ive never even heard new DnB as of recent... this is really the only era where this exists where it matches the complexity of the beats as well as the atmosphere overall..
I miss all the GOOD racing games (need for speed 3/high stakes/Gran Turismo) when they used ACTUAL electronica style music. I felt like I was in a car show all the time. And the music in general just FEELS GOOD. Compared to the new shit, its all hit and miss. Or a bunch of remade nonsense because nobody can be original anymore.... ~_~

Anytime a dnb mix opens with Hypersleep you know it's going to be good.
These are the sounds I found when I got stationed in Germany in 96. Changed my life.
Just years ago, I used to think DnB was some of the most boring, yet out-there music I’d heard. Now it makes absolutely perfect sense.

@@user-nk7bn3gm6xwell really this mix is a mixture of Drum & Bass and Jungle aspects at different times.. for producers like Source Direct it was interchangeable as a term in the beginning of the scene.. but the mix starts out as Drum and Bass then grows into a more Jungle influenced vibe as it progresses, in my opinion.. but it's all open to debate as Jungle is drum and bass, at the core of it all, but there are definitely pure Jungle elements later on in the mix
your point being?
Drum'n'bass is programmed drum machines, jungle is sampled breakbeats of real drummers on old soul and funk records. The breakbeats are sped up and cut up to give jungle its unique sound. That's the difference between jungle and drum'n'bass from a technical standpoint. Alex Reece - Pulp Fiction is a perfect example of the beginnings of drum and bass. The crazy breakbeats have gone and been replaced by clean and simple programmed drum sounds.
The music in this video was called intelligent jungle in the 90's. Some called it ambient jungle. This music really hit the mainstream when Godlie released Inner city life. Adam F circles was another massive track that was the peak of this genre.
This is the sound of my endless journeys on rollerblades - headphones on, riding through the fields for hours and hours, occasionally greeting a cow or a fellow human, completely in sync with the music. I cannot begin to express how happy I was then. The combination of rhytmic movement and this music: Heaven!

need for speed 4 high stakes - probably the main reason why i'm in love with electronic music.
this soundtrack cannot be described in words. when i heard it the first time i was shocked. also there was fifa 2001, gran turismo 2, nhl 2000-2002 (especially nhl 2002, Rom Di Prisco is godlike) and so on, musically it was a great time. it's scary to imagine what my taste in music would be if I was born later :D
sadly i didnt play in nfs 2 and 3, but I listen to the soundtrack from time to time, it's just awesome. (especially Aquila 303 and Hydrus 606, again Rom Di Prisco is god :D)

Wow, great set!! it reminds me of the time around the year 2000. At that time I was in a club almost every Friday🤭 My favorite was the Roxy club in Prague. They mostly played techno, trance or tech-house on the main stage, but in the tea room (chillout zone) they played exactly such "intelligent d'n'b" like this. My friends often found me there, because I usually liked this music more than what they played on the main stage 😂...
I went to that club one time, think it was 2002. Was weird as a tourist, Czech culture different, but the locals helped me out, great night.
When I listen to this melody I imagine that I am inside an elegant and futuristic car imaginatively traveling down the snow covered highway without stopping, sitting atmospherically.

I embraced almost all the sounds the 90s had to offer and this break beat and Jungle sound from the UK formed some smooth memories.. Goldie's Timeless felt like the perfect album to sum up that

Timeless times i did listened timeless track from Goldie. I can't name how my headphones loudly delivered that magic to others around, I went like flu with that. People went to get it, stuck on it and searched for more that was fantastic time in whole club culture, here in Lithuania,Poland,Latvia.
That first Bass drop. I'm middle aged too and this still sounds modern to me and yes better than a lot of the liquid mixes with ads every other track. This is sweet.

old skool philly raver here...indeed! Philly EMBRACED jungle and DnB...Platinum at Fluid and Skyline were places you could here it on the reg back then. I myself am a tech-house gal, but the late 90s were generally breakbeat/jungle/DnB. and way more jazzy in general than any "EDM" sounds nowadays. Roots people!! we had em back then cuz of sampling...
