- 004 - Join hosts Emily and Jason Morrow as they delve into the concept of slow living and explore how the culture of busyness is impacting our lives. In a world where speed is often prioritized over quality, Emily and Jason discuss how this fast-paced lifestyle can hinder our ability to truly enjoy life and engage in meaningful, fulfilling activities. Through insightful, comedic conversations and practical tips, they offer guidance on how to slow down, savor the moment, and cultivate a more balanced and enriched existence.

The look that Jason gives the camera at 12:37 is KILLING ME lol. No idea why people want less Jason. I adore your banter together, you two are such a dynamic duo!!
Agreed.
Third that
Less Jason?! No way! I love them together.
He's got the Jim look 100% lol. Thanks for your post so I didn't miss it because I'm working and listening at the same time 😂
Also: "So much polyester." at 30:11. :D
I loved Emily when she was first put out here for all us, but the real solidification happened when we discovered Crunchy Mom’s husband! Together you make this so much funnier!
Now, please, we would appreciate the “Crunchy” Dad booklist.
What?! Someone left a complaint about Jason lol?!😂 I think Jason could carry a podcast all on his own, he’s hilarious and I don’t think the brand would be the same without him. I hope Jason doesn’t take it to heart, you both make it work as a team! ❤
100% agree!
Same!! They make a great team!
For the record: love having Jason on the podcast! You both are the perfect duo 😊
Poor Jason is getting bullied LOL! I love the humor he adds to the videos!
How can someone want less of Jason. Love the banter and humour he adds and is a nice balance to Emily.
The opposite of fomo that ive found is jomo - the joy of missing out ♥️. I truly find joy in saying "no, im not going to give our family's time to another sport or activity or expensive crowded outing or whatever else". Doing my best to follow and honor the Lord and love my neighbors
Don’t ever kick Jason out of Really Very Crunchy 💚 He is hilarious and perfectly complements Emily! It won’t be the same without him!
Jason’s face alone is worth the price of admission
My approach to slow living is having less 'things'. Less inventory to manage gives you a lot more time to do the things that matter. Cooking from scratch is a great way to spend time (if you like cooking), but simplifying meal prep/cooking gives me more time to read, relax, and rest (I'm 70, so I don't have the same energy level as I did in my 30's - 50's).
I am not your typical demographics, retired, children out of the home, etc. In 1992 I began reading books on alternative living, health, etc. and sent my poor children into shock as I emptied cupboards, joined co ops, etc. Watching your videos is like returning to those early days. I love it. I remember in the early days we were so poor we did not have a television, or even a radio. I would be in the kitchen making cookies, doing dishes, etc in complete silence. I miss that. I am making myself a goal of lessening the distractions. Thank you.
So when we were kids, we went to all my brothers’ baseball games and there weren’t cell phones to distract all the moms but they still weren’t watching every second of the day, they were gabbing with their friends, looking up when they realized their kid was up to bat and that’s about it. So the moms staring at their phones now aren’t doing anything different than our moms other than missing out of the community. When my daughters are at theater rehearsals or track practice, I’m getting to know the other moms, I’m forming friendships. And yeah, some days I’m on my phone. I don’t need to see every dang practice when they are still learning their skills. But you better believe when they are performing and on race day, I’m there! I take a couple pictures for a few split seconds and I enjoy in the moment the rest of it.
Adding Jason was the BEST decision! You guys have such a great relationship and the world needs to see more of it!!
There is so much pressure to be busy . Society sees busy as productive. I've changed my idea of what productive is to me. I'm home more, I've sat with myself more. Thinking without distraction has helped me figure out what I like to do. I garden more, create artwork with fabric. This is productive and meaningful to me.
I love that you numbered episodes as 00X. I hope you will get at least 100 out! I love this format, I love seeing/hearing both of you, I love your stories, I love spontaneous parts, and I love scripted parts as well!
The parents on the phone at taekwondo: When my oldest was little I saw a friend's mom post on facebook about how distressed she was to see all the parents on their phones at the park while their kids were playing. Now, this woman did not live around me, so I know she wasn't passive aggressively singling me out, but I was so frustrated and hurt by her comment. At that time I did spend a good amount of time on my phone while my kids played at the park. But here's the thing - I stayed at home with my littles. They would get up in the morning and I would talk with them. I made them food and conversed with them while they ate. I read them stories; I did poems and fingerplays; I sang songs. My oldest had a very high need for stimulation and attention so I was constantly listening to and responding to her chatter. As a strong introvert I was completely overwhelmed and taking the kids to the park was my BREAK. My kids were content to go off and play and I got 15-30 minutes of uninterrupted time. And here she was telling me that I needed to pay more attention to my kids. The message was if you're on your phone at the park you're not doing enough; you're not measuring up as a mom. I can tell you that was very unhelpful. Those kind of messages (not just hers, but everywhere) drove me to push myself into an incredibly unhealthy state of trying to do to much and be too much for my kids that ultimately caused health issues I'm still dealing with today. Unless you personally know a parent well enough to know the whole story - assume the best, shut your mouth, and leave them ALONE.
I just found you guys from farmhouse on Boone the other day and now I’m totally addicted to your content. You guys are fun!
I love it that you include your husband! It adds so much. I love both of your senses of humor.
I'm so excited for this podcast! Thanks for talking about slow motherhood. 💛
Hope you enjoy it!
Jason is to Emily as cream is to coffee. You two are a great team.
That subway story is probably one of the best stories I've ever heard. Hands down. Happy ending...BRAVO Jason!
Emily and Jason together is the perfect combo! Keep going!
Not less Jason! I think you guys have naturally struck a great balance in your conversations.
Love, love, love Emily!
Jason + Emily duo = perfection!
I love you guys as a team! No complaints about Jason! You both are great and round eachother out!
Well done!! And for the record, I like Jason's contribution.
My husband and his dad would hike into crater lake and spend a week camping. Only living off what they carried in and fishing. Every year in May for 15 years.
He loved it.
It is a beautiful place
When, as a parents, you are at gymnastics practice 5+ days a week for 4 hours I will take some time to scroll.
This was such a sweet podcast and I loved listening to it. Thank you for sharing! Slow living sounds beautiful, like a sweet, rewarding entrance into the world of being more holistic and crunchy. I loved the pieces of you both talking about your boys and savoring the moments with them. Family time is truly so priceless. Jason, if you're reading this, and I hope you are, we definitely DON'T need less of you. The two of you are so sweet together, you bounce off each other so nicely and the podcasts would never be the same without you. For what it's worth, I often relate to your views more on some things- given that the completely crunchy lifestyle isn't necessarily how I always live. Please keep speaking your mind and sharing these beautifully crafted podcasts, complete with BOTH of you. Thanks for the episode. P.S. The pizza sounds awesome.
Haven't watched this whole episode and kind of skipped around, but yes on the youth sports getting out of hand. My parents give me so much crap about my kids not doing enough sports and we used to do lots but it just got to be too much. It's nice to have a free evening to take a walk or go to the park.
I watched how my parents raised me and my 7 younger siblings without organized sports, and now I have been a nanny for eleven years and watched those families put each child in 1-3 activities or sports. It’s wild and exhausting! Most of the time, the kids would rather stay home and the parents complain about the hassle.
@@Rosie_CLucky you that you had siblings!
I loved listening to your interaction. I've been into slow living through minimalistic lifestyle for 18 years now and I love that so many people are embracing it. I don't know how so many parents can go from sporting event to event. It seems like too much on the kid even. I like that you talked about saying "no" to things so you can "invest in nourishing hobbies." Awesome. Thanks for this great chat.
I appreciate your thoughts and perspectives on this! And I like you both together because it's interesting to have different ideas.
We always say "what you're doing is your priority" - some things are given up over doing something else but it has to be something you're okay with. A very respectful counterpoint: we have three kids, all in middle and high school, and all involved in various things (sports, music, etc.). As you would imagine; we busy. But what we're doing are things we actually want to do - volunteering with my kids' schools (including being on the board and running fundraisers), kids picking their sports and activities, etc. And while we definitely have periods of time in which we can slow down, much of the school year, we're running all over the place but we find ways to be present, especially when we're with our kids. Driving the 40 minutes to a track meet means I'm talking to my son on the drive. Waiting for dinner at a restaurant means we talk as a family or play a game together to pass the time. As a photographer, I capture moments but also put the camera away to enjoy where I am and who I'm with. At games or concerts, we watch and take it in. During a practice...not always. I bring my work with me or read a book or read an article on my phone during that time because it's either a little extra time to get work in or enjoy the time I'm waiting for my kids in a different way (or I talk to other parents). I love cooking meals, but a ready made tomato sauce means quick meal prep when we're all getting home late and we can eat dinner together. We do have family movie nights but no one can be on their phone (we have older kids), not even mom and dad.
It's all a balance and you find what works for you and your family but I think the biggest thing is that no matter what, you make the time for your family and show up for them.
Also, we make homemade pizza too and have a pizza oven that sits on our grill during warm months. In the winter, we use a pizza steel in the oven and it's awesome.
I can’t imagine having kids in activities and in school. We homeschool and it still feels like a lot sometimes.
Side note: I’d love a podcast where you guys talk about your homeschool journey and what curriculum you love.
This is your first episode I'm watching/listening to. I've followed your channel for a bit. I don't just love your podcast, I have needed it. It is a warm organic soft alpaca wool sweater on a cool day for my soul. I'm serious. My heart needed this so much. You're very warm and real and easy to listen to.
I actually really like Jason on the podcast. I never thought he was whiny. I think he adds a great level of humor to the show. You guys compliment each other very well in this podcast.
I absolutely love having Jason on the videos. I was telling someone today that he makes the best counterpoint to Emily on the RVC shorts.
I love this podcast and it wouldn't be the same without Jason. I'm a homesteading mom of soon to be 4 children. To me, slow living is learning the slow, but better, way of doing things, turning off media when possible, tuning into each moment, and intentionally NOT being busy. We refuse to send our kids out to do team sports because the inevitable business is not going to help us build our family culture, which includes slow, home centered living. They get tons of exercise here at our property and we do sports together. That helps us slow down and stay together.
No judgment to people who do team sports but we can't have an intentional, peaceful life while doing them.
I love you guys! You are both so entertaining and so full of wisdom ❤❤Keep up the great work just being yourselves!!
Liking and commenting to boost Jason's analytics
I SO agree with more slow living!!
You both inspire my husband and I to start a podcast. I love this!!
Seriously, I love the videos with Jason. He is the star. ⭐️
Love you both!! Jason sarcasm is exactly what the doctor orders for the videos and podcasts. 😉 I think we need that amazing pizza recipe Jason!!!
Slow living is definitely not for the privileged!! We focus our time on serving God, gardening, working the farm, and putting our time into what matters how much ever time that is is great but we also schedule rest and down time. I prefer to be 100% present in the moment!! Emily's book was a breath of fresh air for us semi crunchy people!
Voice text hates me LOL
I have decided my new hobby will be making pizza but I need to listen to Jason's Amazing Pizza Podcast to know how to make it!😂
Amazing! Just amazing. I feel that I am not the only one thinking and living a similar life. Just be you guys and keep up the good work. I enjoy so much that I am listening during a workout and its fun (usually I have working out)
Xoxo❤
Love the banter between you two, the best decision was bringing Jason onto the videos, so much more variety is available for two people then one. ❤🎉
This was the best one, so far! Love it!
And, I love the healthy, happy marriage you BOTH portray! 🥳🥰
Thanks for allthe hard work to do this for the Internet world 😄
We have four kids (and homeschool) and they all have one sport type activity that they are passionate about. 3 do soccer, and one does karate- but even with only one extracurricular each- that is a LOT! That means 6 soccer practices a week, plus karate, and weekends are games and/or karate tournaments. Thankfully their practices are often the same time. I do distract myself during practices, but I am usually doing something other than mindless scrolling (like prepping to teach geometry, or embroidery, or reading, or reading a book with another kid, or walking.) My ADHD brain would not handle just sitting and watching practice. I focus for only a few seconds, lol. My hands have to be busy for my brain to calm.
I have said no to so much, but man, it can still feel like a lot. And I used to work full time and my kids were in daycare and school- I don’t know how I did it back then. I was very sleep deprived. I feel like we have slowed the most we can, but it’s still chaotic at times! Especially when 3-4 kids have to be a different places at the same time and we don’t have family nearby.
There will always be critics. I love the perspective of both of you!
I been living a lot more intentionally this year and feel the benefits but i did face boredom for a while to start with, so life is definitely effecting us that way!
These podcasts are amazing guys! Jason, you are actually really inspiring, I kinda wish I could sit down and chat with my husband the way you guys can talk together! I can listen to you both all day! 😊
Thank you for all of these podcasts and please keep them coming!
So excited for this topic! Will the podcast be a regular thing or are you doing it short term? I've been really enjoying it so far 😊
Our plan is weekly for a year, then see how we're feeling about it.
That's great, I'm looking forward to future episodes
You guys are hilarious together 😂 Love it!! 🙌
Ps- LOVED the Flight of the Concords reference 😂😂😂
We live in Louisville KY, I grew up in Florida and my husband grew up here. He barely has an accent now but when he was a kid he had the thickest country accent, it's so funny and adorable! He still slips into it occasionally.
I love how they ts like Jason is interviewing you but you have amazing discussions from his questions
Ruthless Elimination of Hurry by John Mark Comer is a great read on slowing down life. Dallas Willard has some great reads on the topic too.
Wow! I love both of you!❤
From Asian-wati the Cree stand, watching the sky. Flying overhead is the sun’s girlfriend, on a journey to deep into the soul of Anahuac .
From time immortal he has welcomed her in oyamel , giving refuge to her body under firs and guiding her spirit to Xipe-totec
Her spirit is preserved and she gains stronger wings to fight Western winds . To meet the Cree again, to land on mountains with rugged rocks in the north.
She is soft . She is resilient. She doesn’t belong to anyone or is a subject of any state.
She is a Monarch.
Hi guys! I love the podcast since it was out
Jason you are refreshing in the podcast. We need to heard you more you. You are more serious and calm than her, both complement each other! 💗
You are not complaining at all 💗
Your wife has a big personality a lot to say all the time she has things to say :) You are as important as your wife ❤️
Let me tell you something your histories about both of you wouldn’t be the same without one of you
I am not English native sorry but I love your podcast. TEAM CZcams to see how you treat each other when both of you are speaking. Tenéis una química super cute ❤️ 🏠
This is so good. So nice to see you guys unscripted. I have been DESPERATE for a slower pace.
Love your podcast, perfect duo!
Love your banter together! I’ve watched your videos since the beginning, but my husband only really enjoys and relates to the ones Jason is in 😅
And Amen to slow living! Praying it’s not just a trend but reality check for most people :)
Loved the podcast and hearing about what slow living means to you both!
"it sounds expensive. " My thoughts exactly. I think slow living doesn't have to be like that, you can get quality pieces from local thrift stores, that also divest from big chain stores and fast fashion.
Idk, but I love y'all together!
I love the both of you. Without Jason and maybe his criticism it wouldn't be the same!!! All the best!! Whatever kombutcha is...
i love how jason was very quick to defend dr seuss lol 🤣
These days parents need to be present more than ever, there are so many poor influences and creeps ….and far too much pressure to be involved in stuff. It’s expensive, exhausting, makes it diffuse to eat healthy, and a myriad of other things, including being distracted.
Emily, I had to laugh at the “I just do it!” comment because I had to think about the raised garden boxes and how you were NOT doing that because you were wanting to do all of the research on the boxes so it’s perfect- and I thought- wait! It’s like me!
There are some things where I just go for it (example: yesterday I spontaneously decided to clean the siding on the 2nd floor of our house- and a few minutes later I was on the roof- it looks a lot better now) but on other things? I’m like “wait, let me think about it for a month and then research for 3 months, and then protrastinate for 3 more months- and then get annoyed by the whole thing and THEN finally just do it….” 😊
This was a great topic! Love your insights, both of you! 😆🥰
Thank you so much 🤗
Love everything!
I love Jason!
The accent thing was so funny to me. I noticed my East Texas accent thanks to a 5th Grade English video project and spent years trying to train myself out of it.
This podcast is great! I'm really enjoying the playfulness y'all bring to the realities you discuss.
Lol!! "Having to wait on the end of their sentences." Trude!
Ok but “o the places you will go” is the best Dr Seuss story
So about Jason’s comment to quit your job- in some cases he’s right 😂 I quit my job for many reasons, mainly health, and it was the best decision I’ve made in a long time. So more Jason please.
MORE JASON!!!
Feeling called out as I’m cleaning my kitchen and listening to you two at the same time. 😂🎉
my hubby and i are really enjoying your conversation! we need to pause and return 21:30 timestamp where we left off so we can continue :)
I love the Jason!
Cat in the Hat Comes Back was my favorite book to read to my son lol
Keep Jason- he is an awesome crunchy dad.❤
I found your channel from farm house on boones youtube channel (the video you appeared on). I think you and your husband are great together, same kinda humor me and my husband have together lol
23:35 not me distracting myself with this video right now 😳
Jason Reminds me of my Husband so I obviously think he’s great
JASON!! I love seeing you in the videos. I’m starting from the beginning watching just sweet Emily and it’s nice and sweet but together yall are so funny together. I wish my husband and I could get along like this. We are total opposites like yall but we cranky old farts. Ahaha.
Would love to see an episode touching on the topic of generational learning in regards to our ways of life. For instance, we homeschool but I was raised public schooled and it's something of a touchy subject between our parents and us in regards to the children. Things like not wanting our kids to have those ever popular flav-o-ice pops and skittles are laughable to them vs serious to us. Let's deep dive into the mental emotional consequences of change lol
Keep going and don’t change a thing. You guys are totes cool 😎
I can’t say “no” to your videos and podcasts.
Feeling called out about listening to the podcast while I clean😂
I’m watching the podcast because it’s BOTH of you
Okay… the Flight of the Concords reference was totally unexpected and just made the podcast! 😂
This was SO good! Thank you!
(Emily, I love all of your dresses- where do you get them or do you make them yourself?)
Most of her dress are by „Sondeflor“
More Jason, please🙏 😂
Thidwick the Big-hearted Moose and Horton Hatches the Egg are both real page turners as far as Doctor Seuss goes
When waiting I read, order groceries etc. I question how good it is for kids to be So involved in sports. After school kids need a break .
“Just get it done” can replace the famous tagline in the event you all become paranoid about getting sued. 👀😜
Calling me out gor listening while doing the dishes. 😂
I’m early 😮
Try sneetches, it’s a great book!
And yertle the turtle!
Well, I’m a fan of you Jason. 😂
MORE COMPLAINING JASON!
