I'm so happy to be able to watch this with the rest of my favorite Christmas movies. First saw this when it came out with my sisters. We had all been raised on Crosby, Sinatra, and Martin's music. Mom and Dad were big fans of the crooners and their music played constantly in our house. Watching this movie brings all those memories, Thank you so much
I am 73 and must have seen this movie when it came out. Astonishing that I remembered the words to Say one For Me. My parents were great fans of Bing and I was born in Spokane a connection they always reminded me of. I was disappointed that he was actually born in.Tacoma.
I saw this movie when I was 6 years old at the Patterson, Baltimore, Maryland. My Aunt/Godmother. I LOVE THIS MOVIE❗️ Thank you so much for posting this movie.
A new Christmas song I have never heard!! That's amazing!! Being a huge fan of all musicals...I was shocked I never heard of this movie before! Truly wonderful!! Doesn't Bing Crosby make a totally believable priest? He always did! And how handsome was Robert Wagner...Wow! Debbie Reynolds was always the biggest star!! 🥰
Oh my goodness! I saw "Say One For Me" in the summer of 1959 in Sanford, Florida, where I was visiting my aunt and uncle. I've remembered the movie and theme song all these years, although I've forgotten the plot. Can't wait to see it again. Thank you!
I also saw "Say One For Me" when it came out in the summer of 1959. I was eleven years old and didn't quite understand everything that was going on. Liz/Eddie/Debbie had erupted about 10 months earlier and Debbie Reynolds had a lot of public goodwill. What I understand now, seeing it for the first time after all these years, is that Robert Wagner gives me the creeps.
My Generation knows him as "Uncle Martin", which is the last name of my mother's Iowa family (only 4 of 10 brothers and sisters remain) My Favorite Maritian, and I've come across a game show in the early 60s Stump the Stars with Sebastián Cabot as a regular cast members, he also had a small opening scenes in The Time Machine
Bing Crosby's famous glissandi... and the film opening, a beautiful canon (round), accentuated by Debbie Reynolds' coquettish dance moves! Best formula of the 50s, and the musicals were in the lead! I had such glorious fun watching them, learning the songs, while dancing! Happy days! Thanks, for the memories! 💃💃💃
A beautiful movie. Bing Crosby and Debbie Reynolds were two wonderfully gifted people. The young Robert Wagner was surprisingly good. Thanks for uploading this gem of a movie.
Hello. Never thought that Ms. D Reynolds & bingo would ever be in a flick w/Wagner !!! Way soo totally obsessed or fully incorrect. I've never seen this before. Wagner could had held a candle to miss Reynolds. Bingo may had been a legend however, time continues & life shall continue.
I’ve watched a lot of old movies and I’ve seen a lot of old musicals, but I’ve never seen Robert Wagner singing dance, except on an odd episode of heart to heart, but I don’t think he sang on that.
Never seen this romance musical. Reynolds was a favorite star by then, her rendition of her "signature" hit, that would finish out as #1 Tammy in 1957. One of her nicknames, was Aba Dabba from her first big 1951 movie, Singing in the Rain. I don't know if I've ever seen Robert Wagner sing..?

LOL Crosby telling My Favorite Martian "Would you like to rejoin the earth people again?" Actually Ray Walston gives one of his finest performances in this movie.
@@SteveKrampitz probably because there are no other great Superstars alive today that were back in the forties fifties and sixties like Doris day, Judy Garland, John Wayne, Eydie gorme, and hundreds more. Robert Wagner is the only exception. ( Yes , a big star during the late 1950s, the 1960s, the 1970s and in some of the 1980s.) However, as wonderful as he was, he was never considered a super talented Megastar. These are not here with us today.
@@SteveKrampitz Steve, I have subscribed to your channel just 2 hours ago! I know that must be awfully busy. Any ideas or suggestions for the rare Dorothy Lamour movies I recently mentioned? 🤔🙄 Please let me know when you get the time. 😳Your channel is so very special and unique! 🤗💌
Thank you for this very rare special film. Could you possibly have Dorothy Lamour movies such as " beyond the Blue horizon," "aloma of the South seas", and other rare Dorothy Lamour films? 🤔 Thanks again, I really enjoyed seeing this film today for the very first time! 🤗💌
As much as I like Robert Wagner he just seem miscast here. Next to 2 great talents I would have like to see a star with singing and dancing that equaled Debbie and Bing. He just kind of stood around. But he's very Charismatic! All that being said good movie. 😮
1:24:18 interesting little interchange about alcoholism, seeing as being Crosby was one. I do know somewhere along the way he did stop drinking with his second family, but his older children took the brunt of his alcoholism, both emotionally and physically.
That apartment is cooler than most efficiencie6s or studio apartments that I have seen before . He is a smooth operator. What kind of door is that with the top open? She was able to fling things outside without opening the door.
That was called a transom window. Also helpful for cooling an apt because it allows for hot air to escape. Not very good for security though, so it doesn't make a good front door for an apartment. Good idea for rooms within an apartment or a house, good idea for air flow in general. Don't know why they are never used now. Maybe no one wants to depend on natural ventilation, just air conditioning.
I agree with you 110%!! Yes, indeed! However, unfortunately & sadly, this musical has never been released EVER in it's original aspect ratio despite the three BIG NAME Hollywood Legends that make up the Top Billing of this stellar cast. TCM and/or AMC a very long time ago MIGHT have aired it in it's original letterbox cinemascope aspect ration, but it has never ever been release commercially in it's original aspect ration. Hopefully, eventually it will be! That is my true desire for sure!
@@SteveKrampitz Full frame versions of wide-screen movies seem out of date and archaic to me. It comprises the director's original and creative vision.
This is what normal movies are supposed to be! Nudity, sex, cursing, realistic blood and guts are NOT needed to make a good movie. Hollywood has long since forgotten what a normal common sense movie really is!!! They should take lessons from the old masters!🎥🎞️🎬
Say One for Me (1959) 5.5 Father Conroy (Crosby) has a parish which serves the acting and performance community. When one of his parishoners gets too sick to work, his daughter Holly (Reynolds) finds a job working for a dance club of questionable character, which is run by Tony Vincent (Wagner). Vincent never made the big time, and Father Conroy tries to look after Holly. There are many musical numbers, and the conclusion is a televised benefit show hosted by Father Conroy, and Tony must choose between Holly and national fame.

A couple of times at the church Bing says "the end of the Holy Gospel" after reading scripture. That isn't the Gospel - the Gospel is this: the “good news” that Jesus Christ died to pay the penalty for our sins so that we might become the children of God through faith alone in Christ alone. We have forgiveness in Him...❤🙂
In current Catholic liturgy , after the Gospel reading the priest says, "The Gospel of the Lord" and the congregation replies, "Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ" When this film was made, Mass was in Latin, & the priest said, "Laus tibi, Christe" which means "Praise be to Thee, O Christ" I guess the screenplay writers secularized the words possibly to make it relatable to different denominations
