When you're so bad at focusing that you can't even focus on a video about why you can't focus and read the comment section instead.
*Me*
Ukko omg, I cant even count how many times I’ve had to rewind this video and I’m not even through it all yet lol.
I watch - I pause - I read a couple comments - I repeat 🙄
I do cross-stitch while watching/listening to videos. It helps keep my hands busy, and I found that it does help focus, just like drawing during lectures actually keeps students listening to what is being said without getting distracted (and yes, I did it at school and university too, how did you guess). I only got sidetracked once because I ran out of thread, so I had to stop the video, put a new one in and start it again.
💀
Hahahaha
It's so funny that every time I open CZcams to watch something important, I always watch something else first. Sometimes I end up forgetting the important thing I wanted to watch.
So true
hah i just did that, thanks for reminding xD
I try my best to not look at the recommendations when I first open up CZcams
You wouldn't believe the amount of things i have in "watch later" and in random pinning that gets stuffed at the bottom of the pit to read and print or download later but I almost never do! Like not cleaning your room but virtually!
Every.... single...time!! 😡😡 This is how time flies so fast lol I tend to avoid CZcams if I have a important event just because of this, too much distraction!
Disabling notifications does not deprive you of anything, its a genuinely good idea to get out of the habit of being on your phone. You do not need up-to-the-second realtime data at all times. I may be the only one but I find all notifications to be really annoying. No dopamine, just anger , when the phone is dinging over and over while im trying to read or work ..
i needa know when my friends and family text me tho cuz it's sometimes an emergency
@@kokobi7482 you can also change the priority of your notifications! And you can also change the notif sound depending on that priority
This is why I always have my phone on silent, but old-timey SMS and phone calls still buzz on my watch. So I don't have to answer every little message and check every single thing, but have a filter for when people really want to reach me.
Generation " X " I take it ? If not that's okay , just I am of that generation , and I hate my so called smart phone ( there's nothing smart about them ) , but I have to have one in todays world as there are no more public phones anywhere . there is no good public anything anymore , except maybe public shaming , we all seemed to get very good at that . This is the only reason that I do not believe that we ever went to the moon , because they say that it was less technology that got us there than what is in our smart phones , this is all the proof I need , LOL.

This actually made me feel a bit better about myself. Despite having ADHD, it seems I might actually be less distractible than most people are nowadays. I have a smartphone, but I can easily go all day without looking at it.
Yeah, I have ADHD as well and I found the framing of dopamine as less reward and more desire, very interesting. ADHD brains have less dopamine triggering, this has the effect of making us appear disengaged, or distracted from things around us. In a world of constant interruptions, particularly unimportant interruptions, being less susceptible might actually make us the more attentive.
Ironically i too have something loke adhd but it appears to make me more addicted if anything
Or perhaps its something else idk, either way its depressing
@Alexander Freeman
There are swathes of people who’ve been misdiagnosed with the phenomenon of ADHD. This “clinical population” often have the unique ability to process encode and store multiple types of visual, auditory and olfactory stimuli simultaneously. This is particularly useful in professions such as music production and criminology/investigative work ...

The part about Edward Bernays affected me deeply. After my mother died from lung cancer at 42 I found her diary from high school. It had an entry: "Smoked 3 Liberty Torches today." The devastation caused by this man is unbelievable. He wrote a book called "Propaganda" that any modern person should read. You will never look at your Dr., Minister, or "News" the same again. I am so tired of dealing with children and their beliefs of pure fantasy.
It's funny that you put this up as it mirrors my views of the media. I gave away my TV and radio about 5 years ago and have never looked back. On social media I methodically block every advertiser that crops up, this way I have some control of it. On CZcams as soon as ads come on I mute the sound and scroll down to look at what else I can watch. It's not a perfect system but my stress levels have dropped significantly since doing this, and no more watching the news as it is now a cess pit. The biggest thing I have done is go back to reading, reading actual books no computer no distractions and it is damned liberating.
As soon as I became aware of clickbait tactics, they have the opposite effect on me. I'm repulsed by titles that don't give answers.

I've had a strong sense of "looking at the bigger picture" since I was in my late 20s. THIS... has enabled me to filter through B.S. much more easily over time. While I DO still get distracted fairly frequently, I also can see through much MORE crap. And when I compare myself to others, I see that MOST others are terribly distracted MUCH more often. I'm VERY concerned for younger generations in general. Because they see this 'style' of communication as "normal"... and maybe always have.
The truth is most are willing participants to the brainwashing. Most of societies heads are so up their asses, they beg to be manipulated. I would suggest that 80% of Americans are more interested in a rap/sex video, tiktok, Facebook or spending their last dime on the newest IPhone, than they are having a successful career and paying their own way through life. That is why I don't feel sorry for them when they complain about having nothing or working for "the man." Those above listed are their priorities and society is willingly being played for chumps, while some of us are laughing all the way to the bank.

It is true that those companies keep making us hooked.
But accepting us as helpless to control the attention is self fulfilling prophecy. There are ways we can control it, e.g practicing mindfulness, change our subconscious belief, etc.
It's not easy, but eventually we are the only one who have control of our mind.
Or even better, turning off our phones when we are studying or with freinds.
Not everyone can control himself though, especially people with ADHD or addiction

Detachment can help modulate your desires, but the desires are still there. Attempting to deny them just reinforces them (worst are the numerous kinds of addicts that are now addicted to Jesus or 12 step programs or most insidious of all; yoga pants).

Figuring out less damaging ways to sublimate your desires is touch and go at best, but there is the wild circus of the world just outside, and who really drives by a car wreck without looking?

Focus is attention which is the intent directed placement of awareness. It has absolutely nothing to do with the brain. The problem is overloading of sensual inputs which distracts from mindfulness/reflection into things, objects, sounds, smells, tastes, feelings ... It shifts beings from spiritual development into states of sensuality (animals).
You are right, I don't play along though. I never look at the notifications that still come through, despite turning the "push" notifications off. I simply clear them from my messages panel and then from the apps they are still in. I check texts, missed calls and social media messages for me, personally. I have multiple ongoing conversations happening at all times and it takes a little while to make my way through those. After that, I have several subscriptions to various CZcams channels that are centered on particular subjects, from off-grid living on a shoestring to stealth camping. I'm very conscious of the time I give to all of these things and I have trained myself to put it down and return to the non-digital world 🌎 I have lived in all my life for the evening. Reading, writing and playing 6-string and bass guitar, mandolin and banjo, listening to all kinds of music and old-time radio shows, as well as watching the occasional movie or listening to an audio book easily fill the time adequately. And I can't leave out board games like Risk, Go and chess or brain games like math and word puzzles. My favorite is Risk but it takes so long to play, though that doesn't stop us. Some games can go on for days. I like to make my own distractions. Good video, enjoyable though I think most people are aware of these things for the most part. It's all good, solid information and identifies (exposes) the methodology behind this crazy-weird explosion of advertising and information gathering. The end-game doesn't seem like it will be favorable to society at all.

When I was a boy, I thought myself stupid. Growing up on a very rural farm with none of the modern convinces, such as electric power or running water, garbage service, sewers, that sort of thing. When it was time to go to school we were off to the small 1 room school some 5 miles from our farm. While we were only rarely made to walk the distance, it was still a daily trip. Now for those who have no experience with a 1 room school, a short explanation is indeed in order. Our particular school was located in the middle of an area of the State formed by 5 brothers, when they passed on the area was split up between their children. So it was, nearly everyone in our school had the same last name. In a 1 room school, each class spends some time around the teachers desk, as the teacher gives them the lecture on their subject. Or course the entire school hears this subject being taught. This happens over and over as you climb the ladder of grades, sort of a preview of things to come and I always thought this helped with the education over all. In that school I made very good grades. Then came the year when my older sisters came of High School age. Since the nearest high school was some 25 miles from our farm over gravel an dirt roads, my folks decided to put the farm in the "soil bank" and find a place within driving distance. The first couple of years this worked out farily well as both sisters found places to live with relatives in town, my middle sister took a job as a baby sitter for a lady, her pay was room and board but dad thought it great, my eldest sister found a room at our granmothers house. Both girls took on night jobs at the local movie theatre, one selling tickets, the other popcorn. As things went along, we found that the haunting of the farm we were renting became a bit to bothersome and dad decided we needed to get the hell out of that place. Dad found us a rooming house that was owned by the same old man who owned the farm we had been renting. Mom, dad and my 2 sisters shared the combo living room/kitchen and one bedroom, I was given a room on the other side of the house which I shared with the fellow who washed dishes at the cafe where mom worked. Well to get to the point, I went from being the only one in the 5th grade in our one room school, to being one of 32 students in one of two rooms each filled with over 30 students in the 6th grade. This hit me like a brick shit house! I could not concentrate, I had no idea how to study since all my prior education was pretty much one on one with the teacher, here we fought for a it of attention from the teacher. I failed the 6th grade, and retook it in that town school. Well the second year in town, we had moved to a large house that we rented, dad hated to rent, said it was a damn waste of money, so he soon found a huge old house for sale on the wrong side of the tracks, where the water and sewer from the City never found their way across, and since it was in a different State nobody expected it to. We who lived on that side of town were considred roughians. I made it through the 7th and 8th grades with below average grades, and entered High School where I barly scratched through till falling in love with the true love of my life, while still a Junior. The spring of my Junior year, we were married, and I began my senior year in the fall. Well I knew I was failing my classes, and thought it was a waste of my time. After all here I was a married man going to school with a bunch of kids! So I dropped out and we moved to a nearby State where jobs were plentyfull and I went to work pumping gas at a truck stop, while my new wife served truckers coffee and chow at the cafe. This went on till Christmas when both our young minds suffered the agony of homesickness. After a night of drinking and crying for home, we decided to abandon our new life and move back home. When we got there, things had not changed. You could not buy a damn job, oh sure my wonderful wife found a job right off pouring coffee for the locals as the truck stop in townk but I found myself with no education, only a small list of jobs and with no income, my folks had to help us out. They had moved back to the main part of town since mom was in an auto accident that left her crippled to the point that an outdoor privy was out of the question, so they let us have the house on the wrong side of the tracks to live in while we got settled, and after a couple of months of total depression and trying to scrape by on what my wife made waiting tables I decided the only choice I had was to join the Army after all Vietnam was still going strong back in 1970 and they had thousands of jobs open, more opened each day with the death of more soldiers over there. I found I did very well in the Army schools which really paid off there. You see when assignments are passed out, the better your scores on the MOS tests, the higher the unit you could serve in. With my top scores, I was always at Brigade or at the least Group Headquarters. Well life went on, after the Army I joined the police force, again finding that I could make top scores at the police Academy. Following 24 years on the force, an accident put me on the disabled list. Workers Comp sent me to college where I found myself at the top of my class. The other students hated my test ability since I always killed the curve on the grading of tests and such. I graduated with a 4.0 gpa. I attribute my change in ability to learn to a couple of things. In the lower schools all I was interested was pussy and beer, when I was going to college, I knew my next career was dependent on my grades. Oh and ONE professor in college began his class (which was said to be the most difficult class in the entire college) by a lecture on how to study and take notes. This opened my eyes and I followed his advice to the letter. Well as things turned out, nobody wants a fresh college graduate, even with a 4.0 GPA when he is 55 years old. Ah well such is life. I recently lost the love of my life after 51 years of loving and living together. God how I miss my cute little girl, when we were wed she was 101 pounds and 5'0" When she was buried, she wore the same dress she wore on our wedding day. She held in her hand the gold plated rose I gave her one year before for our golden 50th wedding anniversary. Today is Valentines day, I had a rose to place on her grave but the temp is -30 degrees F right now, I think I will wait for another time to giver her that gift. Sorry for the book but somehow it makes me feel a bit better about life to talk this out, and I have so few friends left, they are dying off so quickly now what with Covid and old age.
I am so sorry for your loss.. and thank you for your story. It touched my heart. And I wish you everything good in this world. Take care and stay safe.

I read your story. Thank you for sharing. You are not alone in your experience
Lovely and melancholy.
Thanks Jerry, I read your story. You've had a full and blessed life despite the heartache.
9:43 "mainstream media and unreliable media" - Well, mainstream media is *also* unreliable itself.
As soon as he said that, I had to zoom down to the comments to see if anyone else caught it. lol
MSM is just the index, a list of topics to research. Take the stories then go and research them yourself in as unbiased way as possible.
As the old saying goes; believe half of what you see, and none of what you hear.
Thank you.
@@----.__ But there’s also things that they never mention nor talk about
@@jefffinkbonner9551 I said a list of topics to research, not a definitive list of the only things you should look in to. Big difference.
I've noticed that as well. Too many headlines screaming all at once when I hadn't even came online for a certain info. This better explained it and how it works. Thanks for the informative video👍
Omg my notifications got so annoying that they are all turnt off, and so is my volume. Only my ring tone is on😂😂😂. If I have to wait, I put my phone down and walk away 😂😂. I got other stuff to do 😂😂. I only watch this at night before bed ❤❤ the show.
It's not just focus...it's patience.
I worked as a night auditor for 10 years at a major hotel. I also handled security when I had to...including training some aspects of the hotels security.
Long story short, I gave a test after about a week of someone being hired. It was simple: "Go into the lobby, sit down, and do NOTHING for 10 minutes. Nothing. No cell phone checking, no reading magazines/newspapers, not talking...nothing. Just sit there. Ready...? GO!"
..
Every single 20-something person failed except for one. The LONGEST time any of these kids managed to sit there and do nothing...are you ready? Ok, it was three minutes. Seriously. That's it. Shortest was about 30 seconds. It was CRAZY! And yes, this did make them do their job more poorly; shorter 'fuse' with difficult patrons or visitors, inability to wait to see if someone was up to shenanigan's, etc. The guy who passed? He had no cell phone. That was the only difference...well, he was also really smart. Always nice to have someone smart to talk to. :)
..
Me? I have no cell phone. I also have security settings and browsers and whatnot for browsing the net that I don't see advert's. I am not on social media...no twitter, instagram, facebook, etc. Only CZcams and BitChute, really.
..
As for "click bait". I specifically avoid any title that doesn't say anything. For example, your video "This Animal Can Do Something That Shouldn't be Possible"...only reason I watched it was it was on auto-play and started next. Another example of your videos... "Don't Want to Ruin Your Life? Never Do These Things". Haven't watched it. On purpose. :) Why? Too non-specific. I'm not wasting my time with a 22 minutes video that I don't know I might find interesting.
..
Then again... I'm guessing I'm not normal. That's fine. Everyone can be wrong, that's the most likely scenario. ;)
oh really?

I've participated in silent retreats where I sat in one place alone from sun up to sun down. No talking, walking, eating, fidgeting, no electronics. And the only time I got up was to pee. I didn't find it all that hard.
This video guilt tripped me into watching the entire thing. I feel like I'm obligated to give it my attention.
Also, Bernays could possibly be one of the worst humans ever born. He's an unknown villian in history.
Very true on Bernays. This elitist mind manipulator was allowed to freely run his social engineering on the American public because... well jeeez, look what just happened in germany. America let down it's immunity to his parasitic group and look where we are now.
Blaming Bernays for the weaknesses of human psychology is like blaming Murphy for the misfortunes which accompany Murphy's Law.
@@invictusdomini8624 No its not. Treating people like a herd of cattle is wrong. And good natured people will believe a big lie because its outside of their moral framework to even consider they're being that deeply manipulated.
A strong nationalist (or perhaps communist) government is the only way to regulate things and protect the population from psychopaths and alien elements that want to manipulate and exploit them, and promote and normalize the basest materialism and degeneracy for profit or control. Which is exactly what free market capitalsm has gotten us. Individualism leads to tyranny because cohesive groups will always have the advantage and take over.

Good vid. I learned early on that click bait does not provide the alluded to information. So I never click on it. And targeted ads do not work on me because they come after I made my purchase and am no longer interested in the product. Even the yoyo who keeps trying to get me to contact them by imitating the people making these videos does not get any response from me.
My adhd brain gave this video, about a lack of focus, its total undivided attention. Love your content man

Me: Laughs in Adblocker Plus
Been using some kind on adblocker for 10 years + still amazes me when people complain about ads on jewtube.
lol
There's no ads on this video anyway.
@Ty Lafitte blame the system not the users. IF you feel like you are robbing them, then thats because CZcams as a platform has decided this is the only way their content creators can benefit from all the work they put into what actually keeps the site alive. If add revenue is all that holds it together, then let it burn for all I care. If it truly becomes a problem, let the creators take up the real problem with CZcams, because that's where the issue really lies. It's not between the creators and the viewers, it's between the creators and the platform itself.
I use CZcams vanced on android device and it's better than using adblocker
Thoughty2 covers anything and everything, the more obscure the better. This channel was suggested to me because that's exactly where my interests reside.
Funny thing is, twelve seconds in and I already opened the comments section...
Thanks Thoughty2, this one was absolutely needed.
Dolores Cannon said she was a librarian in the Alexandria library when it burned down. She was basically a woman who gave many sessions of hypnosis to thousands of people, including the process of death or reborn. Her book which I started to read gives many details. It’s called Between death and life - Dolores Cannon
I start watching a video about losing focus and then, 20 seconds later I lose focus and I'm scrolling down to the comments. You too, huh?
I lasted 5 minuses before I decided to check comments :P
Well, this actually made me feel sick and gave me an intense urge to turn of my computer (something I will do as soon as I have posted this). At this point I figure that being traditionally bored with nothing to do might actually be better than being bored while distracted by trash on youtube. God I might have to actually have to draw or play the violin to entertain myself instead of wasting time on youtube or online discussions wondering why I can't motivate myself to do those things.
That's the reason I come to your videos everyday... Leaving my work to see how an Asteroid could kill me 1million years to come... Please make a video on the ultimate solution for this
For what it's worth, my adhd brain only lost focus 1.5 times during this 23 minute video which is rare but at the same time, I was supposed to be studying right now

Before I click on a video on CZcams, I consider whether I really want to actually watch it, and try to keep in mind that most titles are clickbaits. I think it works quite well.
You are an amazing individual . Thank you for your objectivity and deep research that creates a channel experience unlike any other. In todays world..... that is a monumental achievement !
Highlights: "You get a notification: Someone's liked your avocado toast!" and your perfect book cover, truly worthy of the 'legendary' descriptor.
Thanks for keeping us smart by teaching us dumb stuff.
Funny. While going through a stressful time a few years back, I had left my phone at work a few times. I can't remember anyone who did not ask me with absolute incredulity how I managed to go 12 hours without my phone [most of which was sleeping]. 🤦♂️ I think back to that often and since then I typically leave my phone at home when I go out. Trust me, itll make you happier.
While I'd like to do that, having your car break down in the middle of nowhere and not having a phone can make it into much more of an issue than it would otherwise be.
A lot of today's jobs also require you to be in constant communication also (as in having a cell phone with you). If there was a practical way for me to permanently do away with having a phone, I would.
For someone who has had a problem with actually watching an entire CZcams video without being distracted or listening to it in the background while doing something else, I was actually able to watch this whole thing without doing anything else. This video actually did capture my attention but was actually able to keep it as it interests me so much (mainly because I have noticed a decline in my focus level and this helps explain what is going on causing this).
This video was really well done. Kudos on a great video and for taking the time to do the research on the subject. Have a like and a sub!

We use our phone primarily to call and communicate but if your doing more unnecessary stuff then just bring a apple watch cellular if your having iphone and you want reduce screen on time on phone then a phone which has nothing to do but it is on wrist will result more productive.
During this 23 minute video, I felt the need to check my phone 6 times. One time I actually did. My mind wandered off a few times too.

they don't. schools are a mess.
17:50 i have to disagree on this part. I spent somedays more time watching home page on youtube/netflix and keep thinking there is nothing to watch.
I call that the "refrigerator effect", you are hungry and open the refrigerator look into it and even if it's full, you close it and start thinking there is nothing inside.
It depends on the person. I am the same, but I know many who will click on every video on there home page

I turned off raise to wake and almost every push/ regular notifications years ago and it was crazy how that dropped my overall phone usage almost immediately. Then last year I apply screen time limits to things like cocoas media and games, and even though I can bypass them, I usually take that as an opportunity to do something else
I personally hate the way companies ask details just to look at their sites, so I always just refuse cookies etc and go without. I got rid of my mobile phone a few years ago (it was a very basic phone) best decision I ever made, I do run my own business but when I am out of the office I am out. Yes, I look at youtube, but I do my best to search what I want and not look often at what it wants me to. My interests are so varied youtube / face book can't keep up and just irritates me with the advertising which I never watch even when it wants me to I just have something else to deal with while the add runs. Good video thoughty2, also showed my 10yr old, she hates the idea of being less smart :)

I've been led to believe that the past participle, "led," is the correct form of the verb, "to lead" for that situation. Oh, but maybe you meant the metal, lead. Heavy, man!
@@krietor Nice catch there. I'm going to lead (see what I did there) with the 'typing on a phone screen' defence. With all the mistakes and failed autocorrects that entails.
Wow, this was really eye opening. A lot of it I already took as true but the explanation of how dopamine is more of a tension that we relieve has made me understand my own behaviour more. It seems that to be healthy, any urge we get is a dopamine hit that we need to be able to deny, and sit with, in "uncomfortablilty." One more thing that should be taught in schools, so that we can understand ourselves better.
I have grown more and more picky with what I click on, simply because I find clickbait titles and thumbnails too obvious now and all sound and look the same. THIS IS THE GREATEST CHANNEL ON CZcams! PERIOD!! AND YOU CANT CHANGE MY MIND
This is why I try to block or boycott CZcams ads, it's too much and tiring. I also switch off my phone for an entire day, several times a week... and definitely disable all notifications!
"there is little you can do about it"
bold words for someone within ADblocking distance
Thoughty2 : the average focus duration has decreased
Me with my adhd : *you guys can focus?*
dang you beat me to posting this by two months
since 1997. I have used an advert blocking program. My router at my parents house has a list of advertising websites that are blocked from 20 years ago. So if they know anything about me... They would remove all advertising.
I disabled my Push notifications on my phone. My phone should never make noise unless I have a phone call. I hate all the shit that tries to take my focus. The phone has been sat beside me for 6 hours. I have not looked at it. My phone is not for information. it's a stupid device that allows me to talk to others. It does not need to do anything more than make phone calls.
Phone apps are full of sh*t and adverts that I can not easily remove... So they can get F*cked. The phone can sit and be ignored.
Btw, Love the book cover. Plain simple and to the point. (darn it, that was a distraction. :P )
I might also add that most of the time... I see adverts for things and then refuse to ever buy them... I am pretty anti-consumer.
It's interesting, his videos could be clickbait and yet you'd still learn so much from this man.
"A pleasurable little vibration..."
That is indeed irresistible.
? I feel like there's a meaning I'm missing, no? Or is it surface value?
Conlon he’s using clickbait.
Wink wink
To be honest, I found myself in the opposite camp as what Thoughty2 was saying when he said that phrase. I hate those push notifications, I don't turn them off, but when I start getting spammed by them, it is the very opposite of a dopamine high. It's like "what the fuck is with this dumb app hounding me right now?", which usually is followed by the individual app being muted from push notifications. The only ones I usually allow is a daily weather update, or things like that.
11:16 personally when i see articles like that my first question is: do i really care?
The answer is almost always no and I don't click on such an article. Try it, it may work for you too
As a child I would have "absence seizures", mostly in schools. If school got boring, my eye site got blury and my mind would drift off.
I didn't do well in school. I flunked 5th grade twice.
In 5th grade, I was walking down a hill on my way home from a Boys Scout meeting at night.
A bunch of kids, rolled car tires down the hill. I got hit by a tire, and flew up in the air. I landed on my head, after the "absence seizure " when away. I graduated from high school and college.
I still have a slight version of absence seizure, but it controlled.
I go into extreme concentration. I worked as an Electrician, which at times requires concentration. During these times I would go into a trance like state
Holy shit you nailed it!! My kids say when in school, the teacher do squat, and are on the phones, most of the hr.. kids dont play like we did.. there glued too their phones.. we have have been dumb down.. the phones are the new drug addiction..
I have noticed when I have things on my mind, when I'm watching a movie or a TV show that I stop paying attention to it often. It's like I fall asleep and wake up, I fall asleep and wake up, each time the show has been playing the whole time.

It also goes both ways. I don't go to certain places like mega-shopping malls, because the level of distraction there is exhausting, so they miss out on my business. I could also add it's because they mostly try and sell me stuff I don't want, though the core tenant of advertising it to get you to buy stuff you don't want or need.

OK, cards on the table, I opened this tab around lunchtime and it's now almost midnight. I had at least a dozen other tabs open, I visited FB, Gmail, eBay and paypal in the meantime. I had actual stuff to do too. Housework, gardening, a trip to the letterbox. I also made and ate two meals. I enjoyed the video, as usual, and know it was targeted well, but when I finally did get around to watching it, I was only listening for the last ten minutes as I had to quickly check something on Google Earth, and once I had that information, was fascinated by the changes to that area since I was last there as a boy.
