@@adrianD4 a great one at that, shame many missed the opportunity to try it out at that point. Aliens were the victim of random events same way as human player which made some hilarious situations like them being locked down due to soem asteroid destorying all their resource gathering facilities... ah, good times, too bad many hilarious and fun things like that were patched out.
I'm in the "I only like the early game" camp, the space stuff is when I lose interest.

How so? Gaming is dying more and more each year. Is it a good year for strategy that TW Warhammer raises DLC prices while offering us empty DLCs? or that Paradox became even greedier? That Stellaris is still unplayable cause it cant handle the pop?
Otherwise what other game is there - ah yes, noone and the upcoming ones here? Nothing that looks like it will be that great, bunch of stuff in EA too with meh reviews possibly done next decade lol
@@PuellaMagiHomuraAkemi Gaming is dying? You mentioned like a few games and Paradox which is infamous for DLC. Try to remember the past more objectively. It seems you've forgotten ET, Shaq Fu, and Trespasser. You remember StarCraft but no one remembers WarBreeds. Looking back you only remember the best, while looking forward you see everything. This is why we have sayings like 'rose tinted glasses' when it comes to nostalgia, it's easy to forget all the bad of the past.
Gaming now is great. Baldur's Gate 3 is the best RPG we've had in ages. Fun indie games are releasing like Lethal Company. Doom returned FPS to being exiting and fast-paced after a decade of people complaining about FPS sucking. Even city-building came back into style and has games like Frostpunk and Against The Storm blowing up. And even Age of Empires 4 can reach and stay in the top 100 most played games on Steam. If you look for the good you'll find it. If you look for bad it's all you'll see.
Sticking just to strategy games, let's judge Stormgate and Homeworld 3, both next month, and see if all the hype was worth it. Meanwhile strategy games that people are loving recently are Mechabellum, Age of Wonders 4, Stronghold Definitive Edition, Shadow Gambit, Jagged Alliance 3, and personally I think Great War Western Front was pretty good if you're into that kind of strategy game.

Yeah, gaming now is great having every game buggy and unfinished on release or paying 60€ to be a beta tester so you can pay even more in DLCs for a finished product after a year or two. Truly the pinnacle of gaming
It has little to do with nostalgia, its just how gaming is nowadays. Darktide? Unplayable for a year. Warhammer 3? Utter trash for a year and now they charge like crazy for minimum DLCs, I could go on like this about so many games.
Cyberscam? has a DLC now yet is still not the way they orignally promised. Dont let me go on about Starfield lol
Lords of the Fallen? Famous streamer starts it and it insta-crashes on intro lmao yeah gaming is totally not dead xD God of War? All woke with hidden loading times in that you do nothing. Wowie.
@@PuellaMagiHomuraAkemi I play 90s games regularly, they're riddled with bugs. Caesar 3 has numerous game breaking bugs. Trespasser was labelled "The worst game of 1998". Shaq Fu was the most disappointing game of the decade. And in the early 90s some games were selling for $200! Because the idea of $30 or $60 standard prices didn't exist yet. We weren't even beta testers back then, we just bought broken games and they would never be patched ever. Was that the pinnacle of gaming?
You keep listing bad games. I keep listing good games. Maybe play the good games? The way you're talking is like if it's 1998 and you're all, "WarBreeds is hot trash! And have you seen 7th Legion? Man that looks outdated on release day. And what about Outpost? The game is so incomplete, the manual describes game mechanics that don't even exist in game! Gaming is dead."
Why are you buying Paradox games if you hate DLC?... Lords of the Fallen?... The game with mixed reviewed on Steam? Darktide too. Why did you buy that? Please explain why you keep buying games with mixed reviews and then hating them?...
Do you even remember the 90s? They just shovelled marketing at you and because no one could know anything about the game until they buy it everyone was constantly getting scammed. The box art never represented gameplay, bugs would never be patched because there were no patches at all, and there was no way to know what the game was until you booted it up. Today you SEE all the bad stuff BEFORE you buy it. Steam user reviews, CZcamsr coverage, more game outlets than ever reviewing games.

Actually Grand Tactician Civil War is already in early access since late 2023 outside of Steam... I've been playing it for quite a bit, and it is both challenging and really good, even though it isn't fully completed
King's Orders looks interesting. IMHO too many games give you the God's eye view of the game.

Yeah Paradox really dominated this genre. Oddly no grand strategy from them this year as they're busy with CS2 then Millennia in the 4X genre.
Will give Paradox kudo's though as with dlc content and packages they add too their games for many years unlike many studios.
I still find HOI4 to be one of the best and most complex games I have ever attempted to play.
Not for the faint of heart due to the enormous learning curve but a game that offers 1000's of hours in replay ability and does not keep a player locked into any one style of play or storyline.

There isn't even any proper gameplay footage yet, so I can only guess there are other maps or the map isn't ready. It's what the devs say they're doing though.
Gilded Age could force Paradox to ramp up the DLC development for Victoria 3.

Guilded destinies seems promising to the point where it might actually destroy victoria 3. Eu4 and even hoi4 economy mods.
Renaissance looks promicing. If the gameplay is half as good as the graphics are, it will be the strategy game of the year.
The developer been using same game engine since probably 2013. So it wont be nice looking up close. They just throw up same game very year, with no innovation. Check all their games. They all look exactly the same with the same buggy engine. Its a cash grab.
King's orders, the concept sounds brilliant and immersive... but i think gameplay-wise it just wont be that engaging.. Sometimes devs need to compromise a but the realism aspect in order to make the game more fun. For example, imagine if the devs in Assassins Creed Black flag, actually made the ships physics realistic.. it would mean extremely slow ship movements, reload, gameplay.. it would kill the fun and immersion.

Well marketing and PR is part of games development. It was announced after this video, so I couldn't find it for this and I saw no news about an upcoming announcement. The dev update videos on the CZcams channel are getting good views, but it's essentially just being promoted to the existing subscriber base. If the dev wants to market it to new people there are things that can be done but I haven't seen any of that yet.
Posting updates on the Steam page would help, right now the Steam page has been dead since the announcement. Sending out PR emails to media and creators can be done. Having a presskit, that would be useful. They're even using an old school forum that doesn't display properly on mobile for the community right now, which I get being an old school gamer myself but if you want something to break the internet you have to cater to the mainstream.

Have three games in early access on Steam. Two not yet done for at least a year, and one abandoned after multiple years. It's getting harder to make that plunge. But two out of three is not bad, if we look at it as gambling. 😛
Yeah generally you shouldn't jump into an early access game unless you can get your value back immediately. It should be good enough to play right now, otherwise it's more of a Kickstarter than early access.

Well, depending on how you see it, you could call Manor Lords a Grand Strategy Game. True , you start small but screenshots show a quite big map.

if there was a super simpel hexagon game for everyone that doesn't have a book or countless resources but focuses on strategy it would do so well. i mean look at chess, checkers, connect 4. those games do so well. i am searching for a hexagon game that does focus on food or armies but not indepth. its like watching an anime which start out hot and end up getting side tracked and gets boring. kinda like an early catan game or risk. but a bigger map scale like tripple sized of risk or double. risk is so close to fun im looking for like civilization 6 but its to tedious and learning yet not so simple. kinda like the mobile conquering game but a lot quicker. im just looking for chess not a book. lol if people know what i mean. a game that can play for a few hours but can be fun to play again.

All good and all, and apropos with the genre, the game descriptions all sound ambitious with one exception: "Espiocracy" will no doubt suck as its evident in the title. The people who thought that was a good name are the same people leading the dev of the game.

Number 6 looks like yet another Geopolitical Simulator (that series). And looking at how janky it looks, I can only imagine the quality. I remember the game being extremely glitchy.

Terra Invicta has several highlights, like being unique in many aspects and great narrative. Definitely recommend.
However, when i played it, it still had many flaws, including UI, AI, bugs and endless grinding in the endgame. (Why you so demanding, Academy!?) Anyone knows if there's been some real improvement?
I don't know, but commenting here to make sure your question is favored by the algorithm.
I find the whole game too grindy. The game unfolds over decades but a single year can take a couple of hours to play through and then you might find out that the game was won or lost years ago by some action you weren't even aware of.

Don't get me started on the tech tree. I've seen all the work people have put into proving that pretty much 80% of the techs are worthless.
And then there's the AI which decides to force research for things like travelling to the Outer Planets when you're barely in the position to go to Mars.

Ultimate Generals: American Revolution is the one I'm most looking forward too. History has long been a hobby of mine with 18th and 19th Century America my main focus and I had a lot of fun with the two US Civil War focused Ultimate Generals games. Plus I've always wish for more American Revolution strategy and tactics games.
After that Terra Invicta and Fragile Existence are my next priorities of those listed. I've been a fan of sci fi and sci fi strategy games as long as i can remember so those look very fun. Fragile Existence has a very Battlestar Galactica with the player in Adama's role or both Adama's role and Roslin's role depending on which version we are talking about feel to me. And Terra Invicta looks like the early stages will be similar to a blend of X-Com and Hearts of Iron while the latter stages bring more Master of orion or Space Empires into it. All franchises I adore.
I really want to play one of these games on PS4 but none of them none of them none of them at all or on the PS4

That's in the city building list, the RTS list, and will be in the general strategy list. It's not really labelled a grand strategy much.

@@kalebjohns7715 No it's okay, it's perfectly reasonable. For these lists, to try and keep everyone in the loop, I have a 3-4 year cutoff for early access, so any game that has been in early access for too long I count as 'released' and I stop listing it.

Cell phone games look amazing now, so you're gonna have to be more specific. If you mention a game, I can give you some insight. Sometimes it's budget constraints, sometimes it's indie and there's no money for an artist, sometimes it's a deliberate choice, sometimes it's actually a well liked art style that sells.
