- Settlers of the Slab City community live with no power or running water. It's a cheap life for those trying to get back on their feet, but it can be dangerous

Hippie: we don’t own guns
Fire chief: I’ve been shot at multiple times
And to think that Joseph Wabaugh said everyone loves a fireman.
I like the dude who said their health is better there. The guy with the smokers voice and a cigarette in his hand.
Been there. Lasted around a month in 2017. Absolutely awful place. People praising and wanting to go to this place in the comments have absolutely no idea what they are talking about. Riddled with drugs, rapes, arsons, even one or two murders. DO NOT GO HERE.
Wow - sounds almost as bad as Chicago, Baltimore, Los Angeles, or just about any other big city.
Cool place to visit; the 'Range' entertainment stage, the hot springs, Salvation Mountain...but I wouldn't want to live there.
So they get a welfare check once a month. Why does that bother you? I'd be more worried about the endless wars, no bid contracts and banker bailouts. For all you know, these people could have paid into the system for years and are now finally getting something back. Some of them could have their own pensions(i.e military) and yes some of them could have been free loaders their whole lives. Anything is possible. It amazes me you people don't complain about the money spent on empire building.
Welfare checks they can spend for themselves, no rent, landlord, or house payments, no utility bills. Off grid, name of the game.
I think all whotes should relocate back to europe tbh. Take your trash with ya
Better than a regular city.Gavins Newsome is so proud of his homeless.
just visited. many kind souls are there
It's never smart to fool around with meth. But out in 120 plus degree weather? That's totally insane! You need to stay hydrated, lots of water, and not baked out of your mind on meth or other dope!
I can tell Slab City will be the norm in times to come. Glad I setup my home in the Mountains of Montana 43 years ago.
In can never become the norm. My great grandparents never had electricity or running water, had a garden, raised their own livestock... Get real.
People lived no different than this 150 years ago, only they could buy their drugs at the local apothecary. Heroin, cocaine, alcohol and opium were available without a prescription until 1914 and weed was legal until 1937.
43 years ago? What are you worried about sounds like you don't have much time left any way.
This place looks awesome .
Just let them live, they're just minding their own business really
those kids were living in a tent in 2011 & I gave them the motor home .The State comes out there and takes the children that are neglected, most of the people just want to survive, but there are some areas you stay away from just like any City. I lived there for almost two years, very hard.
It is interesting to me that so many people choose to congregate rather than get away and live as a recluse. If you are truly tired of the city life why retreat to another where the conditions are harsh and forbidding. Why not be free and live out where you are truly free and have no obligations to be social. I suspect that many people want to live free of work and responsibility but not free of all of the benefits and conveniences that work and responsibility provide.
TheTexn it was too crowded for me. But ive visited 3 times. Always had a great day looking at the art hiking around but im glad i dont live there. Its very windy and far away from conveniences like laundry, hardware store and if you get stuck in the sand it will cost $500 to get a tow truck out there.
Humans are social creatures. Most people like having other people around to interact with. Who in their right mind wants to live like a hermit in the desert?
My father was the self proclaimed prophet in the 80's. It's literally hell on earth. Horrifying things happen to children out there. Most children are robbed of education and groomed to be prostitutes! I got out at 10 years old and couldn't even read. It's a pedophiles dream.
Omg I would be terrified being in a place like this..it's no place I would want to spend 5 minutes,i saw on another video about this place , if someone gets a grudge against you they burn ur motor home an set it on fire!!
That was the home of a pedophile.
It may interest you to know that a large percentage of people that live there are retirees with a large net worth. This is a multifaceted area and a 5 minute video can't begin to describe the amount and kind of people that are there.
I personally don't find living like this very attractive, but I'm glad there is a place that people can go and choose to live as they wish. From the video's I've watched there seems to be a change in the type of person that calls Slab City home, it seemed that the carefree hippy and art driven folks that once dominated the city has been changing. I find that more and more of the videos are talking about the meth heads who are moving in and changing the trust and community feeling that once bonded these folks. I wish you all well and hope that influx of the meth heads don't destroy what you have created.
This place never really claimed to be off the grid living..its more of a tent city
I would not feel safe leaving my home to make a run to town for fear all my stuff would be gone when I returned . No one is more dishonest than a dope addicts .
Yeah, that place is a mess! Slob City!
There is a guy who rents large (i think 100 gallon) water tanks that he will fill up for 15-20 dollars for you. That plus solar power means you can have a pretty comfortable life there. More wealthy folks with large RVs even have satellite dishes, it's pretty common to see a couple sitting on a couch in their RV watching CNN at night. Kinda funny actually.
Tron's Travels Yeah and they also get robbed...sounds lk heaven....Theres a video on here a guy took on his last day (he d been there 30 days and had enough )...His neighbors had their solar panels stolen during the night, well hell who else is up during the night by the meth heads,...After calling the police he noticed just how clever they are...All the guy and cops had to do is follow the idiots FOOTPRINTS👣👣👣 back to their ole broken down rusty R.V. LMAO..Easily BUSTED
Happens in Beverly Hills also...
Yet If i buy 40 acers i cant build a dry Cabin with out permits or a septic in north cal wtf smh
The socialist state has an agenda, private property stands in their way. They fear capitalism.
Sure you can just don't let the state find out
Im glad this is showing the real slab city. I personally think its a beautiful thing. Weve all gotten so accustomed to the follow the leader mentality thats the norm. So we see this as abnormal, or gross. Well i say more power to them. They're not using enough to truly hurt anyone, or to take from the working man. If u know anyone from there, youll know whats up. Its not what u think. I think it takes a strong person. So whatev. Sending love from my working family. 💜
My father was the self proclaimed prophet in the 80's. It's literally hell on earth. Horrifying things happen to children out there. Most children are robbed of education and groomed to be prostitutes! I got out at 10 years old and couldn't even read. It's a pedophiles dream.
So crazy to look at the Slab and see it becoming gentrified with nice RV's, etc.
WOW,that was eye opening!
Many thanks, and may GOD bless them all:)
Cheers;)
Thanks!
I think there are many good people there in Slab city, it's just a feeling.
Looks like a hot horrible dirty nightmare.
4:49 Great idea!
“ we don’t own guns or none of that garbage”
Next week:
“ unarmed man shot dead over pile of garbage”
Insightful. Hoping all the best to the families looking to get back on their feet :)
I was going to buy property, but there were homeless people living on it. Thus, I walked away, not wanting the drama. And that was in the North East.
Excellent work 👍 Guys stay free
I can almost hear that Tina Turner song;'We don't need another hero'.
Moving to Slab City
Did you move there ??
I wonder if Slab City will see more "drifters" since all the California fires. If so, it will be interesting to know how they adapt.
Kimberly Mack the people who had house in fire will not end up here but in an RV park somewhere
Very well done
Very well filmed, curated, and presented.
I wonder how many of these "free" people are living off of taxpayer money. At the very least, they're on government land. They aren't self reliant.
Government land is public land... It belongs to all citizens.
.....Like your smile..... Love your style.....!!
Water and waste, the two damn near insurmountable problems.
There should be more places like Slab City.
There ARE many places like this! Move to one.
They are called 'third world countries'
Their will be if we don’t build the wall
San Francisco?
Deep Water it’s closer to San Diego
@Cliff Yablonski quartzite the heat retreat for the old folks in the North it's not a lowlife town.
But still, where do they get water?
Cricket bread, nope! Those are bugs and bugs have - well - germs, sorry. Love the garden area.
Not a place 4 women & children the gates of hell
This is where they can build a homeless shelter , rehab center and mental illness institutions.
Good luck to the kids ...
Hard times...
Eight kids Yikes God Bless.
The fire marshal looks like Skinner from X-Files... brothers?
That's a sulfur hot springs. I don't think you can drink it. most people have Charlie deliver water or haul their own from the gas station in town.
Charlie filled my TT with a tank in bed up in the lows for $10 twice...that's 80 gals..
All of these videos about Slab City are interesting.
One thing that is almost never mentioned is how Slab City manages human waste. Each video reminds there is no running water, but there is no mention of sewage treatment or handling of human waste. There seems to be a lot of people out there and one would think they'd need to take precautions about maintaining sanitary conditions.
+Wood ward They compost waste in East Jesus. The motorhomes use their own facilities, then dump it ... somewhere where they find a dumping area in another town. Some people dig holes or use "honey pots" and dump the pots into holes.
+Johnniee Larue They do as they please. I'm sure some are trying to be sanitary, but there are no rules.. think about it. I live near there, and it is known to be a dangerous place. Plus it's in the desert. Why it's free, nobody else wants to live there.
With the advent of the internet it's becoming glorified.
where do you think baby poop has gone forever and a day
So gross
They built outhouse like in Alaska!
I'm in Santa Monica and if anyone is headed that way let me know.
my father past january 2 2013 i saw this video relized my father is in it
Wow really, thst mustve been crazy for you. Im sure nice to have this as a memorabilia. Xo
👍👍🙃🙃🙃🙃
Wow that’s crazy
Earthship
So how does one deal with a stink or bite from a deadly viper or scorpion? Where do you go for help or how do you get the help to save your life and the excuciating pain?
I think Tiger Woods and Arnold Palmer helped design that golf course.
7 of 8 kids. That is the problem.
STERILIZATION WORKS
I wanna go to the slab
THe guy with the cross is way too cool.
Desperate times bring desperate measures.
3:51 Vince Neil in 10 years!
a true result of the mecca of liberaism
Hear hear!
keep up it guys. anything to escape the rat race and working for "the man." peace
N5XTC keep up it............ 😂
Agree
7 of our 8 kids ended up out here
2-3k per month, it's a bit more than that in Seattle...
4:11 Yeah. I don't think so. Could be why you are living in a VAN DOWN BY NO RIVER!!!
is there update on this family
At this point, it's mostly drug addicts and criminals, but I like this video! It shows that there are many normal people who are just down on their luck.
Some people just vacation in the winter there, they aren't homeless, they just don't like cold winters.
I love the people I hope and pray for them to get back on their feet
seems like great people to me..
I am thinking of buying an old travel trailer and moving there. Only problems I see is how would I fill up the freshwater tank? And how to pump out the grey and blackwater tanks? If anyone could advise it would be great thanks.
Now access to water is easy. A tank comes around selling it and solar panels and batteries used for electric. They make their own outhouses and even some have showers. It is quite modernized now.
Home of the misfit "toys". Actually seems like a reasonable solution. No one else wants them.
I would love to live off the grid, but not with a bunch of drug addicts and free loaders.
Or retired school teachers, full-time travelers, and people who just want to see more and have more experiences? You create your own experience when you are there, and my experience has been that you are as cautious and careful as you would be in anyone else's back yard. I''ve also always found any kind of help and kindness among the people there in times of distress. You 'get back' what you invest in most situtations, whether in the slums of Chicago, the ghettos of huge cities, or when you try to participate in Mardi Gras, which has caught many people unaware. I've lived off the grid there, and in many other places. People are all different. Just be careful wherever you may roam, especially on the main streets of festival cities! I hope you get a great opportunity to have an "off the grid experience" in your travels, too.
They wouldn't want to live with you either, so you lose there. IT is judgements like yours that keep people down. Fuckhead.
no electricity? was like 1000 watts of solar on top
If i had money to buy a camper I would love to move there
1:43
applause to that lady
I would love to live there! Seriously, I bet it's alot of fun.
Crystal Meth don't play around - makes for bad neighbors.
This is beautiful the world needs more freedom and love this is one of the last places on Earth because people are crazy in this world and there's too many laws and there's good things about them and there's also bad things about anything can be good it's just all about how you feel like for instance are you okay with being with one woman or many Slab City is the place to go nice and healthy and beautiful it's all just freedom love baby just love
Wonderful place although the meth heads are screwin it up.
-The last free place on earth
Last I checked the government hasn't given me or anybody I met at the slabs 1 cent!
***** And what government aid is that exactly? There's not even running water there you idiot.
No welfare & food stamps either since no one has a physical address.
Don't judge unless you've been there.
@@Xplorer228 yes they do get government checks that are picked up at Niland Post office.
meth heads screw everything up.
i went there on a field operation for the military man these guys are crazy as mofos
You should explain. Why is the military doing field operations out there?
@@markflierl1624 it is technically federal property if I remember correctly it was some sort of military post decades ago
I read a article a few weeks ago that Slab City is being tore down and evacuated. Any truth to this?
I pray to people slabcity get better life later..
In this Video Vince Neill said he was there when he was a boy , Not true ,He had never heard of slab city until I Told him about it in 2011 , When he was there he kept getting into other peoples business till several guys told him he had 48 hours to leave the slabs or he would be killed, he headed for LA
Should make that slab city a little nicer. Get rid of rubbish all those old TVs etc
Do you know Jay hames I think he lives down their along salton sea
Mostly criminals running from the law stay there.Very few good people live there.
I'm sure Starbucks will open one there.
Trevor phillips wiped out the bikers
Remember what goes around comes around I have no remorse for these people at all they should have planned it future a little better
I hope i can also be a Fire Fighter at slab city.
Sure..light the fire, then go put it out, never out of work that way...LOL
I went out there. Quite rude people. If you want solitude do not move there. Its gawlking tourist trap and its growing.
Back in the 60s we used another name for places like this.
How do you get money
Do the police come out if you are in trouble? That could be a very dangerous place to live in.
How do they get money
Squatter city. No work, no water no toilets. Skid row.
slab city = misery loves company
New Name for the Washington Red skinz
Hey buddy how you doing I'm still playing the guitar
Did the families manage to leave Slab City? ⛄️
+Gregory Johnson Good question!
we need a new video
These people that have a little bit. How do they handle the bums and beggars.
