The glass bottles years ago you could exchange for money(20p) in Scotland and were called “a glass cheque” basically a recycling incentive
You might not be aware, Jack and Victor's pun entry of "Scone-ay no dae that" is a reference to their sketch show "chewin the fat" as one of the sketches was 2 lighthouse keepers and one was always annoying the other leading to gin saying "gonnae no dae that?" "how?" (which is how Scottish people ask "why" sometimes) "just gonnae no" it isn't funny written down but that was the most popular catchphrase in Scotland for years when the show was on. The characters of Jack and Victor came from that show too

Haven't seen your vids past this one yet but just in case you've no been telt or switched to Netflix - Meena is supposed to have subtitles! Her comebacks are usually 10/10 and always translated. IDK why those vids don't have it but def move to a stream with her subs if you can/haven't already. Anyways, enjoying the watch so far, thank you!
About the 'gingies' - those are 1L glass bottles of Irn-Bru. You get them for about 79p to £1, depending on the shop. It used to be that you could hand them in at any shop for 30p while they were sent back to the company for reuse, so you would get a good portion of your money back. It was like its own currency for children. You'd have parents giving their children bags with a few gingies in them to pay at the shop instead of money. It was stopped at the end of 2015 because Barrs decided it 'was no longer economical' to do the recycling - they wanted to save money. It lasted 110 years.
Dunnes and Garvies still does it although barrs has took over.
The amount you got for them must have changed at some point prior to it being stopped. It was 20p when I was growing up. I remember searching the streets for discarded ones as a kid and trading them in at the shop for two 10p mixtures (paper bags containing ten 1p sweets) per bottle. Good times.
It's a pity they stopped doing it but apparently, the government are thinking about bringing it back for all drinks cans and bottles (according to newspapers in 2019). I hope they do.
