    Hi, everybody! If you're wondering how my table has stood up over time, I created a video about it. You can find it here: czcams.com/video/gocox56crSM/video.html I'm sorry that the volume of the video isn't so great, but I'm constantly trying to improve my video editing, so future videos are better, I promise! Also, I'm working on creating another video to show you how to touch up scratches and ding marks, so please subscribe and stayed tuned for that future video. Thank you so much for watching! I hope you've found this video to be helpful to you! :)

      Hi does chalk paint ever finish looking completely smooth or is it always streaky looking? Thanks

    • @kathykarlas9414
      @kathykarlas9414 Před 4 lety

      1thornley I have not found it to be streaky. Everything I have ever chalk painted I always had to give several coats. I always buy good paint too. I have painted all my life and have found thru the years the saying...You get what you pay for hold true to this type of painting.

    This was exactly what I was looking for. Just bought a cabin in the mountains that came with a round oak dining table that I’d like to paint and antique. It’s a true log cabin so hand hewn wood grain is everywhere and thus an oak grain on the table clashed. I’ll be trying this technique. Thank you!

    I liked your video. Great choice of colors. I've done a lot of furniture refinishing. Back in the 80's I would strip the furniture & then re-stain and take care of imperfections. I still think it's wise to sand, clean, fill in areas that need filling, etc. I believe you will get a more long lasting professional look for the item...especially if its solid wood.

  • @Pamsmith59
    @Pamsmith59 Před 7 lety +2

    You've given the table a whole new look/life! Did you know that you can "wet sand" ASCP (with just a damp rag) BEFORE you wax, and thereby save a step? Then you have no sanding dust to clean up, or need to re-wax the distressed edges. Happy painting!

    • @MissJustinaMarie
      @MissJustinaMarie  Před 7 lety

      Pam, thank you very much for the compliment and also for that great tip! Makes a lot of sense. I will DEFINITELY give that technique a try...the more time saved the better! THANKS. :)

    • @MissJustinaMarie
      @MissJustinaMarie  Před 7 lety +3

      The wax is what "seals" the chalk paint. Otherwise, due to its chalky texture, it will flake off over time. After you apply the wax, it "cures" or hardens, forming a protective layer over the chalk paint.

    • @MissJustinaMarie
      @MissJustinaMarie  Před 7 lety +1

      I used one quart for the uppers (I had enough paint left to do the top of my dining room table) and a half a quart for the lowers (I had enough paint left to refinish an old Ikea dresser.) Hope that helps!

    Just found this video. I was looking for a small writing desk as a decorative piece in my renovated living room. Someone gave an old to me that was old but in good condition. At some point, the top was painted dark brown and the legs were left a dark stain. This may be the perfect solution to bring this back to life without have to strip it first.

  • @laughlivelovechannel7637

I hope you and your daughter have an excellent time together restoring your outdoor table. :) If you can't find AS, you may be able to find Jolie paint, a newer product brand that I believe is an Australian-based company. It's not technically "chalk paint" but it works the same way and I've heard wonderful things. I look forward to hearing how your project turns out. Cheers!

      That’s so awesome! 🙌🏼 I hope my video was helpful. Are you going to try chalk paint? If you do, the one thing I would suggest now that I’ve lived with my chalk-painted table for about 2 1/2 years, is to consider sealing the top of the table with a matte or satin polycrylic. I think it will be more durable than the wax.
      Good luck with your project, I hope it turns out great!😁😁😁

    So Awesome! I am going to be painting our dining table white soon too! It is a table I got from Pottery Barn a few years ago. It has some sort of wood stain-looking veneer on top, that is peeling/scratched off on some areas. Under that, it looks like a pine color, but not smooth. Im not sure what this table is made out of? But should I try to get all of that veneer off before painting it? Or just go right over it? Also, does putting the wax on make it sticky, so that lint and cat hairs will constantly stick to the table? Any advice would be so appreciated :)

    I just bought an end table at Pier 1 and I don’t like the color. It’s a yellowish creme and I need a beige color. Would like to distress it a bit but my question is would I need to put a dark color under the beige color to get the distressed look? Or would the yellowish color look okay coming out as the antiqued color? Seems the color coming through should be darker like yours and others I’ve seen. Thanks so much, loved your video.

    Excellent video. Great quality from tutorial to editing.
    Just wondering if the clear wax is enough to protect dining table top?
    Thank you

      Its not, with wax you have to reapply it from time to time ir you will end up with a more destroyed table from what u started with, use a polycrilic, like 5-7 coats and youll be safe.

    Just beautiful. Why do you use the wax to protect the wood ?

      Thank you, Norine! If you don’t seal chalk paint, it will begin to flake off.
      Hope you have a lovely day! 💕

      Thank you so much for subscribing, Lucia! As for your table, as long as there is no "rush" to refinish your table, just think about it for a while and maybe also look into other refurbishing methods. For ex., I'd love to try gel stain one day. :)

    I wanted to add a bit of a design, maybe by using a sharpie paint pen. Would I do my design before the waxing or after???

    I think I can do this. What was the wax that you used at the end?

    After applying chalk paint and wax can you use the top with dishes and glasses or does it stain easily. Can it be cleaned with soap and water?

    This is a great DIY thank you! Do you recommend the dark wax on certain pieces?

    • @MissJustinaMarie

      Theresa, thank you for the compliment! Yes, I think the dark wax gives such a cool finish, especially if you want a highly textured piece or a more vintage or rustic look.
