- This is a video of how I fixed my broken sun visor in my 2020 Jeep Gladiator. I hope this helps others save money and time. It’s an easy fix. Won’t cost you very much at all. What I did makes my sun visor work like it was better than brand new. Thank you all for watching.

You're doing many Jeep lovers/owners a great service, and for that, I say that you are both a scholar and a gentleman.
I appreciate your kind words. Thank you!! Always good to help a fellow Jeep owner!!
Just broke mine today...I was in total panick mode as my warranty just ran out...thanks bud, your a life saver.
You are welcome. Thank you for watching my video. I hope you get it repaired soon. Just to let you know. Mine is still working like new to this day. No issues.
These directions were perfect, thank you! I modified your technique a little bit, though. I used a hacksaw to shorten the plastic hole to allow the metal piece to protrude out the other side so the star washer would catch. I placed the washer by using a hammer on an open ended wrench to hold the washer in place during impact. I rotated the wrench a few times to fully seat the washer. I would have never even tried this repair except for your GREAT video. Thanks again!!!
Thank you! I appreciate your kind words! Glad this video helped you out. Mine is still working great to this day! Better than new!
Hacksaw? Good idea! I already wrote I'll use an open end wrench.
Same here on the hacksaw method. I cut it flush and even had to dremel just a little more material to ensure the star washer would grip
I used a saw for the same purpose.
I really appreciated your repair work around video. It saved me a lot of money. Thank you!😊
You are most welcome. Thanks for watching. Mine is working perfectly still to this very day!
Thanks for showing us how to fix the visor.
Thank you for watching my video. Just so you know, mine still works like new to this day. No issues with this fix.
I performed the fix today. The video was very thorough and provided all of the detail needed. I read another comment that a user had used a hacksaw to shorten the plastic piece that the post from the visor slides through. I used my oscillating saw to shorten the plastic piece. I cut it off flush with the reinforcing webbing. It cut like butter and provided a nice flat surface. This allowed the steel post from the visor to extend far enough to easily attach the push nut. To attach the push nut used a socket. To do this slide the the wire through the socket before you reattach the clip. push down on the socket to squeeze the push nut until it full seats against the plastic trim piece. Thanks again for the great video!
Thanks for watching. Thank you also for the detailed way that you preformed the fix! Excellent! Just so you know, mine is still working like new to this day!
Thanks so much for sharing this fix. I was just getting ready to pay the dealer almost $300 to repair it. Now I can get rid of the bungees holding my visor up!!
Awesome! Glad I saved you a bunch of money. Just to let you know, my repair job is still holding up like new! Thanks for watching and commenting.
Excellent video! Thank you so much for filming the very detailed steps in disassembling, fixing, and reassembling the visor.
You are most welcome. Thank you very much for your comment and watching my video.
My driver’s side broke. So I guess it can happen to either. Getting ready to try and fix. Thanks for the video.
You are welcome. I’m sure you will be able to fix it. Mine is still working like new to the day.
Big Thumbs up, mine was driver side! Repaired like you suggested, "Thank you Sir"!!! I took some off the top shoulder the washer rests on and added a bit of silicone.
Very good ! I’m glad this video is helping my fellow Jeep owners! 👋
Fixed the visor on my wife's 2018 Wrangler. Thanks for the video!
Awesome, you are welcome. Thanks for watching my video!
This video worked great for my 2019 JL Wrangler 2-door. The only difference was a 3rd (yellow) wire in the left hole. I used the red axle nuts that Richard S. mentioned in the comments. I used a Dremel to cut a circular groove around the silver metal piece to give the axle nut teeth something to grab. Snug and strong now. Thanks for video.
Glad it helped! Along with my video and the great information you provided will help others if this happens to them! Thanks for watching and commenting. Mine still works flawlessly to this day!
Excellent video. You could not have made this job any more simple. Thank you for your Awesomeness 🤘😎
Appreciate that my friend. Thank you for your kind words. Also for watching my video. 🤝
The same happened to my in both side. I used axle nuts, filled the end and it worked great. Thanks for the wonderful idea. 👍👍👍
Glad you figured out a way to fix yours! Thank you! Thanks also for commenting and watching!!
Hi, can you tell me what an axle nut is and where I can get it? It sounds like an improvement over the star nut. When I searched it, it only found giant axle nuts for cars. I assume it’s a collar with a hex nut to tighten onto the post? Thanks
So I answered my questions via a trip to a specialty hardware store. The press nut was called a bolt retainer and the axle nuts were like caps, but I found something much stronger, shaft collars. The M8 size was too small for the solid shaft collar with set screw, but the M8 Double Split Shaft Collar was perfect, with 2 tightening screws that allow the collar to widen enough to fit over the metal shaft. P.s. I did have to trim some plastic off of the plastic piece on the shaft, and I also trimmed off the plastic from the visor mounting bracket, both necessary to have enough of the stainless shaft protruding to place the shaft collar. This visor will never fall off! Thanks for the great video and tip!
Dude! You absolutely saved me! Mine went at 18k miles. THANK YOU!!!
Awesome glad my video helped. Thanks for watching!!
My driver side broke. Thank you for the video
You are very welcome.
Same thing just happened to my gladiator, was gnna ask the dealership next week when i take it in for an oil change if it’s covered under warranty but seeing this I’ll just fix it myself…. Thanks!!!
It works great. Mine is still working better than new to this day.
100% perfect fix! Thanks so much. One small suggestion: I reamed out the hole with a round rasp to fit the push nut without having to cut anything. I also used a small socket (fed the cabling through it first) to set the push nut evenly. FYI: I also bought an extra push nut for likely inevitable break on the other side.
Awesome advice! Thank you for watching my video. Glad it was helpful! I appreciate your comment and watch time.
Thank u!! I showed my husband ur video and he just fixed mine ❤️
Totally awesome. Thanks for commenting and watching.
Thank you very much for posting how to fix the visor. Your video helped me a lot . I appreciate it very much. 👊🏽
Thank you brother. Glad it helped. Thanks for watching 👊
This happened to my 2019 Sahara Unlimited it broke off 1 month later smh I really appreciate your good doing thank you.
You are welcome. I appreciate your comment and watch time!
Thank you very much for the video , I was able to fix my 2019 Jeep Wrangler . I bought the part from Lowe's it was inside the special nut drawer. It's inside red Axle push nut. I was able to cut the red plastic with utility knife and remove the metal push nut. Than I used hand saw and cut the plastic from the base to make sure metal has enough room to insert the push nut. All done in 15 minutes! And only cost $1.85
Awesome. Glad to help a fellow Jeep owner. Thanks for watching and commenting.
This is great! Happened to my 2019 2 door JL today after putting the windshield down for the first time in order to change some audio components! Going to give this a try! Thanks!
I hope you are able to get it fixed. Mine still works to this day.
Many thanks for the video...works great. If anyone else out there had a hard time finding 5/16 push nut, I found some at Lowes with the red cap on it (axle nut). I just cut the red cap off with a dremel tool and the size of the push nut was perfect.
Awesome. Good advice. Thanks for watching my video. Glad it helped you out!!
I went to Lowe's found the same axle nuts. Thanks for mentioning the red cap. I would've missed them.
I want to thank you so much for this video same thing happened to my except it's on a driver side I was wondering how I was going to get this fixed now I know it's not coming up on the warranty and what you did was a great idea good job
Thank you so much brother! Just to let you know mine is still holding up to this day. Better than brand new. I do not think it will ever fall out again. The great things is, you can't even tell it was done!. I hope you get yours fixed! Thanks for watching and thanks for the kind words!
Thank you my man!!! my friday project going well with your help
Awesome. Glad I could help! Thanks for watching my video!!
Thank you! Just noticed this problem today, will try this fix this weekend! :)
You are welcome! I hope you get it accomplished! Mine still works like new to this day!
Great video! Thanks. My Gladiator Drivers sun visor is broken. Will attempt to fix it.
You are welcome. Mine still works great to this day. I hope you get yours fixed!
My drivers side broke and the dealer fixed it under warranty, but just yesterday the passenger side broke so I’m just going to do this myself. Seems longer lasting. Thank you!
Glad the one was fixed under warranty. The way I fixed it in my video lasts a long time. I don’t ever see it falling out unless I rip it out. Thanks for watching. Any questions during your repair please ask.
Mine has the same issue. Its a 2020. Thanks for the video.
You are welcome
That's the fix I'm looking for. Thank You.
You are welcome. Mine is still working like new to this day. Thanks for watching!
Great video, thank you. I have the exact same issue
This fix is working like new to this day! Thanks for watching. If you follow this video I hope it all works well for you. Thanks again. 🤙
Thanks for the great instructional video. Very creative fix.
Thank you! I appreciate your watch time and comment. Have a blessed Thanksgiving.
Thank you so much for this excellent video. I’d read about this fix on the forums and was about to attempt it using split collars with set screws and really appreciate your detailed step by step hands on of everything.
Thank you! I hope you accomplished the fix. You can have confidence in this. Mine still works like new to this day. No issues.
@@rjguess Great to hear! Working thru it now but think im on the right track!

@@rjguess Ended up stripping out 2 split collars - those tiny threads just weren’t up for the job - so went with your fix after all. Buttoned back up and holding strong.

Thank you for this information. Ours just broke this morning. 2018 Wrangler JL
You are welcome. Thanks for watching my video.
Wonderfully made. Direct, concise, leaving nothing to guess and omitting the pretentious chatter that plagues most instructional attempts. This repair will make my wife very happy indeed. You don't happen to know of anything similar instructing repair of console latch for same jeep?
Thank you. I’m glad my video helped. I’m sorry to say I do not know how to repair the console latch on these Jeeps. I haven’t had any issues with it. But if I do, I will make a video.
This was awesome very helpful thank you just had this happen
Thank you for commenting and watching. This repair is still working like new on mine to this day!
Thank You.
Great fix.
You are welcome. Thanks for watching.
Same happened to mine, I’ll try this. Thanks!
Mine is fixed now and still working great!!!
@@rjguess what size push button did you use? It’s not working for mine yet. How much did you sand off? Your talking about the back right?
@@travisbrooks2304 it’s a 5/16 push nut. It was very tight. I had to use a hammer and flat head to tap it on. I sanded out the hole that the visor pivoting arm fits into. I sanded it for awhile until I could push with some force, the piece up through the whole to get the push but on it.
Love my Jeep, hate that a brand new vehicle has so many factory problems that a 5 cent part can fix. Jeep needs to do better!!
Agreed.
2019 JL - Driver side broke the same way... Thanks for the pre-work!
Thank you for watching my video. I hope you get it fix on your JL. Mine is working great to this day. No problems so far.
A little sanding and trimming of the cover and shade insert with a 37 cent part (actually 2 since I damaged the first one - but luckily bought 3) and about 1/2 hours work - as a result of the AWSOME tutorial HERE! and I am back in the shade on the day it broke! Thanks again for the up front work here. Appreciate it Immensely!
@@mallardfamily8032 great! Thanks. I’m glad you got it fixed. Glad my video helped.
Thanks for making this video. I think it’s a safety issue and should be covered under warranty. Mine randomly fell down as I was traveling down the interstate…
Yes, that’s not good! Thanks for watching my video. I hope you get it fixed. Either by someone or they way I did it. Either way, I hope you get it fixed.
I did this fix and worked awesome! The only problem I had was finding the push nut. I finally went to Tractor Supply and found 4/16 Axil nut (red) and cut off the plastic covering.
5/16 nut I mean
Awesome!! Glad it worked. Just so you know, mine still works like new to this day. So no worries!!
Thanks! Gonna give it a try.
Good! Thanks for watching.
Same thing happened to my visor a week ago, was wondering what to do about it thanks!!!!!
This will work! Any questions please ask.

My 2020 JLUR the driver side just broke! I ordered the 5/16" push on retainers from from Amazon so ill be repairing mine soon! 😜
Awesome! Thanks for watching my video. I hope you get yours fixed. Mine is working great to this day!
Excellent!
Thanks.
That was very helpful!😌❤️
I’m glad. Thanks for watching!
Very nice, sir... Just found my driver's side on my 20 wrangler with 6500 miles broke at same point🙄. Cheap arse plastic instead of metal. Lame! I had a feeling they would break at some point and figured check CZcams as usual😆. Haven't checked to see if it's a wear item but we do have the extended warranty🤔
Thanks for watching. I hope you get it repaired! My repair job in this video is still holding up very well.
Just happened yesterday on my 2020 Gladiator on the driver's side. I'm going to try the warranty route, but if that is a no-go, I'm going to try this.
I hope you get fixed either way! Thanks for watching my video!
Any luck on the Warranty request???
My passenger side sunvisor just fell apart this morning. I took it apart, and figured I'd have to deal with the dealer. Ugh. Glad I don't because this looks very doable. FYI, I think instead of needle nose pliers I'll use an open end wrench when beating the spring clip into place. Owning a manual transmission, I am avoiding dealer lest they install that software mod that reduces engine power. Thanks so much!
Awesome. Mine is still holding up like new to this day! I hope you get it repaired soon.
bless you.
Thanks.
My JLU driver side broke. I can’t believe this isn’t a warranty issue if it’s such a common thing. Thanks for the video!!”
I agree. It should be. I read many forums and blogs of people complaining about this. To buy a new one is insane. My fix still works flawlessly to this day. You would never know unless it was taken apart.
@@rjguess my passenger side visor broke same place. Called the dealership and they are fixing it under warranty.
@@jeffsmith246 wow, that’s good. Not covered under my warranty.
@@rjguess Taking Jeep in Saturday to get visor fixed at dealership. Will follow up with comments on how it works out.
@@jeffsmith246 definitely thank you. I hope it goes well for you.
Had mine really replaced under warranty. No issues.
Good! I’m glad!
How did u get them to cover it under warrenty? You just asked or did u have to speak with someone high up?
I'd definitely call it a defect. The same thing happened to both of my Sun Visors within weeks of owning my 2018 Jeep Wrangler.
I agree, it should be recalled by Jeep. But atheist this fix works very well. Mine is still holding up better than new!
Did you ask Jeep if they would repair it? My 2019 Wrangler is giving me problems too. 😠
@@MarioRodriguez-gr8wc Yes I did, the parts were on back order. They said they would cover it under warranty when the parts came in. That was months ago and the parts still haven't came in.
@@tylermacdermott5467 thanks man I just called the dealer and they’re going to cover it too. Yeah production slowed down during COVID. I work at Auto Zone and we are having back order issues too. Best of luck.
This fix does not work for every jeep. Beware that if you grind or sand out the hole (min 5:34) in the bracket and try to slide the visor arm further up into it's slot it could cause your visor to rub against the top frame of your jeep, even potentially making it inoperable all together. My Jeep 2018 Sahara fix was to grind off the lip inside down to flush of the bracket itself. This did NOT change the way the visor arm fit into the bracket but what it did was allow for more of the metal part of the arm to protrude THROUGH the bracket. Then I made a slot in the chrome part of the arm, placed a 1/4" washer and a retaining (e-clip) to hold it all together. The 2018 Sahara visor is just too short to adjust how much it slid into the bracket so a reverse engineer of rj's fix was necessary.
Good advice thanks for leaving this!
Nice tips
Thanks!
I’d be taking that back to the dealership for warranty. It’s great that you fixed it, but I’m going to make Jeep continue to replace mine, I’ve spent too much $$$$ for this crap to happen.
I agree with you. My dealership is an hour away. Plus my fix is still working to this day just like new. But I certainly don’t blame anyone for going to the dealer.
How can I get jeep to cover this if it’s not covered under the warrenty? I have less then 5000 miles on mine and it’s broke. :/
@@ericamiller3439 If you only have 5,000 miles it should be covered under the 3year 36,000 mile manufacture’s bumper to bumper warranty.
@@davidcraig9233 thank you, taking it today
You Sir, are a legend! How has it held up?
Thank you for your kind words! It works like new , if not better than new to this day. No problems at all!
Pretty sad that Jeep has not acknowledged that this is a problem, and enacted a recall to repair it!
Thanks for the repair instructions.
Is all still holding up ok?
Yes, it is holding up better than new to this day. I appreciate you watching and commenting. I agree, Jeep should acknowledge this. I think the amount of views and comments on this video alone should warrant that.
Thank you and that was a bad design by jeep. Ps my drivers side broke and this was a good idea. Note they did not change the deisgn so it will break again.
Thanks for watching! I agree on the design being bad. Glad my video helped you out!
Great video. Where did you get the retaining nut from?
Thanks! I got it at LOWES. But you can also find them on Amazon.
You’re fucking awesome. Thanks, brotha!
You are welcome!
Any updates from anyone on how long this fix stayed together. My gladiator has the same problem and I’m going to try to get the driver’s side fixed at the dealer. Only 26,000 miles
Mine is still working perfect to this day. Mine broke on my at around 10,000 miles. I have had no issues with the way I fixed this in the video. Thanks for watching and asking. I hope you get your fixed and it lasts a long time!!
I called the dealer, and they said there is a bulletin out on the issue. It's covered under warranty but of course parts are on backorder
At least it’s covered. Thanks for the info!
My 2019 wrangler at 22,000 the drivers side did the same for me.
I hope you can get it fixed. A lot of Jeep owners are having this issue. My repair job is still holding up like new to this day. It works great. I use the visor often. Thanks for watching and commenting. I appreciate it.
I love you
I take it my video was helpful?!
happened in the 2020 jeep wrangler my gf owns, unfortunately the wiped ripped out of the visor part, so not sure how i will take that apart and reattach the wires.....you would hope little shit like this would be fixed in the following years models...
Dang man I agree. Too many people are having this issue on multiple models and multiple years.
@@rjguess well thanks for the video!
My driver's side broke TWICE within 27k miles and passenger side one within 17k miles. Both sides are exactly the same. The warranty covered all 3 broken visors. I would call Jeep Care if they refuse to cover it.
Ok, thanks. My repair work is holding out better than new. If it happens to my other one, I might consider calling Jeep Care. Thank you.
Both of mine broke and I think it from clap from removing the top off. I I’ll but then on the it will push down on the sun visor
It’s a possibility. But mine does not push down on the sun visor.
Phenomenal! Both my JT visors broke within a week of each other. While I'm still under warranty I'd rather just use this method and hassle with a trip to the dealership. Thanks so much for posting this!!! Also, how can there be 5 dislikes, really? Just an FYI on this project... my visor "nub" was also very short and required me to use a hacksaw and dremel to remove all of the round plastic portion of the visor bracket. I had to make sure the plastic round piece on the bracket was flush to the rest of the bracket. I also had to slightly "bore out" the hole to get the visor metal "nub" to stick out as much as possible. Just an FYI I have a 2020 JTR. Nothing major, but slightly more trimming than rjguess1 had to do. It's PERFECT now! Time for the driver side.
Lol, the dislikes are possibly non Jeep owners or dealerships! Thanks for commenting and watching. Any questions please ask. Ok do my best to answer. Mine works like new to this day. No problems at all!
My driver side just dropped like that. What a cheap ass design and Jeep has the part on backorder due to demand with no estimate. Do you have any specs on that locking washer or who has them?
Thanks for sharing your fix and better design.
5/16 push nut. Hardware store have them. Lowes, Ace, etc. cheat. Some people in the comments hotbed the shaft a little so the push nut had something to lock down in. Mine is hold up like new to this day.
Am I the only one that this did not work for me at all? I shortened the plastic part with a hacksaw, but the push nut does not stay on no matter how far I slam it in there. It will feel tight, then come off when trying to put it back on the jeep. I have a 2020 gladiator that I unknowingly bought with this problem. I tried to look at how you got yours on there but you skipped that part completely and all the clips of it after are blurry…Any other tips?
Hopefully what I say makes sense. Look at the metal shaft that you press the push but on. At the base of it where you want the nut to stay. File or cut a groove in it for the teeth of the push nut to grab onto. Some other people who commented or spoke to me said they needed to do that in order for that push nut to stay in place. I hope this makes sense to you. Please let me know if this does. Thank you for the information about my video. In the future I will try not to skip certain parts of my videos. Also I will do better on the quality of the video. I appreciate you indeed.
It definitely helps to make a groove like RJ says. I used a Dremel tool to cut a shallow groove around the silver piece. Then I tapped the axle-nut on upside down so the teeth angle up. Lastly, I banged each tooth into the groove with the small Phillips screwdriver. It'll be much stronger than Mopar's design and can be removed by simply prying the axle-nut teeth back.
My Gladiator driver side just broke. Definitely a design flaw.
I agree. If you do this fix, just know that mine is still working like new to this day.
My driver side broke, they are covering it under the bumper to bumper warranty.
Good, glad to read this. Glad you are getting it repaired.
for me, it's drivers side on my 2020 gladiator....now to find this "push nut"
I ended up finding mine at my local auto store. I hope you find it and get it fixed. You can also find them on Amazon. Just look up “Push-On Pushnut”.

So if I use crazy glue it won't work ? lol
I didn’t for me. Because the small ring of plastic that broke off is pressed through with pressure on it. As soon as the blue dried it broke again as I tried to put it back together. Too much stress on the broken part. At least in my case.

I’m sorry this isn’t working for you. I thought the 2019 and 2020 would have been very similar. Mine was very tight after I pushed it up far enough to get the the push nut on. Maybe try and use a vise. Put a thin layer of grease in the hole. The insert the other part, slowly press it in there with the vise. Just be sure to go slow so. That plastic is pretty dang tough.
