  • This Porsche 912E from 1976 is the air-cooled four-cylinder version of the Porsche 911. It uses the Volkswagen engine that we know from the Porsche 914 and the Type 2 ("Flachmotor").

    I am a recent subscriber and wanted to let you know that your work is magnificent and inspiring. I am a proud owner of a 912E. Yes, they do share many elements of the VW bus engine but have a few unique differences. I have rebuilt mine to a whopping 2056cc🤣 ( kept the L- Jetronic). You can actually notice the boost of power. And by the way, the rebuild along with some basic suspension mods make it a blast to drive! Thanks again for the channel.

    Ah, the short-lived, mostly-for-America 911 with a VW engine. An interesting automobile oddity I'd quite happily own, as performance no longer matters when cars are this old... 90HP is enough to look good while cruising around :)

    My friend has a Pastel Blue 1969 912. I was very surprised at how it drove and that it actually had power. He loves it as I'm sure most 912 owners do. The older 912s in the states are definitely increasing in value. I'm not sure about the later 912Es. Great video as usual!

    I had one for a brief time and it was a blast to drive to say the least. The only mod I did was to lowered it. I vividly recall the feeling of drive by the sit of my pants on B-roads. Don't think for once that a VW 4-cyclinder powerplant isn't up to the task.

    I have always liked the 912, both for it's eternal design and style 911, but also because it is the conjunction ring with 365 and the original four cylinder engine. The lack of two cylinders doesn't takes off nothing to the fascion of the car, maybe add.

    How does it feel driving the car? Could we say that it is something like the Karmann Ghia a sports body but a slow engine or there is some sport spirit in that bus motor? And would you know, has Porsche done any changes to the engine or is it a stock VW engine?

    • @GreasyFingers

    When i saw one of those in the US in the 80’s i was thinking it was a high preformance 911, due to the higher number in the name. Oh, how wrong i was. 😅
    Is this like a 1300 GT Junior to the GTV Alfa’s?

    • @GreasyFingers
      @GreasyFingers  Před 3 lety +1

      That’s a good way of putting it.
      The 4 has significant low rev punch, quite comparable to the 3.2-6. Maybe even a tad more. Above 3.000 of course the 6 pulls away.

      On my 1300 Gt Junior’s Jaeger instruments, the tach-needle rest at 500 rpm, and the speedo at 20 km/h when the egine is not running.
