Being a citizen of the European Union means that many aspects of our lives are regulated by a weird entity. It feels like a huge bureaucracy is making decisions over our heads. How democratic is the EU really and does your vote actually affect anything?

Haven't laughed in a while at such a good comment
"Democracy is annoying, complucated, and often pretty boring."
This is why a nation needs both a minimum of education in its population, and a national spirit in its population thats inherantly active in politics.
As a citizen of a democracy, you have to by nature have a desire and will to take part in politics. Large and small.
And all citizens gave to.
If you dont, what you have is a weak foundation for your democracy.
This is why the usa is questionably democratic. Its citizens didnt feel the desire to take part in politics. Only to not have their lives impeded by rulers. So it became more oligarcic then drmocratic. And now its citizens feel they have no powrr, reducing their desire to take part in politics more.
Switzerland meanwhile has the directest democracy because over its 800 year existance, taking part in your nation's existance was a core part of its identity. And it still is.
The fact is that democracy is flawed at its core. Most people under democracy don't even understand what their vote means, let alone voting for the best options, which often doesn't exist. This means democracy is among the most flawed political systems, along with communism and socialism. Until we let only the people who know what they are talking about decide for the rest, we will have this god damn fucking shit show that we have now.
We are a republic. Check your own minimal education.
Or we could just do away with the wild experiment all together.

Ok but like birds flying around in their little seat thingys are the cutest thing ever.
I'm French, studied the European Union politics and laws at university... the pros vastly outweigh the cons. But yes its very complicated.
As a uninformed foreigner (South African) who is curious, could you give some examples of the good and bad, I keep on hearing on the internet people declaring the EU to be hell and such while never really delving into it much (other than saying non-informative sentences like "EU is the 4th Reich" and such)
@@dirkbrand9859 Pros:
- Freedom of travel and work between member states (For example: I can work in Germany while living in the Netherlands, which I plan on doing later)
- Easier trade between nations and easier ways to get trade treaties between other countries
- Peace. Europe is a continent that has been in a lot of wars and both of the world wars. The EU prevents this from happening again, because we're all technically united now
Cons:
- It's rather undemocratic. I can vote on the European parliament, but not the council of Europe or anything else. Those are selected by every country's government so you don't have a say in that
- It's kind of weak. On the world stage, the EU is rather weak. They're too scared about doing something about Russia, because then they'll increase gas prices and stuff
- We, the people who live in the EU, don't really know what goes on there. The politicians aren't well known and it has not even the slightest form of a direct democracy. If we really demand something, there's no way to reach one of the politicians to actually get the message through as far as I'm aware. We did try it and succeeded one time though
Conclusion: Daniel is correct and the pros greatly outweigh the cons and because of that I'm very pro-EU/Eurofederalist

this video makes speaks so highly of it, bu honstly its EU got a big alot of problems to try an over come.
gluing people together that have been fighting bloody wars since the beginning of civilization. wit region and national values that have noting but spite for one another.
but we have come a long way for sure.
They also don't have to register lobbyists, which is kind of odd for a supposedly progressive group of nations.
@@yandere1641 But Europe is not just one or three nations. That will stoke more anger.
This is why Brexit is such a shit show, because even the politicians don’t fully understand what’s happening and yet expected the general public to be able to come to a rational conclusion. Most people have voted against there own interest due to lack of or misinformation
please keep doing Adventure Times references, you make me so happy
Could you tell me the reference?
Nvm, I just saw it at 5:40.
2:12 the shared bubble between Poland and Germany made me scoff a little, considering the hostility some people have towards the other country
Irish exit: leaving without saying goodbye
British exit: saying goodbye without leaving
Edit: why the likes this is a terrible meme
I have a feeling someone that isnt European is controlling the country?
I mean, as an Irish citizen over here, the IREXIT party doesn’t get that much of a support. About ~ 90% of the country supports the EU.
@Blake Pierce An Irish Exit is a wellknown thing. It's the act of leaving a party or gathering without telling anyone, just disappearing.
Guys chill out please
I don’t think Ireland has autism
Hey Kurzgesagt people, can you please make a video explaining the 5g technology and what all the controversy is about? I am having a hard time finding reliable sources.
Basically there are two bodies, one is connected to WHO and business but ignores claims of health hazards and one is independent but is seen as hysterical.
You should watch the dave2d video about the Samsung s10 5g
If they do make a video about this, it would take weeks, months, or even years.
@@masterfish4343 Almost everything Kurzgesagt does takes several weeks because of their standard of quality, so saying this doesn't really help much. If you're discouraging Kurzgesagt from going into this topic because of how long it'll take, then that's a dumb argument, considering they've done videos that have taken years to complete before.
I've been interested in this for a while
I love how in 2:02 UK just leaves going far away
hilarious how the birds use flying machines to fly despite you know, being birds
Haha.
I would like the EU better if it was run by birds.
Not the ultra leftist birds
Aidid Rashed Efat and not ultra rightist ones either...
It is they are called tits!
@@dictatoraladeen1604 Centrist birds should be in power
@T C ikr *slight pride*
When you're not even from eu.
But still watches because its kurzgesagt
Well it's good if people outside the EU still understand how it works... The amount of brick head Americans I see who have no idea what is going on baffles me :D
@@pasta248 Even here in the comments, I see tons of people blurting nonsense. It's as if those people didn't even watch the video.
@@pasta248 dude most Europeans don't even understand the EU
@@Swedish_Remixer well that's vague. Much like every countries politics affect the rest of the world.
True dude, but it's informing for us how the EU do and how it does
4:20 love the tierzoo Easteegg
Voting is important !
I was watching the video without audio and it just looks like bird politics
Thumbs up for your display pic!

0:49: when you realize the ducks flying into space are actually tubes, not ducks
I see that Kurzgesagt has tried to break this down as simple as possible, but I still will need to watch it few more times
