- When one thinks of the late ‘80s and early ‘90s influx of male R&B singing groups that would go on to produce timeless hits that everyone knows the words to, names like Shai, Silk and Jodeci automatically come to mind, right? But, what about Portrait? The R&B vocal quartet, consisting of members Michael Angelo Saulsberry, Irving Washington III, Eric Kirkland and Phillip Johnson may not be talked about as much as the aforementioned artists but, they definitely made their mark in the genre as well.

Everytime I hear ….here we go again that song definitely puts me in good spirits timeless classic
I was today's year-old learning that Here We Go sampled Michael Jackson's, "I Can't Help It". I'm usually good at catching that stuff. Well, you learn something new everyday!😁
I heard that sample right away it jumped out at me.

Fun Facts: MichaelAngelo Saulsbury was featured on an episode of “Iyanla Fix My Life” about Healing a Black Man’s Heart. He also produced/wrote along with his group mate Eric “It’s For You” by Shanice which was featured on the “Meteor Man” soundtrack
Philip’s ex-wife is Psychiatrist Dr. Imani Walker ; they were both featured on the reality show Married To Medicine(Los Angeles) ✨

Here We Go stays on rotation in my Playlist. This is one of the few groups covered on this channel that didn't have any bad blood amongst them and that's always good to hear.
Same here lol it was added to my most repeated list.
I was so happy to hear that as well all too often that isn't the case groups disband bitter and mad at each other they only come together when someone passes away.

For us, having lived that era... those bona fide New Jack joints strike a chord within you in ways that neither the old folks back then, or the youngins now who weren't alive then, can never understand.
I do think what "benefited" them in not having bad blood was a lack of success for those typical schisms to develop.
...though we've also seen groups disband and be bitter toward one another over far less success, I will admit.
The 90s was just stacked with R&B groups the competition was just strong every group had that one or 2 crazy hit songs that just stuck in your mind AKA making babies hit. Portrait was just another wild card love their songs

Still one of my favorite RnB songs to date. It stays in heavy rotation. I'm just glad there was no animosity or bad break up with this group. It's rare that you find that. Shout out to Portrait!

That was a great story. It was so great to that Portrait didn’t care about fame and fortune, stuck to there beliefs, and did not let the music industry change them, or take advantage of them.
I could tell they seemed different from so many other male groups who changed or adapted to stay in the industry major kudos to them for not being puppets and selling out for quick fame.

I only discovered Portrait a few years back and actually prefer their tracks to a lot of the other male R&B acts of the time - their tracks show emotion without being gut-wrenching (for want of a better term). Pleased to hear they're all still in touch and working together.

Great video. These guys were severely underrated. Although, they only had 2 released singles on the 1st album. I still have On and On and Precious moments in the rotation. I love those 2 songs!

Big fan of your channel. Portrait was one of my favs in the 90's. Just a friendly side note I really liked the longer video formats when you dig deeper into things like the artists' music videos, released singles, interviews ect. I know it probably cant be done everytime. Just know that us lovers of 90's nostalgia really appreciate your hard work. Blessings.
