Thank you so much for the extremely thorough step by step tutorial, couldn’t have done it without you!
Bro, many thanks! This video saved me big time. The only v5 vid and the correct model y too. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Just happy to help bro! Glad it worked out
I like this version (v5) and what I also did, I detached the small speaker after adjusting the speed. Nice video! Many greetings from Switzerland 🇨🇭
Thank you! And yeah, that speaker is pretty loud
Great video. Thanks for explaining it for beginners like myself
Happy to help!
Good video, nice to see one with the updated Hansshow kit. One thing, I wouldn't have fully disconnected the battery in that way... better to simply hold it in place firmly while slipping the harness connectors under the nuts and refastening immediately. Also, you may want to point out that the hood when finished latching should be ever so slightly lower for aerodynamic purposes.
great information Sir. Thank you.
Didn't lock back the orange clip on the daisy chain part on the hinge. Great video.
bravissimo. saluti dall'italia.
VERY helpful! The module and wiring have changed significantly AGAIN since you published this video but you greatly helped my install since other how-to videos' components are drastically different and the provided written instructions are not only ancient and almost irrelevant but also have blurry photos and skip crucial steps.
The new module doesn't have a button on the face like yours did, but rather has a silicon strip on the edge opposite the connector that protects some kind of port plus the LED plus a tiny button that you kind of have to already know is there. You just press a nub on the silicone strip to actuate the button the same way as you describe in the video.
The connector from the wires to the module is completely different and no longer includes that nifty little lever to lock it down. It's now much more like any other connector.
Also, rather than being a separate piece the splice-in wire for the OEM motor is now incorporated into that mess of wires that connect to the main module.
With the large HEPA filter on my 2023 Model Y I couldn't mount the main module where you did. I ended up mounting it on the interior of the passenger wheel well where there were no other wires in the way and using the double sided tape to mount it vertically on a slight angle so I could plug in the wire connector without interfering with the filter. I took advantage of one of the several holes through the wheel well to run a screw through one of my module anchor brackets and used some old rubber spacers and blue loctite to solidly anchor it to the car.
Thanks for this very detailed update! I'm sure it will help others that are getting this newest version and have the HEPA filter like you. 🙌
Just Installed on our New 2024 M Y Fremont version. Works great only took ~2-Hours. U would definitely recommend. (New controller version, Button is on the side - white silicone cover with button located on white silicone cover, also Red LED shows thru Silicone cover)
Thanks for sharing the updates!
Glad they made the wire harness longer , I have the previous version and it’s super short and can only mount it under the bumper-looks like they decided to copy the EV offer version
Newest update on older car with lead battery and not lithium ion battery. Very helpful indeed
Sorry for the confusion! The only difference is the lithium ion battery has one slightly different connection. You can see a photo of this in this blog: blog.tesbros.com/install-hansshow-power-funk-2023-tesla-model-y/
Thanks for the very detailed video. Can you add a detail view for connecting the fuse the lithium 12v battery that is on the newer model Y?
there's a photo of that connection on our blog: blog.tesbros.com/install-hansshow-power-funk-2023-tesla-model-y/
You can take out the plastic clips that hold the wiper trim on. Then pull up a little on that trim to get much more room to see and put your hand and tools in there to get the shock bolt out and bracket in. Just an FYI. You did it the hard way 😊
Good tip for others!
Great video, thanks for putting this together. How come the light on the button stopped working at the very end of the video? Also, are you able to show the functionality of the emergency cable? We saw it installed but never tested. Thanks!
Thanks for asking these questions! The light is on now. It was off for a second as it was powering up since it was just reconnected. If you pull the cable, it'll release the latch to open it up manually. Would you like to see a video of this part?
Yes please
thanks for the content. question on durability since I see comments here or on other platforms that the hansshow v5 system has some issues after time. Did you experience anything similar or yours is still up and smoothly running?
I haven't had any issues on this car or my last Model Y that also had a power frunk
Thanks for the video! How is it holding up? Any reliability issues?
Still going strong!
This was a super helpful video. Thank you!
Two questions: 1) when the frunk is closing and gets about 10” from being done it drops suddenly. It is not smooth like in the video. I’ve tried resetting the controller but it continues to do this.
2) I cannot get the passenger side to not sink too low. Can I adjust the length of the struts? I don’t want to try unless that is an OK thing to do.
Have you made sure the brackets are in the correct orientation? This might help with both problems. And no, can't change the length of the struts
@@tesbros Thanks for the feedback. I'll check that and keep working the problem. Take care!
Good luck!
Does it gives problems with the new battery instead of the old 12v one ? Wondering if the 2023 Berlin cars are identical to install ? Just received my quicksilver y performance and looking in to this autofrunk.
It's the same install except for that power connection being slightly different. There's a photo in our blog of what that connection looks like on the 16v - blog.tesbros.com/install-hansshow-power-funk-2023-tesla-model-y/
우와 한국분!! 잘보고갑니다^^
Everything went well and no matter what I do how many times I reset I can't get this thing to close on its own. It makes the unlocking mechanism sound but won't actually come down via power. Is it an ECU problem? Is there a reason for the two extra plugs the d6?
If it's not coming down and the ECU has power, it's most likely the brackets aren't aligned properly or the struts aren't in good
Had to locate the control module to a different location due to my Model Y hepa filter unit.
I forgot about that. Where did you end up putting it?
@@tesbros I forgot to take a picture of it. Where you mounted it on top of that cross brace I mounted it behind it. Between the brace and the, I guess the firewall if that is what it is called. It is in ICE cars. Not sure what the EV term is.
Im assuming because of all of the pass-thru cabling that ties into existing cables, that this will still work to open the fronk from the inside of the vehicle?
Yes, you can use the touchscreen to open it and close it
What is the solution to connect to the new 2023 MYLR 16V LITHIUM BATTERY?
Is it true the new 16V battery set up detects the draw and causing it to throw errors?
I'm not aware of the errors but if you reach out to support@tesbros.com, we can send you the PDF on how to connect to the 16v.
I am looking at having this done to my 2023 Model X. My question is, will it impact the warranty (for the battery) since it’s aftermarket?
No and it is easily reversible. Also look into Magnuson-Moss Act that states that aftermarket parts does not void warranty.
My main power is part is not receiving power idk why I put the positive and negative correct idk what to do
It's possible you have a bad control unit. I would contact Hansshow if it's not getting any power
Hmmmm what if I have a model y from Austin??? The kit I ordered from hansshow didn’t come with brackets for the struts. Does that mean model y from Austin don’t need brackets for the struts ?
We haven't installed one on the Austin build unfortunately. Reach out to Hansshow support if you have questions with install. Sorry we couldn't be helpful!
Will there be any installation service for this? Also does this void warranty?
No, this is a DIY product. You might could find a shop that works on Teslas and is familiar with this that could install it for you. It does not void warranty.
There is one for sale for a model Y in my area but I have model 3 will it fit?
No it'll be slightly different
What would you adjust for the center of the hood sticking up slightly
If the center is sticking up but the rest is fine, it's possible the brackets being misaligned could cause that middle to buckle. Check your brackets first and make sure they are sitting correctly and securely tightened. If that seems fine, incrementally adjust your latch to line up horizontally and then focus on vertically. Checking one aspect at a time really helped me.
@@tesbros thanks I did notice my driver side bracket for the struts doesn’t sit flush up against the body of the car and it bends a little maybe I’ll stick a washer on that side to see if it fixes. Thoughts on the rubber height adjuster
A lot of people say not to buy these bc the hood can come up whole driving or if a side fails to open it will bent the hood. Have you heard of anything like this?
No, haven’t heard of either. It opens from the latch, so it either opens or doesn’t. There aren’t sides to it where one side can open and one can’t.
Question, can anyone just undo the tow hook cover, pull the cord, and get inside of the frunk while the car is locked and parked?
The alarm will go off if someone tries. However, the frunk cannot be opened through the emergency cable - it only unlocks the electric suction lock if it's burnt out and in suction state. So, it would release that so you can open the frunk with the app or touchscreen.
I ran into an issue after installing. When closing the frunk, the passenger side has a bigger gap than the driver side. How do you adjust that? Also before I put the frunk bucket in, it closes properly. After I put the bucket in, it closes down and popups higher not flat. Anyone was having the same issue able to help me out? Thanks.
Have you tried adjusting the latch? If you loosen the two bolts and raise it up, this might fix both issues. You might have to adjust a few times before it fits exactly right with no gaps.
@@tesbros I'll try your recommendations and let you know if it works. Thanks for help.
I bought a Y that already had the kit installed, but it's not closing properly now. The frunk is coming down, but I have to push it to shut it like it's a factory setup. Do you have any ideas for troubleshooting this issue?
Have you tried moving the latch up? Maybe where it grabs is too low
@@tesbros I have the 4.3 version, and found out the suction control box isn't water proof, and it was full of water. The original installer mounted it in a bad position, so I have a replace coming.
My 2023 (Fremont) MODEL Y LR does not have a conventional battery as the one in your video. It has a 16V LION battery with no real way to access its terminals... so???? What do you recommend?
Check out the link in the description that goes to the blog. There’s a photo there of what the connection is supposed to look like. Let me know if that helps.
@@tesbros Thanks - I did connect it to the orange plastic covered 16VDC positive terminal hanging from the cowling, I was a bit concerned to connect a 12V device to a 16V source. So far it seems to be fine. I did have 6 leftover parts that appear no where in the installation manual or this video. (1)An stainless steel tipped, orange plastic covered steel cable about 2' long, (2)&(3) two different small Phillips fine threaded screws, (4)a weird looking double looped fine steel cable with a spring and a red funnel shaped plastic cover, (5) & (6)and a couple 3" x 6" pieces of double side foam tape. No idea where they would go...
I’m in the middle of this install, how do you connect it to the positive?
@@TexasBrew the cable is new, idk what its for, the foam tape is for the mcu box, he used zip ties for his, i will be usong the tape and zip ties, its so the box doesnt shake.
Do you make one for the model S?
Hansshow does have a kit for the Model S - www.hautopart.com/collections/model-s-accessories/products/tesla-model-s-power-frunk - but we don't have a video on it yet. It's very similar to the process in this MY video though. Here's Hansshow's latest video on Model S plaid install that hopefully helps too - czcams.com/video/SOhWr7c02dU/video.html
Can the frunk be opened if the strut or control unit fails?
There is a fail safe cord that you'll install in the tow hook area that allows you to open it without power
The fail safe cord will release the latch...but what about the struts? Aren't they motorized so will the frunk be able to be pulled opened without power?@@tesbros
@@hirc2007 yes you’ll still be able to open without power to the struts
Looks like Hansshow upgraded the kit again (still V5). Apart from the fuse cable, everything is all connected to the main cable harness now. Also, the controller box is different.
Q: What are the 2 smaller bolt for (not the larger bolts holding the strut brackets)? They're shown still in the plastic bag in your video.
Q: When using the Tesla app, I cannot get the frunk to close. It works just fine to open. The screen controls inside the car works fine too (open/close)
Any help on these?
i contacted hansshow they are aware of this and told me they are working on a solution..but who knows how long..
How long did it last? I know 3 owners that after 4 months they had to take it off. Issues? The struts started to fall off, and to detach from base
I put it on my previous Model Y and it was on for over a year before the car was totaled. I've only had this one on for a couple of months now. Haven't had any issues. I would say to make sure the bracket placement is correct; that seems to be an issues for some people.
Unfortunately, I learned the hard way that this part does not fit the 2022 model Y, that was built in Austin, TX
Whats that button on the light? Did you install that?
Not sure what you're referring to. What's the time on the video?
@TESBROS nevermind! I literally didn't know the light button was also an emergency release.
does it sense if there is an obstacle ?
I actually just stuck my arm under it to see what happens for ya, and it lightly touched my arm and opened back up
@@tesbros nice!
Go Desto... hold that hood... 🙂
that was a huge help right there!
Can you install for me? I leave in FL Miami
I think we're a little far away from you in Chattanooga TN!
I’m in Nashville. If I made a road trip to Chat, could you do opener install?
Does this mean anyone can open the frunk now with the emergency release cable?
Good question. The frunk cannot be opened through the emergency cable - it only unlocks the electric suction lock if it's burnt out and in suction state. So, it would release that so you can open the frunk with the app or touchscreen.
@@tesbros awesome, thanks for the reply. I have the kit, just waiting for my Y to come in next week. This video is very helpful!
Will this mod, void the warranty?
No and it is easily reversible
Maybe a stupid question; if someone watches me open my frunk and sees that it's an automatic, therefore aftermarket version, wouldn't that give potential thieves an easy target to everything in my frunk using the emergency release?
That’s a good question. Yes, if they know about the emergency release then that’s a possibility. But If your car is locked when someone tries to open the Frunk like that, the alarm should go off
Will this kit fit the Austin built front gigacast 4680 battery model y awd?
yes
Not the kit you sent me. The strut brackets don't seem to fit.
The front end is different from the video show
@@robertwilson9947 Can you send photos to support@tesbros.com? We’d love to help you get this resolved
Photographs sent
the lights didnt turn on at the end
Which lights?
HANSHOW IS RETIRING THIS PORDUCT? WHY? IS SUITABLE FOR MODEL Y 2023?
It's suitable for all Model Ys except for the Austin built giga cast Model Y
I will pay for this for a model S
Here's a link to buy the Model S power frunk. We'll add the MS power frunk instructional to our list, but the basics will be the same as in this video if that helps. www.hautopart.com/products/tesla-model-s-power-frunk?gclid=CjwKCAiA2rOeBhAsEiwA2Pl7Q01EA3z6A9y_ZZrwytQ3Qh6wiwUhdfdbAFHuvtiN-q8654b_3jWGrBoCiOAQAvD_BwE
This is too much work I’ll break something wish I could pay someone to install this
You could call around to shops in your area and see if anyone is familiar with this install
Install video was not the best. I've done one of these before, so I felt it would just be a refresher but I'd follow along, listen / watch instructions and then do it. Then I'd come back to the video and move on, only to hear you say "but before you do that, do something else". Super annoying.
Also terrible that there isn't any info on wiring, other than12v. You could have at least referenced a diff video for another model vehicle. 😥
Hansshow makes cheap trash, you’ll be lucky if this thing still works in 6 months. Do not buy their junk.
