    I've wondered why exactly Alessa awoke and released her rage on Silent Hill when she did; hard to believe it was a coincidence that it happened when Harry and Cheryl were arriving in town. But they'd been to Silent Hill before and Alessa hadn't roused then. My thought is that because her caregiver Dr. Kauffman had gone into hiding she hadn't been getting the rounds of drugs that kept her abilities suppressed as of late and she was able sense the impending arrival of her other half.

    Alessa has been through hell with her abusive mother and the Cult, as Cheryl she learned about love and joy through her father. As Heather she learned love and maturity and thinking from Harry. Even after Harrys death you could tell Cheryl/Heather became independent and learned that life isnt fair and that one must move foward through hardship and turmoil.
    Cheryl even though not being related to Harry was not ashamed of her adoptive fathers last name "Mason".

    They should really call you The Symbolic Muse, your so detailed in analysing meaningful games and characters.
    It's kinda disturbing how i find Alessa, Lisa and Angela parallel eachother, none of them survive but leaves something behind, their names have A and L, their stories revolve around hopelessness and have a history that involves abuse, misery and manipulation, all three have a association with the colors Red and White.
    Hoping your gonna do Lisa Garland though.

Marilyn Monroe and Britney Spears are two of the most well known Kitten (sex slave) program victims, and MM was the first presidential model (kitten for the president).

    Technically the fire wasn’t apart of the ritual. Alessa became so distressed during the ritual and blows up the boiler and was burned horribly. Despite that detail the video does a good job analyzing Alessa.

    • @thegamingmuse
      @thegamingmuse  Před 6 lety +17

      I disagree, mostly due to some information I found on the SH Wiki. A member of Team Silent confirmed that he believed the burning was done on purpose by the cult, and the boiler was a cover up. I think that makes the best sense, especially given the traditional use of fire as a method of transformation and magic in many traditions.

    • @jorgecaimanque6951
      @jorgecaimanque6951 Před 6 lety +11

      I thought that Dahlia intended to do the ritual without fire, but Alessa's powers blew up the boiler in the basement setting the house on fire. Dahlia "realized" the potential that the fire could have on the ritual so she decided to leave Alessa to burn, as seen in the beginning of Origins.

    • @Torthrodhel
      @Torthrodhel Před 6 lety +5

      Yeah that makes the most sense to me (what Galaxion says), and is also the earliest-established version of events in the games, although fans including those who write the wiki argue about this all the time. I personally reckon that the people making Origins just wanted the ritual to look more visually gruesome (for the extra evil points), so that's why they changed the fire to be deliberate. I think that was a bit of a dumb decision, but yeah clearly some prefer that version.
      I hadn't heard before the idea that Dahlia in Origins was opportunistic in using the fire when it did happen by accident. That's... interesting. It marries together two things in the games that were arguing with each other, and makes them not argue any more. Neat thought.
      If anyone wanted more detail on why I don't buy the "deliberate fire plan" version of events, I made my own post to that effect.

    I think that the flauros actually augments Alessa's powers and makes her lose control of it.
    If i am not wrong, on origins a demon is trapped inside the flauros, but in SH1, which is chronologically after SH0, the flauros is used in Alessa.
    It's as if the flauros is actually forcing the demon into Alessa.
    And i dare to say that " *that demon* " is actually the seed of The Cult's God, and the ritual would not be completed at the final-fight if not for the Flauros.

  • @rickxama
    @rickxama Před 5 lety +12

    In another level alessa is a powerful goddess, she created another being using part of her soul and still she was able of creating the other world and all its entities. To me, alessa already is the goddess they tried to summon, alas, their ignorance to this created all the mess and made them evoke a false God, multiple times. This demon used the order to enter the world. Just a thought....

    • @JabamiLain
      @JabamiLain Před 4 lety +3

      Actually, when she was born, the city transfered its powers to her, in order to ensure that the time paradox which happens in the first game is maintained so that the city is born. Alessa isn't meant to be God's incarnation, she's meant to be Her mother in order to raise Her so when she comes to adulthood, she brings paradise in the right way, not the Cult's.

      I always figured she was a combination of alessa and Cheryl, this she did feel love. The love he had for his daughter, and this is why she entrusts him with a new baby. Not because she wants heather to go through what she ends up going through, but to give back to harry. She dies but lives on.
      Both of them get another chance at happiness.

    • @Steve-yn3cs
      @Steve-yn3cs Před 10 měsíci +2

      @@sabrinareese3880 Yes. If you want the optimistic aspects of the story. A pessimistic Interpretation of this is that the Incubator is actually "God"(I saw this in the book of lost memories). So, the idea was that God sort of tricked Harry into giving him a chance to come back again and be reborn.
      Aside from that, if we wanted to go by this theory, Alessa failed and died alone, trying to give her other self another chance at life, which sort of backfires as it gets the only person valuable in her life killed. Regardless, she won in the end.
      I know that Alessa is Cheryl, but the image of that part of her dying in her own nightmarish world after years of abuse is somewhat depressing.

      TS was influenced by Aztec religion, Left-Handed occultism, and demonology. There’s also some pretty clear influences from Lovecraft (a black magic using cult from a small town bringing an eldritch god into this world).
      It seems clear that the being the Order calls “God” feeds off pain and suffering, so keeping Alessa alive would’ve been necessary to further feed their god. Claudia even outright states that Heather had to nourish “God” with all the pain, suffering, and hate in her heart. Claudia’s logic is that a god born of suffering would be more compassionate to humans, but Dahlia and earlier Order members likely had other ideas.

    Alessa didn't create Cheryl, she IS Cheryl. Alessa split her soul to weaken her powers so "god" wouldn't be born
    the ritual happened in the alter room not the second floor
    the burning was an accident and caused Alessa to be moved to Alchemilla to save her life
    you used origins to further explain the situation and ended up taking data from a source that had no input from Team Silent

    Nice video. Warning: impending fandom style nitpick! Heh. I can understand trying to be evenhanded with all the games, and go with what they seem to agree on. But they don't. I know a lot of fans go with this version, with the ritual involving Alessa being deliberately burned alive... probably because it sounds more evil (extracting magic power out of a child against her will apparently not being evil enough by itself). But that version cemented by Origins (a game I really like in lots of other ways) still bothers me. Basically, this doesn't add up in my mind:
    I'm Dahlia.
    My daughter Alessa has magical powers.
    I want them.
    I know a ritual that can get them.
    I am in league with the boss of the main hospital.
    He has a sub-basement full of fireproof concrete rooms clearly not in frequent use.
    This is an area he successfully stops the regular hospital staff from going into.
    This would be the perfect place to do a ritual that involves burning someone alive.
    I'll do it there. Obviously. Why anywhere else?
    Or...
    I could perform the ritual in my own house, which is made of wood.
    Lose my own house. Which I live in. Not anyone else's house!
    Cause a huge piece of news that draws unwanted public attention specifically toward me and my activities.
    Possibly even risk someone intervening (hallo Travis).
    Somehow get Alessa out of the building myself... who I'm not physically strong enough to pull without her cooperation, as shown in a scene in SH1.
    Not have anyone waiting to collect us in an ambulance after we escape the blaze.
    On my own, on foot, somehow get her all the way across town to that hospital, without drawing further unwanted attention. Nothing to see here, folks!
    And only THEN begin trying to keep her alive. Which I clearly desperately need to succeed at, in order for this whole thing to work.
    And... I'll have the police fabricate evidence of a boiler explosion. To cover this up.
    Or...
    The ritual doesn't involve burning her alive. Nothing of the sort.
    Thus, I don't have any reason to imagine my house will burn down.
    This eliminates any bad consequence of doing the ritual in my own house. Basically I could perform it anywhere.
    Once I'm done, I'll have my cult friends pop by casually, which I'm not panicked about, since there's no way anyone saw this happen.
    ... but then...
    Oh no! I mistakenly underestimate the immediate raw power of her magic!
    This causes a boiler to explode during the ritual, which starts a fire.
    None of this went according to plan.
    Now I have to deal with these unintended consequences, for which I am unprepared.
    Now seriously, what makes most sense? The first one that agrees with "burning alive ritual", and adds up, but never happened in any of the games? The second one that agrees with "burning alive ritual", and is Origins's version of events, that doesn't add up whatsoever? Or the third one, that disagrees with "burning alive ritual", just has it be a type of ritual not involving fire, is SH1's version of events, and has no logic problems at all? I just plain and simply can't see someone shown to be as plotting, deliberate and manipulative as Dahlia be so inexplicably stupid.

    • @thegamingmuse
      @thegamingmuse  Před 6 lety +6

      I don't think Dahlia is stupid, I think she is unhinged. She's unpredictable and irrational, and it's clear in SH1 that's the impression they want us to have of her - think of her outfit, barefoot, with a robe and a tie. I agree that the ritual itself, the way it is performed in Origins, doesn't make sense, but I don't think it's implausible if we consider that Dahlia herself wasn't acting rationally. Also, it was a pretty sure way to make Alessa disappear - the town thought she died in the fire. Taking her to the hospital alive, and having her disappear there would be much more suspicious. I think your idea makes sense, but I can see how the Origins version would play out.

    • @Torthrodhel
      @Torthrodhel Před 6 lety +1

      Hmm. I guess I just see her as too deliberate and organized to sabotage her own plans in that way. Just from the sheer lengths she goes to try and manipulate Harry (yes, including how she presents herself). One game arguing with another game is always going to lead to that kind of fandom split I suppose. And it's a lot less overtly shown in SH1, more just clued-at. So I guess I do understand people going with the Origins take on it.
      I don't see someone dieing in a hospital as suspicious though. Just off the top of my head - accidental poisoning. Aglaophotis. Playing by herself in the garden, nobody knew the plant was growing there, mother found her too late to rush her to the hospital in time. Clean, believable, expert opinion, no public spectacle, middle page news story at worst. Or any other of the many reasonable explanations a hospital director / drug emperor could come up with. Seems like a long list.
      Or y'know... not all rituals have to involve immolation! Whatever happened to just some spooky chanting and the sprinkling of weird ingredients? The odd violent slap here and there, bit of bloodletting, maybe some light gyromancy. :)
      I suppose I just don't know why that game felt the inclination to fix what wasn't broken, with something that is.

      main deity being a sun god.
      So, yeah, I'd say Alessa's was a deliberate immolation. Yes, burnt down house, but why would Dahlia care about that when God's birth would usher in Paradise? Besides, there's always that Chapel by the amusement park!

      It doesn't, that's true, and it's my least favorite of the games, but it's possibly to glean things from the game which are interesting or relevant without going too off course. I try to incorporate the entire mythos from all the games as much as I can, while also being aware that some of them aren't as well designed.
