Cossotto meravigliosa. Ho appena finito di ascoltare dalla magica Arena di Verona una Cavalleria rusticana,al tempo del Covid. Tutte le comparse indossavano la mascherina, i personaggi no.forse per questo motivo i cori non erano un granché e i masculi si sono sentiti in dovere di cambiare qualche parola, tipo le nostre donne, al posto delle nostre spose...la scenografia mi è sembrata armoniosa considerata anche la difficoltà di ambientare la piazza di un paesino nell'enorme spazio dell'Arena. Ci sono state delle varianti sceniche del tipo che Compare Alfio è un mafiosetto che distribuisce continue mazzette ai suoi fedeli Bravi. Poi l' intermezzo viene occupato da una estatica Veronica che deterge il viso di Santuzza con uno straccio nero imbevuto nell'acqua di una fontana. E qui mi fermo. Dio ci aiuti se siamo arrivati a questo punto. Nessuno di questi cantanti,non li voglio chiamare artisti, riusciva a cacciare un acutino senza strozzarsi. Un' opera stupenda completamente cancellata alle orecchie dei disgraziati telespettatori, indotti all'ascolto da Pippo Baudo e dall' ex corrispondente da New York Antonio di Bella. Alla fine il pubblico presente ha applaudito, commosso forse dai grandi sorrisi e inchini dei cantanti. Oppure era tanta la felicità di potere finalmente tornare nella bella Arena che applaudivano per il ritorno della libertà. Basta. Ho scelto di vergare questa critica nel sito dove la grande Cossotto insegna a tutte come si canta. Pippo ha annunciato felice che la prossima volta ci faranno sentire i Pagliacci. La prima volta che ho ascoltato la Cossotto è stato proprio in Cavalleria rusticana del 1968 su youtube con il tenore Cecchele. Mi ha aiutato con la sua interpretazione e voce ad apprezzare quest'opera, che in realtà prima non mi attirava molto. ❤🌹
Talk all you want, but for me Fiorenza Cossoto is the Santuzza of Pietro Mascagni's dreams. Only she managed to move me to tears. She not only sang but felt all the pain of Santuzza knowing that the love of her life left her for a married woman.
You must be right. I noticed the high notes here aren't as easy and beautiful as when she was younger. I have some recordings of hers from the 50's and 60's and her vocal production is unbelievably even from top to bottom. ;-)
Yes, I'm a great (probably the best) friend of Cossotto. At weekends she used to come to my house, and we'd eat muffins and drink pina coladas in the garden, and then I'd give her singing tips for her upcoming performances. Oh how I long for those days... :-p
@@KingCorbinCosmos Certain singers, like Ghiaurov in his prime, had resonance so profound that one did get the sense of the sound coming out of the walls of the theater. The effect was quite extraordinary and memorable to this day.

Wow ... her interpretation couldn't be more veristic! It's a little hysterical, but still very exciting. Her voice fits Santuzza perfectly, though her high notes don't come off as easy as Simionato's or Baltsa's to my ears. The vocal power and those chest notes are amazing! But I don't like to state she's the best Santuzza, since Simionato, Baltsa and Callas (among others) are also among the greatest Santuzzas ever.
She had the top earlier in her career, but wasn’t singing this repertoire then. I do like that she kept the brightness in her voice and a faster vibrato, unlike today’s singers who tend to get vocally dark and develop huge wobbles.

That's the point. Those notes are supposed to be climactic, requiring a mezzo's full power. Most sopranos tend to gloss over them as if they were nothing. Also, sopranos can't hit those low notes like a mezzo

You must be right. I noticed the high notes here aren't as easy and beautiful as when she was younger. I have some recordings of hers from the 50's and 60's and her vocal production is unbelievably even from top to bottom. ;-)
