It's finally time to upgrade my garage workshop.
Something I've been avoiding for some time now, just because I know once I start I won't be able to stop.
The main thing that I've been wanting to tackle is designing and 3D printing some drawer organisers so that I can finally get a handle on allllll of the fixings that I have laying around.
But first, to do that, I needed some new drawers - and why not couple them with a nice new workbench?
The containers worked exactly as I wanted to, and I'm already working on a bunch of extra, custom designs to suit a whole range of other items I plan to store in the drawers.
Let me know what you think!
Cabinets: Mechpro Blue (in Black finish) - MPTT9D-46IN
Benchtop: 2440mm x 960mm x 70 mm
Varnish: Feast Watson Clear Satin (approx 750ml used for ~4 complete coats of entire board).

It’s too late now, but I suggest making well rounded corners (3+ mm filets) on the inside bottom of the containers. Mine are square like yours and it is a real pain getting out small screws, nuts, etc. Having them rounded means you can slide the parts up the side to get them out.
Never too late mate, thanks for the tip. However I've actually put a radius on that inside chamfer there which is just under 3mm, you can kind of see it at around 8:50 . Works well for getting those small parts as you suggested
Nice build mate. Just subscribed.
Cheers from London 👍🏴🇬🇧
Thanks mate I appreciate it!
I love the project! Have you checked out the gridfinity project? Its very similar to your grid setup
Hey thanks mate. I have seen that, it makes a lot of sense I think in the modular sense, but considering how much I know I'll change my layout until I commit to something it wasn't worth the effort for me. I also didn't want to have the impressions on the underside of my trays for anything over the 50mm size (100mm long would have a divot in the centre for example) so that would require me cutting out sections of the grid for those trays (which I was originally planning on doing).
Are you going to make the 3d files available for download? Looks awesome!
Thanks mate! I don't usually sell/give away my designs digitally but I'll have a think about it. I will likely make the physical items available for purchase :)
You didn't like the GridFinity storage boxes?
I don't dislike them, I just like making my own things. I came to a similar conclusion with the modular boxes but there's a few things I've done differently that work better for me. I also have a bunch of new custom ones I'm working on and this way they'll all integrate as I want them to :)
never heard of gridfinity...?
I've heard of making things for yourself
