- In just his second workout of the winter training block Jake and crew does a brutal hill workout at altitude in Flagstaff, Arizona. Jake is coming off a chest infection and a sprained ankle and wants to show that even world champions have to start somewhere after each off season and you do not have to be perfect early on. In this video Jake gives a lot of good insight to his life and running career. Accompanying Jake in the workout is steeple chase Olympian Zak Seddon and New Balance athlete Thomas Keen. The workout:
3 mile warmup
6x60 sec hills (2 mins)
6x45 sec hills (90 secs)
6x30 sec hills (60 secs)
2 mile cool down

Christ that looked brutal. I love that Jake has the balls to put an early workout of the block out there like this, knowing it was going to be tough.
Your content is off the charts!! No BS just pure training 🔥🔥
This one was one of my favorites. When they were squatting on the ground between reps, I feel like I could see their lungs soaking in the fitness (that’s how it works, right? 😆) Loved the Q/As and seeing Jake struggle - humble guy and great example that to be great, you can’t always be at your top fitness.
more like lungs are complaining and telling them to apologize by bowing
Prime example of talent that works hard not just rely on talent alone! Deadly combination.
THATS AWESOME!
World champion, you can't ask for any more!
Olympic champion?
@@shanegill5091 Jakob but I doubt that will happen.
@@williamsmith1451 yea hes very private seemingly
@@charleshuang1110 Actually a ton of his running is on CZcams.
@@terraflow__bryanburdo4547 yea but not stuff like splits, workout details, pace, and stuff lime that. Just some short clips of him running is all
I did 10x45-50second hills today and I felt like I was going to die. I can't imagine how painful this was at altitude. Great work!
Wait until you are 66 and hoping that feeling isn't an infarction! 🤣
This is a great clip of pure suffering and being humble. Thanks
At the sea level , Little less intensity and that's the type of workout I do when i want to get high and pass out.
This is mad brutal. Kudos to jake and team.
Brutal 😂 Motivated to smash out a similar session myself this week. Thanks for the inspiration, guys 👏🏼
I loved doing my 20x200 hills in New balance rebel v2s. Just got a pair of v3s and can't wait to try them out in next hill session.
Magic!!! Love this!!
Jake is such a cool guy 😎
Very relatable.
This is a fun exercise to burn some fat!! Question... have you ever tried Next Level Diet? I got a fat-loss meal plan from them and I love it
this one and the one with sorokin are def the best episodes with so much interesting insight!
Really enjoyable video, thanks for sharing with us👍
Good to hear that you have you naps. Personally it’s a siesta for me. I sometimes feel this is frowned upon in the UK, but I think recovery is key.
best video you guys have ever made 🤝👑
one of my favorite training programs hahaha, its quite very helpful for your endurance runs.
Top content. Love hills
great video. if more 800-1500m athletes footage is comming I have to become a member again 🤔the biggest challenge was probably to drive on the "wrong side" of the road after just arriving overseas 🙊
This was great y'all.
Love this
Loved doing hills back in the day, they give brutal strength and stamina. Always will need to counterbalance with speed session, because hills will slow you down.
I LOVE YOU SWEAT ELITE WITHOUT YOU LIFE ISNT THE SAME
Brutal but Inspirational
I love that his dad gives out certificates of completion 😂I want to get one
I have done this session quite a few times over the years and think it used to be a Loughborough University hill session.
As an 800 guy who gets creamed on long reps by distance teammates, I can relate to Jake's ordeal.
Thank you
beastttt
Another amazing video. Any insight into how steep the hill was (% grade), the paces and how they were adjusted for the different timed intervals, what was the date this was filmed? Location in Flagstaff (name of the road)?
I have the same question
Interesting point Flagstaff vs Boulder. The benefits of having a range of facilities, both sporting and not. A coffee shop is a good way to decompress and think of other things than training I guess. As they say "all work and no play...
Flag is more chilled and is also a dark sky city, that's great for star gazing at the Lowell Observatory. You could do hill reps up the road to the observatory. But Flag has limited trails so if its endless 14ers that you're after then Boulder it is
What are the distances being covered per the times ?
21:28 face full of dust for your troubles 😂
How steep was the hill? 😎
Natural High Industry...
Great video guys!
Great content.
The training in the description doesn’t include the rest time between sets. Would love to know that.
Just added it. It was double the rep time
So after the first 6 long runs set they rest 2mins. Then 90secs after the medium length etc
Or do they have a set rest time for after each set?
Great video and insight
Rest between repeated and series?
Would be interested to know if Jake would try to do Jakob's mileage of 150-180k per week to improve the endurance/strength
I think they are different runners. Jake has always been more speed accustomed so idt he will do well with jakobs 5k training
Nice no music ,,just the patter of feet
And gasping and groaning 🤣
What is the recovery?
lactic level of 15 at the end of the climb hahaha and still Jake keeps going a real chaml World´s final was nuts and then he ran a 1:43 for 800
I'm a little confused, why call the workout by "time" when really they are running by distance instead? Those reps at the end they were closing how ever many meters in 20 seconds versus truly running by time. Could you provide the meterage for the reps? The long reps were pretty right on but they were able to hit the "30 sec reps" at way faster of a pace which is incredible considering the altitude and rhythm by the looks of it! Such a great video, really loved the insights! What an awesome group, I hope to see more from them in the future! Cheers!
Likely they have run this hill before and going off previous marks. Each set was about 100 meters shorter than the previous. Hard to tell exactly where they are starting but it looks to be about 320m, 220m and 120m but could be shorter based off where they start. Reps roughly ended up 64 for long, 44 for mid and 23 for short. Cheers!
Did you like the video though?
@@sweatelite Absolutely! It's a treat to have an inside look at these world class athletes! Keep up the great work 💪💯
@@sweatelite awesome awesome awesome video. do u have any insights of why they were doing by time and its weird since they didnt exactly go via time, short reps were 23s instead of 30s
how steep are we talking, hard to gauge on video?
Minute 14:06, low your volume for high whistle, especially if you're wearing headphones, otherwise you'll get a scare and your ears will ring like mine :D
si me parece dificil son fuertes
are the (2mins), (90secs) and (60secs) recovery time in between each repeat or each set?
each rep and the rest between sets is double the time between reps
Hello, why dont you compete more Jake?
Does anyone know what shoes jake was wearing in the session?
He says rebels so I'm guessing it's new balance rebels V2🤷
Butt kicking altitude
What does he mean “the trend” ?
"Certificate of Completion" 😭
Did they just start with the first rep cold?
From the description it seems a 3 mile warm up beforehand.
@@pauldavies7746 thanks!
Sun I see sun Scotland 🏴
Even great athletes suffer….. 🌋
Ingebrigtsen taking notes.
Haha ingebrigtsen is ten times better.
can we get this man a gimble?
What for
That looked quite the fatiguing session.
Everyone is just F from this workout
Just standard training that every distance runner, with a full-time job, has done in the UK for years. What's special?
Better work on those hills if you plan to ever beat Jakob again.
With all due respect, you ask some objectively terrible questions. “Which one felt better, qualifying for the Olympics or winning the World Championships?” If you’re not able to see why this is not a good question, then you don’t know much about elite running.
With all due respect just skip over that question and enjoy the rest.
It was just a meh question but hey sweatelite is trying to improve too. I believe he asked that because Jake didnt qualify for Rio so the Olympics qualification means a lot
