The actual last ever episode of Mini Motorways? Mini Motorways is a highway engineering puzzle game and in this video I, a highway designer of 10 years, see if my real life engineering skills help me become better at the Mini Motorways puzzle game by taking everything I have learned so far to the extreme to fix bad traffic!

About Mini Motorways:
Have you ever been stuck in traffic and wished you could do something to fix it?
In Mini Motorways, the city’s traffic problems are in your hands.
From the makers of Mini Metro, Mini Motorways is a game about drawing the roads that drive a growing city. Build a road network, one road at a time, to create a bustling metropolis. Redesign your city to keep the traffic flowing, and carefully manage upgrades to meet the changing demands. How long can you keep the cities of the world moving?
Key Features
- Draw roads in dynamic cities that grow and change - every game is unique!
- Explore stunning maps inspired by cities all around the world.
- Choose from a variety of upgrades to meet the demands of your ever-expanding road network: highways, roundabouts, and more!
- Select different colour palettes on every map including colourblind and night modes.
- Relax to a responsive soundtrack from Disasterpeace that grows along with your city.
- Unlock new maps and achievements as you achieve mastery
- Export GIFs of your city layouts to share with your friends.
- Compete against other players in Daily and Weekly Challenges.

I love how homeowners can just spin their houses round when you put a road in their backyard. Everyone thought the building code was daft to require a swiveling foundation, but it pays dividends later on.
I told them building my house on a lazy Susan would pay off in the long run

From what I recall reading about this game, demand increases linearly over time, so single color shops get harder and harder to satisfy when they are the ONLY one on the map. If you did this same strategy but opened up space for new shops in specific places, the overall demand would get spread out and you need fewer cars per location to keep the timers down. Green may need 10 cars per second, but split over three shops would mean some 2-3 houses per could keep up no problem.
Spot on
Wouldn't have been as fun though tbh
Liking so matt sees
I thought demand would get harder if they is only 2 or 1 shops on the whole map. so that is why with many shops its easy to keep the demand low for shops. You gain more points that way also.
So it's a parable about how a city based on car traffic is ultimately doomed to failure? I dig it.
Yeah other people have tried the fill in the whole map method. The problem is the game continues to pile on the growing demand into the 2 shops, so traffic will always get you. Especially with the double stores, they are worse on traffic than singles. When the demand starts building up alot, its best to delete some roads in the spot where you want a new shop to spawn and a spot nearby for new houses.
Poss could have re-routed the purples and greens into their side of the shop/s
Motorway Matt starting off with a map with the strongest shape roadways? Perfection.
Yeah
No then it should be hexagons, because hexagons are the bestagons
@@garcipat hexagons are made of the strongest shape, therefore the strongest shape prevails.
should have made a grid design, that way there are always places for houses to spawn but not big enough to let other places spawn. true they will be slow to move like that
I hope he sees this because I really want to see this in a future video.
@@mu77er51 p sure he's done a grid before
Unlimited road level would have been perfect for a grid design! Missed opportunity. (Yes I know he’s done a grid design before but he had trouble controlling where the buildings spawned because he didn’t have enough roads previously.)
the cambridge engineering course is kicking my butt rn but hearing rce say "hello fellow engineers" makes it all worth it
The mighty tarmac oceans cover all empty space, their sheer size dwarfing cars and slowing their drivers to a crawl as they shake in awe and fear of the lawless, lane-less hell of infinite tarmac. A traffic flow manager's worst nightmare, but a construction company's wet dream!

I believe whenever Matty Pattaty played Mini Motorways, he is doing it with an empty stomach. Also still waiting for the new episode of Timberborners.
@@alocalpotato *Timberborners
@@alocalpotato have you even watched any of his last 5 timberborn videos
@@alocalpotato Timberborners is a reference to a British soap opera.
haha I liked how he tarmac-ed the entire place when he could've just put straight roads everywhere
hes done that before
@@highpath4776 are you referring to the one where he "strategically" placed road to prevent shops from opening? I don't remember him placing whole lines of roads down
@@chickenflavoured_cheese472 Because they weren't unlimited roads during that game.
You did it, you invented the urban hell I always imagined!
oh god strongest shape roundabouts
Is this return of the youtube sensation Motorway Matt?
Who knows!?
Motorway Matt is back!! With his amazing road and knobs building skills. 😄😂🤣
I love how he started as a civil engineer and ended up as a gamer
RCE makes the most efficient designs, with knobs on!
Those cool road designs are awfully close to architecture. Is RCE actually an architect?
I think it was a great idea, but it was executed poorly. perhaps a better strategy would have been to build a grid, the spaces in which are too small for anything but houses to spawn.
Astronaut 1: Wait it’s all road?!
Astronaut 2: Always has been.
*Gunshot*
I'm addicted to timberborners please make another episode soon!
Ikr
Absolutely love this series, keep on giving us your top notch videos XD
Hi RCE if ur reading this this means that i love ur content . I have subbed when u had 69k subs noice
Noice!
Right from the start. Roundabouts to the space limit. Ah so good
Notification squad
Artificially fills the board with roads and then complains when houses / shops spawn in awkward places because they have to...
"I'm trying to paint it, but there's so much going on!"
Game: *has a pause button*
Blocking more buildings from spawning actually just makes the existing ones get more and more demanding and eventually the pins build up like f**king crazy, forcing a game over.
It's kinda odd, actually.
Matt is so innocent he calls them knobs and the strongest shape and it's a standard now, we love it!
I'm so happy youre back to playing this game! Hope it's back for a bit
Less than one minute into the video, we already see The Strongest Shape
Instead of noob vs engineer it should be architect vs engineer
RCE u should make a couple gold rush videos soon!!
Every time the strongest shape is made I do two things: I shake my head, and then I remind myself that I should have expected this with RCE
I'm new! I've been binging your Polybridge 2 playlist and youre fun to listen to!
RCE: what if the whole planet was a road?
California: you're hired, just make sure there's no parking
What happened to my life, I'm in school watching someone turn an entire city into a road
School sounds way better than when I was a kid!
So amarican
I would say do this: grid the map tight enough that malls can't spawn, but houses can, but in quads, bounded by 2 parallel "highways" with a gap enough between for houses. leave or open up space at each major intersection for a mall, so in the center North South East and West. I would also try roundabouts at Major intersections but nowhere else.
RCE, 29 seconds ago. Wow. Ok
With your rocket ship designs I think you and Comment Etiquette would get along great 😁

When Real Civil Engineer post a new video
Me: …
Ooooh I remember that weekly challenge! It was a nightmare.
Bro this is my spirit channel I can’t stop watching
You should have brought the purples' in from the left and green from the right. There was a lot of traffic happening in the parking lot from the green and purples fighting to get in and out
Motorway Matt is back at it!
I love mini motorways
13/09/21 oh wow, that was recordee a long time ago^^
The design at the start is strong
I LOVE THIS GAME!!!!!
Yea Matt makes much mini motorway madness.
Omg the ending was crazyyy
Yay mini motorway came back!
funny that the level where you can do anything you want is in Rio de Janeiro hahahahaha, cheers from Brazil, I love your videos ❤️
Big fan of all the references as always!
theirs scrapman music
Suggestion: Let one house spawn, then colour in everything else and clear up some spaces (for houses) when demand increases
"I finished the game!" *laughs in update* "You wot mate?"
Just so you know I got timberborne because of you and I'm probably gonna get other games you play because of you. I've developed a love hate relationship with this channel lmao
This is such a good series!
I feel like this video is the one with the most strongest shapes in your whole library.
Its really on these companies for not doing a demographic survey and seeing if they are putting a store front where they have a customer base.
ur videos feel like cat sensory videos for humans, i have never been so focused watching a video, thank you
I love your rocket shaped roads 0:50 😍😍😍😍
love your channel - don't need to add those video clips like austin powers
YES most mini motorways!
An architect would never think of this!
I enjoy this
I think your last tactic will work better IT you combine it with the grid tactic. Just create vertical or horizontal lines with one block in between.
The road pattern in the top left at 2:08 reminds me of the logo for Alien Ant Farm. Y'know, the guys that made the metal version of Smooth Criminal?
Omg, I was laughing the whole last half of the video
This is the content we need 😋
You could also have segregated near the end so that the cars would intersect less in the parking lot
yay
its all road?
-always has been
As a brasilian boi ik that if that houses werent from the same gang the population would be way smaller
People with house: well this is a nice spot to lay dow- (RCE drops a road in your backyard)
People: Motherfu-
Game: no. Turn your house
I think it expanded faster because you filled out the space.
Love it
Yay mini motorways
THAT'S GREAT MOTORWAY MATT
Can you play more fly Corp? Plese
its like a giant "origin of memes" compliation
That isn't a bad strategy but you needed to open up more space at a time along the sort of highway in TBE center so it could spawn a bunch more houses at the time.
It seems to have a sort of rate for demand to supply but idk what it is.
Hello Motorway Mat !
What's your take on bridge-tunnels? Marvel of engineering, or frankenstein abomination?
There is one on the Midland Main Line in England, where it comes out of a hillside tunnel straight onto the bridge accross the river valley
More infraspaceeee
Now they can spend all of the time they used to play on RimWorld by doing real crimes instead!
i missed this game :)
You should do the grid challenge with unlimited tiles
I want to know when RCE will stand for "Retired Civil Engineer", as he will be a full time CZcamsr! Quitting your day job at anytime Matt?
I miss the Timberborners
Timberborners: i have been away for 5 minutes!
I love you! I have been watching since 69420 subs
Idea: instead of filling it all, do stripes and some junctions when needed.
you dont need to paint it all. just make tarmac lines. House will not spawn outside of square or between squares.
it has been so long since you have played this game
You should put architects on the noob side and leave the engineers where it is
Yes
Aahhh yes... The first thing ANY engineer would do if they had unlimited resources :
0:47
0:47 ah yes, curved rockets
This would work if you made the areas near the stores tarmac less , and filled in the rest so you don’t worry about the far houses
When you continue infraspace game, im waiting for it
