it’s forbidden and haram in Islam. because our bodies are entrusted to us by Allah and no one can touch their body without Allah’s approval. only he can take the life he created, and the only thing acceptable is to be buried in the ground. we came from the soil, we will return to the soil. that’s all.
As per islam when you die it means that only the soul has left the body while you can still hear voices, can feel cold or warm (but only if allah wishes). Means that your heart only stops beating and only the blood stopped flowing. Imagine hearing and feeling few things and still being unable to talk back. That's why islam says to give the dead person a bath, wear them a cloth (kafan) and bury them in a good way. So that the body doesn't feel being harashed. And cremating them or burning them can be a horrible act to be done to anybody. The dead one can feel it the same way as the alive one. No living person likes to be burned. We are advised to not say anything offensive while at funeral. And to behave in a good way to the body. So that the body can be at peace.
One thing you might knew is, it's very common thing known all over the world about muslims is we believe this world is a test and the real test starts after death till you enter jannah and find relief. And this afterlife test starts the moment the soul leaves the body.
