My biggest doll mistake was sending my Bitty Baby to the AG doll hospital. I got that doll when I was around 2 or 3 and she was well loved. I was never into baby dolls much, but I really loved my Bitty Baby. Over the years she acquired some scuffs and scratches and when I was around 10, it was suggested that I send her off to the doll hospital to get her fixed up. I did not realize at the time that they did NOT just touch up the paint, but replaced the doll parts. So, I went to the AG store in the city and went to the hospital booth to fill out her paper work and everything. I remember questioning the decision as I was handing her over, but went ahead with it anyway. A few weeks later, my doll showed up. When I opened up that box, I was absolutely devastated. My original doll was gone forever and I don't think my heart will ever heal from that (she also now has the wrong face mold because some look pretty similar and I guess my father marked the wrong one on the sheet). I wasn't able to play with her after that and she still sits in storage with the other AG dolls that aren't on display. I feel like it sounds silly but losing that doll was truly such a heart breaking thing and a decade later I'm just as upset about it. My biggest doll regret as of now and probably ever.

mistake I made ..I traded a beautiful ooak antique doll sized fashion for a faceup from a well known faceup artist , then an International doll company loved the fashion so much they used it on their promotional materials and millions of people saw their company doll/photo in that dress and loved it ..my chance at being on the outskirts of near fame was gone because I traded it away trying to save money hahahaha.....this was about 10 years ago ,and I still miss that dress............yes some mistakes are haunting

I would have to say that one of my doll mistakes is believing my sister and mum when they kept telling me I was to old for dolls and kinda forced myself out of them when I was a kid, also is line with that there were so many doll lines I missed out on because of this, another thing I regret is letting my mum give away my baby born I had growing up to my niece seeing it again after it got given to her and how she had destroyed it was heartbreaking my baby born had texta all over her face and I used to take such great care of her

I once had two liv dolls and those two were my very first bjd dolls, unfortunately I wasn’t really into dolls back then so I just casually played with them until I got bored and sold them, it was only a few years later that I started liking bjd dolls and realized that my liv dolls were discontinued 😢😢.

  • @fridawarnemyr6025
    @fridawarnemyr6025 Před 3 lety +5

Biggest regret - Not indulging in dolls when they were available, and yes I definitely had the money back then. Now most of the dolls I want are discontinued and the ones that aren't (like a few Rainbow High dolls) have yet to become available where I live. Buying things on eBay isn't always super easy either, since the prices may be reasonable but then the shipping is twice that, if it's from the US and their "Europe only" filter doesn't always work. Luckily the people selling dolls in second hand e-stores where I live don't tend to sell as collectors, so sometimes I can find amazing finds here!
Btw, mildew is a type of mold.
Great tip to store things with silica! Had forgotten about that.

@@MunecasPoupeesDolls It's ridiculous. I've found several dolls that I want, in really nice condition too, only to find out that oh hey, the doll might be, say $20 dollars, but the shipping is $25. And like.... no. Just no. And combined shipments seem to not be much of thing either? Otherwise that would help, if I only had to pay one shipping fee, but no it's going to be $25 for every. single. doll.

When I was 8 years old I had this beautiful porcelain doll, my first one, and I played with her outside one day because the neighbouring girl really wanted to see her, and we lived in a small school bus so there wasn't really room to play inside, and because she got dirty I thought well, lets give her a bath. When I put her in the water all of her hair just started falling out and I was so scared that my mom would never get me another one that I threw it in the dumpster and I told her that I didn't know where it went. This makes me still feel dumb, sad, and guilty to think about, especally because my mother could have fixed her for me and she was my first porcelain doll and also because the woman that gave her to me died shortly after this😞

  • @DandisDen
    @DandisDen Před 3 lety +3

You were on the right track with Raggedy Ann. I would've put her in a pillow case, and did the delicate - cold/cold. As for fixing, her hair is yarn, so you could probably 'reroot' it with a darning needling. If you don't feel confident enough, going to a doll doc is probably best

My biggest dolly mistake was giving my childhood Samantha doll to my daughter who was way to young to have her. She really messed that doll up, and then to make matters worse instead of trying to fix her up...I gave her to goodwill 😞
2nd dolly mistake is that my mom made me a raggedy Ann, a really nice one too, and when I left home at 18 I didn’t take her with me and I never saw her again. We still don’t know what happened to that doll 😞

Oh I have so many 😅
    - when I cut off all my hair I thought it would be fun to reroot a doll with my own hair. But of course I picked my favorite childhood Barbie 🙄 she came out so gross and bobbleheaded I never touch her anymore. All your rerouting struggles really hit close to home.
    - I bought a Nellie doll for $40 on OfferUp, I thought I got such a steal but she ended up having fried hair and faded face paint. I still love her but I’m probably going to end up dumping more money into fixing her up than if I had just bought one in better condition with the full meet outfit.
    - my biggest regret ever is when my friend got rid of her dolls I was too shy to ask her for them. She had all the first chapter ever after high dolls 😭 and they all just got donated to the thrift store

My biggest doll mistake is a childhood one...sharing with my sister. I had been given a customized Magic Cabin Waldorf doll at the tail end of grade school and named her the most sentimental name Cecelia... Well, I had a younger sister who I adored, and one day I let her play with my doll and you can imagine my horror when I discovered my precious sister tried to put lip gloss on my precious doll. No matter what my mother tried we could not get it out. To this day Cecelia has a smudgey stain across her tiny, single stitch mouth. I think it's taken me 20 years to get over it.. I can now look at it and feel like it's a funny story and how my sister has attached herself to a doll I love so much in such a *permanent* way.

When my parents moved to another house, they asked me, if I wanted My childhood dolls and toys that were stored in the attic. I declined, so all got given away. My grandmother was a seamstress and had made a lot of doll clothes for me, I had even a matching dress with my favourite doll. I regret this still, that I have not thought to keep of not the dolls but the dresses.😞 Luckily my aunt saved one of the princess dresses my grandmother made me when I was 5 years old and I still treasure this one.

I used to collect funko pops, then I got a rambunctious kitten who, until I took them all down and put them in storage, used to bat them off bookshelves and use them as cat toys. (Broke several, I have a Mickey Mouse in several pieces) When he realized that doing that got my attention, he did it *purely* for attention by looking me in the eye as he did it.
I also have now two other cats who may or may not find them interesting. Even though he's a few years older, I plan on taking extra steps with my bjd dolls. I don't want to put them in plastic or plexiglass cases (It's too museum for me) but that's a worst case scenario.

This isn't a doll related mistake but... It still pains me to this day to tell this story.
My dad gave me a very beautiful jewelry box, which stayed in the family for at least 4 generations. What did I do with it ? I put it in a jar for a school project, thinking I'll be able to retrieve it later. Guess what, my teacher wouldn't give me the box back because the jar was lost or something.

I can attest that cats LOVE to chew on dolls and accessories, I have dolls that are now in storage at someone else's house ( kind of a slippery situation, not sure if I'm going to get them back now or not, but I'm praying that I will very soon 😢) while trying to get my ducks in a row and get a bigger place to display them, but one or two have little kitteh teeth marks on their hands where they have been chewed on, bc I didn't put them up at the time bc I never thought in a million years that that would happen. My biggest doll mistake was not protecting my first BJD adequately from the sun. She is a tan doll from Soom, and I had her facing a window. I would try to block the sunlight from hitting her when I noticed it, but she still got hit by direct sunlight pretty frequently. By the time I moved her away from the window, all the direct light she got had caused her face, hands, and the tops of her feet (areas unprotected by her clothes and shoes) to fade to a greenish color. Hopefully I can hide it with a face-up, but I regret not being more careful with her.

Your Raggedy Ann doll was probably stuffed with "excelsior" which is a grainy, grassy, horse hair feeling kind of stuffing. It is a yucky brown dry grass kind of color. I think that is what bled through your doll. If you want to try again I suggest that you undress her. Then very carefully open her up and remove the "stuffing". Toss out the stuffing. It may have mold spores or become kinda broke down and hard. You should then soak the doll in cool water with a good doll soap. DOLLSPART.COM has fantastic soap just for this kind of thing.
Follow package directions (I'm sorry as I type this I am in my sewing room). The sad part is your doll will have to be restuffed with new batting. But as she is a sentimental doll that's cool. The clothes are an easy repair just touch up the bad parts. Good luck.
PS: NEVER LEAVE YOUR DOLLS OF ANY KIND IN A STORAGE UNIT!! Actually, you were lucky.

I was away for the weekend and came back to her and books not only wet but molding. I still have my third Raggedy Ann. She's always out, though she doesn't get played with much. Maybe I'll make her a Halloween or Christmas outfit some day.
My worst mistake: I cut my big -- 32" -- Uneeda doll's hair when I was five or six. I do intend to reroot her some day. fwiw, I got her when I was two and since she was as tall as I was, I drug her around by her hair for years, so her hair was pretty thin on top even before I cut it. 8^)

I once left a bunch of rare Winx dolls behind at a flea market, including one Enchantix doll that they were asking 2,50 euros for and which is now worth at least 150 euros. I wanted to get all of them but ended up only picking two (one of which I later found at a thrift store as well so now I have two of those, can you believe it?!), partly because my sister told me I shouldn't get more. I still get salty over it, but I later found out my mom had actually wanted to buy all of them and simply couldn't because she didn't have the funds (I was too young to have my own money back then). My biggest doll regret is that when I was little I had a doll I named Emily and I think she was just a regular baby doll (I haven’t seen her in 20 years so I can’t remember but I’d recognize her if I saw her 🥺) but I LOVED her, she was my favorite. Anyway I can’t remember why but my brother was always taking her and since she was my favorite I didn’t like that and one time he tried to take her from my hands and I didn’t let go. He pulled on her and I was crying and hanging onto her arm and of course it came off… my parents came to stop the fighting and honestly I’m still mad about this, instead of yelling at him and telling him it was my doll they put her away in a closet to keep us from fighting. My mom always said she’d fix her every time I begged for her back but I’m guessing she didn’t know how cause I never saw my little Emily again no matter how much I begged for her. I would’ve even been happy to have her back one armed 😫 I guess I should’ve just let my brother take her and gotten her back later but I was 7 so I didn’t think of that.

My biggest dolly regret was something similar to one of yours. When I first got into the hobby I bought an Bobobie Ariel . I sold her and couldn't stop thinking about her. So only a couple of years ago I emailed Bobobie and they just did not answer ANY of my emails. I then emailed "Sun" at Resin Soul . He came through as he always did and i got my girl who I still have but I put her on an Impldoll faun body. LOVE her still. :)
I cant believe you have experienced Harrods. Isnt it something else? You need a FULL day there and maybe more to see everything. When I am there I get what I need or go see what I want to see.... And THEN... I go downstairs to the food hall. Did you get to go there when you were in Harrods? And BTW... You know that Harrods have always had a service to where they will ship their stuff to you wherever you are in the world. You STILL may be able to get them now or newer Harrod versions :)

Oh no those dolls were limited to 100 pieces, some Disney Limited Edition dolls sell for a lot and they're some that do just because of how limited they were. Harrods was definitely a very neat experience! I ate the most expensive (and delicious) ice cream sundae of my life there 😋

We have 3 cats.....they adore doll wigs and anything fur or wool Lol! They will steal doll wigs any chance they get. We have a faux fox fur tail that we used for my youngest daughters Halloween costume year before last and one of our cats adores it.....no matter where we put that tail, he will find it! I also do fiber arts and they will literally roll in my boxes of wool when they come in Lol! We have a few Barbies with chewed hands from the dogs, but luckily the dogs are easier to control than the cats...the felines definitely run the house!! I didn't realize you lived in the South, we do too...Alabama:)

Out of all the mistakes I’ve made the two I regret the most are
    1. not buying my own Cécile Rey Doll. (I share with my sister but I really want my own now)
    2. Not buying a Bonnie and Pearl doll while I was studying abroad in England and saw them in Harrods. Such a big regret! They were beautiful.

Some mistakes really do make us feel ill. Your Kirsten story reminded me of my Felicity doll. I got her for Christmas of 1999. She was the only one I ever got and I was surprised I even had one. My mom did splurge and got me her accessories and boxed book set. Felicity was the queen in my room. She her own space and I meticulously made sure that all her things were with her. For some reason, as a kid, I decided to put her coin in my childhood coin collection. I guess cuz this was like the closest thing I'd have to a coin from the 1700s. Then, I put her coral Necklace in my jewelry box to "keep it safe". At least, I guess that was my thought. When I moved out of my parents house, Felicity was definitely moving out with me. I was devastated to realize that her coin, necklace and hankie were all missing!!!. I scoured all my belongings and couldn't find them where I thought I had put them. To this day, I've never been able to find them. I wonder if my sisters might have pinched them when we were kids and lost them. LOL. Wouldn't surprise me. Anyway, I feel your pain. I replaced them, but it's not the same because I know they are not original. I kinda have that secret hope that they'll show up in my parents house somewhere, but probably not.

I can name that tune in two notes: PA - TIENCE. Goodness knows I have more than one character flaw, but my biggest is definitely a lack of patience. Whether it was collecting too quickly and haphazardly, meaning jumping all over the place without researching and formulating a real plan or budget, or selling a doll on the spur of the moment because a different doll caught my eye, a lack of patience was my dolly downfall. Of course, it didn't help in a lot of other areas of my life either!

I enjoyed seeing your Crissy doll. It reminded me of her friend Velvet, with long blonde hair, that I have. I also have a ballerina doll that would spin when you pulled up on part of her crown on top of her head but I don't remember her name. Being baby boomer I have an original Pepples (Flintstones) doll ,unfortunately minus the " bone" in her hair and a "Tippy-Toes" doll. I would love to learn more about these dolls but don't where to begin. I tried before but only got more confused. I would also love to know who might be interested in them since I have a son and nephews and know nobody in the doll world or ebay etc. They need good homes and I'd rather it not be a dumpster or landfill. I want someone who will love them. They aren't perfect but I know a doll person would know how remedy flaws or replace etc. It's like I know what I have but I don't know what I have if that makes any sense. Kinda not like to be taken advantage of and you are the only person I've felt comfortable with. ( I'm southerner too 😂) Thank you for any advice!

My made to move (blue top) Barbie doll’s neck is completely ruined :( Here’s how it happened:
I was getting ready about to play with her with my sister and had to clean her up. I was washing her hair when I heard a tiny crack. I thought it was just her plastic making sounds when so I didn’t think much of it. When I tuned her around to rinse her hair, I saw that her neck was cracked and the pieces were inside her head. I was thinking about just simply taking here head off, removing the little pieces, and gluing it back together. But then I noticed that all around the front of her back was broke.
I still decided to removed her head anyway. I tried to heat it up first but got impatient, and when I tried to remove her head… it crashed even more and her neck peg was stuck in her head! Fortunately, I got it out bet her neck peg is pretty messed up now. My mom said that if my dad can’t help me fix it then she will get me a new one. If the first option doesn’t work and I do have to end up getting a new doll, then I will remove the new doll’s head and replace it with the old one (because I have had that doll for almost a year and don’t wanna replace her).
