend to tip the balance to whoever are writing said books.
      Primaris are Guillimans Astartes new vision yes. But they are new thus lack experience. The thing is this new chapter in the Imperium was just a stopgap because GW cant make their minds on their plans for the setting, IE they fear another Age of Sigmar clusterfuck.
