Sounds great with lots of energy.
It truly is the best music in the world ay!
Absolutely! Grinspoon are also on my list for that but different style
Finally the world's seeing what we've known for over 40 years 🙌
Cold Chisel actually has two lead singers, Jimmy Barnes and Ian Moss (the lead guitarist). The harmonica player, David Blight, is a guest performer who joined the band often for live shows but was not an official member of the band. All members of the band wrote songs however, the piano/keyboard player, Don Walker is recognised as one of Australia's greatest songwriters.
accurately and concisely put 👍
Don Walker....an applied physicist. Worked at the Woomera Rocket Range. A literal Rocket Scientist. One hell of a pianist, and he can sure write the HELL out of a song.
Your smile when they all came in says it all. Real music from the soul.
Going to the pubs on a Saturday night in Melbourne to see Cold Chisel,AC DC, INXS and Midnight Oil was the soundtrack of my early life. Great memories, great bands.
Yess!! They don’t get much better than this! Aussie rock and soul legends! Vocals here by Ian Moss and Jimmy Barnes. No guest singers. The second guy Jimmy Barnes is just as much the lead singer of the band as the first guy if not more so. Such a great great band hope you do more. There’s no American voice or American acting going on here at all. You just don’t really pick up accents in songs. Jimmy Barnes actually has a Scottish accent.
Ahhhh Okay. I first thought he was from New Jersey like Bruce Springsteen.

Thanks for liking Aussie music brother👍 respect from Australia 🤟👍🤗
Rock on!😎
The greatest Aussie band of all time......
Ian Moss the singer/guitarist is from outback Australia, a town named Alice Springs. Just about in the heart of Australia. He told the audience at a recent solo gog that this song is about going home to Alice Springs which has a river called Todd River which doe not flow often as its in the middle of the desert. He said he told his parents when he returned home after some touring about the song but was not happy using Todd River so looked on a map of Australia and found a place named Bow River.
Jim Barnes the other vocalist was born in Glasgow Scotland and immigrated to Australia at age 5 and was brought up in industrial town named Elizabeth (my former home town and I guess similar to NJ). He has written extensively about the hardship of his upbringing and his life in general in a few books. Cold Chisel are my favourite Aussie band even surpassing AC/DC despite having limited commercial success outside of Australia. Cold Chisel are the soundtrack of my life. I enjoyed your review mate.
Thanks for the information.
Just finished reading Working Class Boy. It's brutal, but I loved it. Just about to start Working Class Man. Thanks for the info
@@kellyyoung5353 Hi Kelly, thankfully my experience was very different from Jim's. We lived on the edge of town, surrounded by farm land, mixed farms, grapes, almonds, wheat. Good sporting club run by people wanting you to better yourself as a person. Two of our neighbours attended Oxford and Cambridge Universities and one of their sons is now a Professor of genetic engineering. Attended the same school as Jim. That was no guest singer. That was Aussie icon Jimmy Barnes, lead singer of Cold Chisel. It just so happened that Ian Moss took the lead on this one.
I see that. Also Jimmy was not in the original line up but brought on later.
@@TheBlueRage Jimmy is on stage in the opening frames of the clip.
Blues is originally black peoples music originating from slavery times. That's American so I guess that's why everybody sings blues with an American accent.
Cheers!
@@micko11154 Also Irish roots as well, no secret that downtrodden people used song to lift their spirits or in times of grief. Blues is a combination of a lot of traditional music forms. @@TheBlueRage they went to the US but didn't like the way the industry was run so like good Aussie boys they told the record executives to f off then came home and wrote "You've got nothing I want"" brilliant rock track
Love Cold Chisel, what other the band out there had two voices like Ian and Jimmy. Jimmy Barnes and John Farnham duetting together with ‘Something is wrong with my baby’ is also off the charts, something not to be missed. Jimmy Barnes and John Farnham are Aussie legends.
Greatest Ozzie Pub Band performance I have seen....🇦🇺
Chisel actually did have a go at breaking into the US market in 1981, but they were comprehensively d*cked around by their American record company. So they came home and wrote 'You got nothing I want' and continued blasting the roof off of every venue they played in Australia for the next couple of years.
And Barnesy was nominally their lead singer. It just so happens that Ian Moss also has a great voice and was joint vocalist on some of their better stuff. Also, Don Walker on keys was the lyricist for a lot of their stuff. If Barnesy was the balls of the operation, Don Walker was the heart.
One of Australia's greatest bands!!!!!
Hey Doc, these guys tried to break in the USA but wouldn’t bow to corporate music crap and told them to stick it where the sun don’t shine. They wrote a great Fyou song to the industry called “you got nothing I want” worth checking out

Yeah, the boys had a run-in with a Yank music producer, Marty Schwartz. I recently read in a book that after a gig in the States Prestwich had Schwartz by the throat against the dressing room wall, Barnsey threw Prestwich away and started on Schwartz himself 😆. Moral of the story......don't fk with Chisel.
The last time I saw Chisel, right when the bushfire were annihilating us, Barnsey mentioned Schwartz and the American music industry, then the boys flew into You Got Nothing I Want. Ripping gig!!

Thanks for the awesome reaction to Australian pub rock band Cold Chisel. Both their lead singers Ian Moss and Jimmy Barnes compliment each other’s styles, combined with the awesome band doing their craft with the musical instruments it’s an amazing sound. Every Australian loves this song , even deaf Australians.
Welcome to Australia 🇦🇺 brother.
Yes - the American accent seems to be natural when singing. There are some singers who strongly represent the Australian accent in their singing, but it's more common not to have much of an accent when singing, or use some American accent stylings - probably just because that's the sound we're all familiar with. It's a similar thing for bands from the UK, most of the time you either can't hear their accent, or they sound slightly American. Of course there are many others who do sing with a strong accent.
Nice one Ron. Glad to see your enjoyment of a another great Aussie band. Cheers from Sydney, AU.
We have the best live bands in the world, bar none.
It's because of Australian pub rock, there is nothing like it anywhere in the world. There's a saying and a trueism, the 50s was the American decade, the 60s the English tried it, in the 70s Australia looked at what was happening and we thought....how quaint....this is how it's done.. Aussie pub rock at it's best.
Jimmy Barnes is the best male white soul singer in history IMO. His range is impeccable
Thanks for sharing.
Doc this was recorded in 1981 when they came back from touring the U.S and it is off the album Circus Animals.
Raised on Jimmy here!
they aren't singing with an American voice, they are singing in English, the issue lays in Americans think English is American
I have to disagree. The British English is so different when spoken amongst themselves that when I =first heard it in Spain on vacation I asked if they were French. The Brits can tone it down like for movies etc to where their English is understood. The Beatles sing in that tone down accent. Listen to when they talk...you have to listen closely or Paul on interviews really tone down the speech for clarity. I do the same bc of the CC when I am speaking to my non-English speaking. The Close Caption is way off.
@@TheBlueRage you are not even referring to the point i was making. My point was referring to when people sing, they predominatly lose their native accent. The guy i was addressing stated that they are singing American to which my response was, no they are singing in English

if you talk about the best Aussie band ever Chisel would pretty much come out on top, even though ACDC is huge Chisel will pretty much get the win from us at least
WAIT....WHAT? AC\DC is not an American band?!?!?!?!?! No joking. I just googled it "AC/DC are an Australian rock band formed in Sydney in 1973 by Scottish-born brothers Malcolm and Angus Young. Their music has been variously described as hard rock, blues rock, and heavy metal, but the band themselves call it simply "rock and roll"." Although, I am pretty sure I heard their music, I always thought they were Americans. AC\DC is one of those household names that you hear about a lot but never listened to them. Sort of hearing about Drake but never listening to his music.
Such a great song, tempo changes, blues, rock, it just transports you.. the harmonica!
Dr Kapp made a good point.
Most songs have NO accent, although some singers do.
And yes, despite growing up in Australia Jimmie still has a very strong Scots accent and more...... GLASWEGIAN I think.
Also.......rock, blues and Jazz are all American, they are not European or Asian.
Pop is more universal but most pop we know and hear is also American.

That wasn't a guest singer that was the legendary Jimmy Barnes. The lead singer of Cold Chisel. Ian Moss does take the lead on a few songs tho. Not sure I would call Ian a back up singer either, maybe joint lead singers as both are amazing. Ian Moss main claim to fame is as a killer Guitarist.

The American 'Blues' has had a massive influence on musicians worldwide, including 'The Beatles' and 'The Rolling Stones'. And of course, Australian musicians. The music from 'The Deep South', in my opinion, forms the base of many modern 'Rock 'N' Roll' successes. When young kids who aspired to be great musicians in the 1960's first leant their trade, it from Afro-American geniuses. Their appetite for such music was insatiable.
We have slightly different accents in Australia we don't all sound the same. We have the Paul Hogan (Crocodile Dundee) accent which is a very strong sounding accent but we also have softer sounding accents aswell that differ from State to State. Ian Moss the lead singer in this song was singing in an Australian accent Jimmy Barnes has a unique sound as he was born in Scotland and came to Australia when he was 10year's old I think, so he has an Australian and Scottish accent. Keith urban sings with an American accent because he sings Country and Western and caters to American's we don't have a big country and Western scene in Australia.
I see your point.

that song gets a slow start but gets big and the harmonica owned this .
Try 'when the war is over' from the same reunion concert.

Always good to see reactions to one of our most beloved bands. Way back in the early days of rock, a lot of Australians had an inferiority complex, so they didn't believe in their fellow Aussies. As a result, a lot of people sang with American accents, to fool the audience and hopefully get noticed elsewhere, specially America. In the film world, Americans couldn't understand the Australian accent and to get a job, they had to speak with an American accent. Later, in the music world, it just became a habit. But don't ask me what the English's excuse is 🤣.
Anyway, Ian Moss the guitarist, is the singer and writer of this song. Jimmy Barnes is the main lead singer, in this case doing back ups. I think that's David Blight on harmonica and has always played at their concerts, but not a member. Don Walker, most prolific song writer of the band and keyboards, Phil Small on bass and Steven Prestwich is the drummer, who is sadly missed RIP.
They've all written songs, but Jimmy, Ian and Don have pursued solo careers, but the band still gets together and make new albums and tour, the last of which started near the end of 2019 and finished early 2020.
Thanks for the historical information.
@@TheBlueRage You're welcome, I'm happy to talk about cold chisel particularly, any time. But have been a long time advocate for Australian music and if you're interested in it's history, you might like to start with our earliest rock idol Johnny O'Keefe. Don Walker never received the credit he deserved as probably one of Australia's best song writers.
The name cold chisel comes from its use by blacksmiths to cut metal while it was cold as compared to other tools they used to cut hot metal. Because cold chisels are used to form metal, they have a less-acute angle to the sharp portion of the blade than a woodworking chisel. Also, been rocking Australia since the mid 1970's. Enjoy diving down their rabbit hole.

It's not that people sound American when they sing! It's that accents generally disappear when singing. Even for Americans, but you might assume it sounds American because it's familiar to you. For example, I can't usually tell where singers are from just by listening and they certainly don't sound American to me. I'd say most sound kind of Australian to me. However, some artists do choose to include their accent in their music for stylistic reasons, though this isn't the norm.
Check out an Aussie band called Noiseworks.
There are numerous Australian bands that sing in Australian accents. You just haven't discovered them yet.

Singing is its own form of accent. No matter where you are from and what style you sing we all sound the same. The only thing that changes is the style of music.
If you can hear an accent when someone ‘sings’ it is because they will be talking in tune. Not truly singing
And you trying to figure out the style of music? That’s Aussie rock right there.

The boys in good old usa music don't like that they want control our guy give them the finger and stay home and make a good living
I figured that out after the reaction. I had to go to the wiki page.
No guest singer, but a guest harmonica player
Thanks for the information. Awesome band.
