      Ironically, this was the only song on Neil's album, "Comes A Time" that she did not sing backup on. (Great album by the way!) And yet, this was the one from Neil's album that she ended up recording and releasing as her own single (Linda Ronstadt was the one that suggested she do the song)

    • @John_Chu
      @John_Chu Před 2 lety +10

      @@moonbeam2062 You're correct on the first point. Neil's "Lotta Love" was recorded with Crazy Horse before the rest of "Comes A Time." On the second point, Nicolette herself contradicted Linda's version of the story: "I got that song off a tape I found lying on the floor of Neil's car. I popped it in the tape player and commented on what a great song it was. Neil said: 'You want it? It's yours.'" Cheers.

      I THINK NICOLETTE WAS AN INCREDIBLE SINGING TALENT ..THERE WERE NOT ENOUGH GREAT SONGS TO HAVE MADE HER MORE THAN A ONE HIT WONDER AVAILABLE TO RECORD BACK THEN .THAT IS WHY SOMEONE LIKE STEVIE NICKS HAD SO MANY HITS. SHE COULD WRITE HER OWN SONGS AND ALSO HAD BAND MATES LOADED WITH SONGWRITING TALENT ...I DON'T THINK HER DAUGHTER IS ANYWHERE NEAR AS GIFTED AS A SINGER BUT SHE HAS EVERY RIGHT TO PERSUE A CAREER IN MUSIC AND I HOPE SHE HAS SOME SUCCESS .BUT NICOLETTE HAD A GREAT VOICE AND IN THAT ONE SONG CREATED SOMETHING TIMELESS THAT WILL ALWAYS BE HEARD ON EASY LISTENING FORMAT RADIO AND SATALITE STATIONS ... .SHE WAS ALSO SO CUTE IN A VERY EARTHY WAY ..

    She was big on progressive jazz radio stations in the 80s and 90s. This is a sweet tune. You could find her singing backup vocals for about everyone in the day. Most notably Linda Ronstadt, she was even one of the "cheerleaders" on Cheech and Chongs iconic classic "Basketball Jones". Check out "Radioland" my favorite song by her and the album of the same name is very good as well.

    Harri, fun fact - Nicolette dated Linda Ronstadt's guitar player, Andrew Gold for a time. During that time, he produced her, "All Dressed Up and No Place to Go" album. He also wrote a few songs she recorded such as "Still You Linger On" and co-wrote "I Want You So Bad" with her. Nicolette died in 1997, Andrew died in 2011. RIP to both.
    When you get a chance, you should react to Andrew's hit songs, "Lonely Boy" and "Thank you For Being A Friend" (The latter which was adapted as the theme song to the TV series "The Golden Girls".

    Lonely in San Francisco, on a night in North Beach a long time ago, I sat with a glass of red wine and this song played on the juke box. I instantly thought Nicolette was singing this song to me. She was trying to awaken my soul (and a great many other souls out there, as well!). She ignited a spark inside me. Such is the power and the inspiration of a great piece of music, sung by a true artist. You left us too soon, Nicolette, but you left us this song and this memory.

There are a number of version on youtube but this I think is one of the best as Nicolette looks so happy as you note. Worth reading her Wikipedia article as she didn’t have huge commercial success after this but did a spectacular amount of vocal work with many of the big names. Tragically died young. 😀 . For me, the most beautiful woman (not related to me) who ever lived. I would devote my life to the love of a girl like Nicolette Larson.

    So glad you played the long version. The only thing wrong with the single on the radio is that this gem is far too short

    What your hearing is a remix of various versions. Good . But look up the original and see and hear a slight difference of arrangement.

    The sax in this song has haunted me my whole life. Pretty sure it is Al Garth who was Glenn Frey's number one go to sax player.
