The REALITYis.......We are all living out the patterns of our parents, grandparents and beyond. You can’t overcome the dysfunction until you are able to see the patterns, compare them to healthy patterns.....and then pull yourself OFF THE MARKET...and fix the dysfunctional patterns within yourself. Once you have learned how to meet your own needs, manage your attachment issues and emotions with maturity, control your sexual desires, and learn how to stay in your lane and let a man...be the man in the relationship....then open yourself to the possibility if a relationship.

So by definition of this interview I have failed at my 23 year relationship because we're not married?
He's young he hasn't felt real pain yet real heartbreak the divorce rate is 50 + percent in this country.
and it was precisely all the pressure by society on me to marry that he didn't want to get married and I can't blame him.
Then my brother died and he carried his casket, then my father died he did the same, then my nephew died he was there, and when my sister got sick 8 years ago, terminal he took care of her five years, just so she could die at home she did 3 years ago. Now this magnificent man moved my mother (who discarded him) into our home so she doesn't go to a nursing home. Tell me again like my friends and mother did I should have a better man?? Better than what, I would have died without him literally!!!
All I can say is, you have an intuition in you that tells you get the fuck out, I did about 6 months before meeting my everything I was in a horrible place!!

Derrick has talked about this too. He acknowledges (over and over) that marriage isn’t for everyone. But that has to be an agreed upon value from the beginning. And that’s not Derricks personal values and not the audience he generally caters to. Congrats to you for having found a good man for you and making it last all these years.
Old comment, I know. But I assume this advice applies to people who *want* to get married. Doesn't necessarily apply to people who never had intentions of marrying. Which I know quite a few people who don't.

@C RD that applies more to women. A lot of their actions don't have consequences. In fact men get blamed for quite a of them. There is a standard for men. There's a huge industry teaching women how to hold men accountable. But more importantly heal from the damage caused by men. Who weren't held to that standard. There's very little of that out there doing this for me.
