This series is really good, it deserved way more buzz than it had.
Not only that it’s impressive that it did so well despite some efforts to try and kill it when it was announced and review bomb it.
I think it gave itself a lot of hurdles. First, the conceit kind of starts out subtle. It takes a few episodes to realize that, as a spy show, it's a complete farce. Because they're playing the farce so, so straight. For me, I didn't quite get what it really was until way into the series. The VIP episode, with Ron Perlman as the man-baby, finally gave it away.
But as a show that's really about how brutal relationships are for messed up people, it goes hard. It's not a fun, silly ride. I mean, it is, but it's also a strong-as-hell cup of coffee. These characters are horrible to each other, and the more you like them, the worse that makes it. They frequently do unforgivable things. But the whole point of the show is how you have to forgive the unforgivable if you want your unforgivable stuff to be forgiven. That's a tough thing for the audience to go through.
So for me, there are people I would recommend this show to, and people I would steer away from it. If you're looking for a show about basically decent people doing their best, and ending up okay, this is NOT your show. It's got none of those things. But for those who like the catharsis of seeing people struggling with their worst selves, and often failing, this is an excellent show. And there are definitely people who need that.
I was just talking with a friend about shows where everyone is basically decent, and everything ultimately works out. A part of us loves that, because it's such a relief after [*gestures vaguely at everything.] But a part of us finds it depressing to be reminded how impossible it is for the world to have nice things. "Wouldn't that be nice?" isn't the the happiest feeling I can be left with after watching TV.

Like Glover said this wasn’t going to be a project for everyone but for the ones it was for it resonated. I appreciated how messy their relationship was not because I like watching train wrecks but because it looked like people in my circle I know who I got a rare glimpse into the inner workings of their relationship. I’m glad their doing a season two
@@AT-gu1vr Yeah, I'm not into it for the trainwreck either. I'm into it for the honesty. It's a reminder why communication and introspection in relationships are so important.
they have such a great chemistry

I watched the whole season twice and then my favorite episodes a 3rd/4th time...and i was so sold on their chemistry...thats the MARROW of the show for me 👌🏾👌🏾💎
My favourite episodes were the one in Italy I think it was, where they protect the older man who behaves like a child, and the couples therapy one. I've rewatched them so many times

The relationship in mr and mrs smith was so realistic but also so cute at the same time, i loved it.
Some peoples attitude about this show is mind boggling. It gets dogged for being a remake, for casting POC as the leads, and for NOT being a spy show first.
I loved Mr and Mrs Smith. My favorite of the year and it doesn't get the credit it deserves. It's so well thought out in what it wanted to convey...which to some disappointment is NOT the spy aspect of the show. I honestly love that it focuses on the relationship between John and Jane more than it cares about being a spy show, and actively uses the spy trope to further the development of their relationship.
In the end, the chemistry between the two leads is the make or break of this show. If you don't buy into them, you won't buy into this show. Despite everything else being really well done, these two have to work and luckily they work really well.
I hope season 2 can bring the same thought and care that season one did.
It really was just a loud minority hating the diversity. Nobody cares THAT much about the original movie 😂
Phenomenal show. Would love to see directors cut of the finale.
One of the best qualities of this show was the patient they exhibited in telling the story of Jane and John. It showed a real respect for the audience.

This show was sooooo damn good. I couldn't stop watching it. Like the ultimate kickass crazy love. The most goofy yet hot people. Donald is a true talented king, love him.

Man I hate that Donald Glover’s projects often get overlooked and under-appreciated by big audiences. Atlanta was being treated like the odd step child on FX to Dave. And with his music, his biggest hit to date is “This is America” which is probably his least personal record… I wonder why audiences don’t connect with him as much as his fans do…😢
I cried so much at that finale, man. The way they were vulnerable to each other really affected me in some strange way.

Such a great season of TV. Surprising, poignant, funny and _so_ real.
(I found the ending satisfying and beautiful as is _and_ generally really enjoy anthology style shows but at least a part of me would also be totally fine if we saw these Smiths again in S2. Just sayin' :)
