One thing I have learned over the years of traveling is to NEVER hire/rent a car. I prefer to use public transport if it’s too far for my feet to take me. Driving in areas you’re not familiar with can be very stressful. So, I’ll pass on that stress to the bus driver, and/or taxi driver so I can get on with a hopefully restful holiday.
I agree - so much less stress (and cost!)
We did bus travel when we were over for 8 weeks a few years ago. It worked pretty well actually apart from the bus connection between Puerto Pollensa and old town Pollensa which was a bit hit and miss!
Thanks for the info Alex.👍
Thanks for the info Alex 👍
Aaaah thanks Alex. You’re a star!
good advice, thanks, were coming over and staying in Alcudia in 2 weeks time
Thanks so much for the ‘warning’. I was under the impression before I’d watched this video that driving a car to any destination I wanted to go to at any time would be the most convenient option. How wrong was I? Learning that there’d be other cars on the road was a game changer. Much better to be on a bus on the very same roads…. What a great tip!👍🏽
You’re welcome !
Fantastic Video. Well Done.
Great information Alex thank you
Really good video Alex! I am very much looking forward to watching your bus excursion videos.
Thanks Louise !
Fantastic update Alex. You are so correct about the congestion on the roads it just gets worse each year
Took me an hour to get from palmanova to Cala mayor last week ;(
That was very informative. Cant believe how busy the roads are over there. It is getting like the UK, Well done.
Thank you for the may week ahead forcarst must be the best time to visit if you don't like the heat.
Hi a great video and i really enjoyed it so much. I love this channel and Mallorca is a place i will visit some time.
Thanks Bobby !
I try never to travel during the peak times, thanks Alex especially regarding the airport.
Another useful video Alex , thanks for the info.
40 days and counting to Cala Millor 😊👍
💃🏻
I have visited Mallorca 4 times since June 2023 and love getting about on TIB buses, I plan my journeys using the TiB timetable online ,never had any problems, planning my next visit for Sept/Oct and look forward to visiting some unseen beauty spots. Nothing ventured nothing gained.
Thanks Alex with your fabulous videos and info I feel like a resident 😂❤️
Thank you so much for posting this Lesley! And yes! It's the best way to get out to some lesser known beauty spots!
Going over 25th May Alex. Please keep giving info re weather and sun beds on beach! Thanks
Zdravíme z ČR 🇨🇿... Poučné video 👍👌
Thanks for the update, great, very informative advice as always. Can certainly endorse your views re public transport….. used it last week to travel stress free from Cala Bona to Alcudia/ Ca’n Picafort & Cala Ratjada….timetable information readily available online and excellent vfm. As an aside, buses can be busy on ‘market’ days (sardines in a tin comes to mind).
Also, I moaned about airport delays in March and the time to clear security and passport control…..cleared both within 30 minutes of arriving at the airport last Saturday morning which was a big relief.
Thanks so much for this great endorsement and you are 100% right about market days !
Thx for sharing would rather use the bus no stress great video Alex 😂
Any recomendations for transfers from PMI to Alcudia in high season around midnight?
Keep these helpful videos coming. Amazing work 👏

We are staying at the at the Fergus Style Palmanova this week and already reconsidered hiring a car after seeing the availability of parking round here. Will be bussing it into Palms, sounds much easier.
Definitely less stress Steven
Nice , we explore Marmaris in Mai
Hey alex we are here in cala dor really nice weather we went to the bus stop yesterday looking at the time table, and bus routes my wife said we could do with alex our tour guide here😊.
We saw the 570 bus goes to cala egos, and we remember your vlogg walking around the area happy holidays we love majorca.
Ha, have a fab rest of your holiday!
We are over on Tuesday June 11th for our honeymoon in Port Alcudia so I will for sure be watching your weather forecast on the 10th 😂 Thank you for the videos/updates, we’re avid viewers here lol
Thank you for watching !
Hi there, we are just back from Santa Ponsa there on Monday 6th May and the eateries in Palma airport were all open, thanks
After Duty Free yes but not in Terminal A yet
Great update Alex. I endorse what you say about the buses. Very easy to use and frequent. Do you know if they will put on extra buses for the summer season? Best wishes, John
Yes they have been going so!
Just got back from Alcudia and the weather was 23-28 degrees all week. The traffic was fine, lots of hired scooters and cars but nothing out of the ordinary. Lovely place ❤
Good evening Alex, just a quick thank you for giving me a hearted( well your channel logo) like over on the Mac Master channel. Hopefully you saw, I try never to be nasty in my comments, and in fact I always look at the humour to be found 😂🤣😉 As I said your just so damn cheerful 😁 Which is just not British 🏴. But now knowing that you're an ex-pat or something like that ( invading immigrant😱) and you may have gone native. It all makes sense. Seriously though, bits of your double act were, well fair. Any way may your channel continue to flourish. 🙏Allan&Family
Thanks so much Alan and family !
Hello from Mallorca Alex, I finally made it 🤗🌹
Have a fantastic time !!!
I've found the buses in Majorca very reliable and cheap. I'm due into Peguera next week and am thoroughly looking forward to visiting the Port D'Antratx, by bus😁.
That’s a lovely trip and if you have time head to Sant Elm too !
Thanks for the update Alex. Any idea how busy the traffic going east towards Cala Bona is? We haven't booked our journey from the airport yet. Any local suggestions for the shuttle bus? Cheers 😘😘
Heading East is fine - it’s the south west and Soller and Palma area that are the biggest pain points at the moment. It can get busy near the airport but you will be going in the right direction - away from Palma !
@@MallorcaUnderTheSun Thanks again Alex. Hope to see you around Cala Bona in early July! Can't wait👍👍
Good news Alex....they have started to put the parasols up in santa ponsa
Great to hear thanks Graham!
Just flew back from Majorca this past weekend and I second the issue with terminal A as it is just Burger King open however there is a small kiosk that is open that does drinks, pastries and baguettes which is located literally just before you get to seating area but nothing else
Great info thanks for that !
Morning all, staying on island at the moment, traffic not seemed that bad been into Palma twice this week, buses are ok but do get very busy and drivers I think go to a special school of training, STOP ...... By hitting brakes hard to see how many passengers fly down bus and other FAST FAST FAST FAST, but that is all part of the fun to be honest been coming here for many years and it seems about the same 😎. We were really lucky coming through airport mid morning was very smooth exit
Fabulous !
Why is it so busy this year? Or is it always like this at this time?
Very nice video. Thank you
Post pandemic boom ! I also noticed it getting busier from 2018 onwards
airport delays at security upon departure? any other tips on navigating the airport if your traveling within Spain?
In late July, how long will it take from Palma to the airport?
Thank you very much for the updates. Great video as always. 😊
You mean Palma city ? Depends on the time of day I guess but account do it taking 20 minutes to 45
@@MallorcaUnderTheSun Yes, Palma city. Thank you 😊
We've already booked a hire car. With two young kids waiting around for buses in the heat sounds like a nightmare.. 😱
Just take note of the congested areas/times I mentioned and I'm sure you will be fine!
What if you're staying in Cala D'Or as a base for a week and would like to visit the whole island? And getting to/from the airport? Would a car be more 'necessary'? How is the traffic from the south-east going toward the airport in the afternoons?
Has the Macmaster left yet….😂😂😂 well done for putting up with him
Weather update from Puerto Rico ( Gran Canaria) Reed hot and as I found out it’s no good for a Gateshead bloke with factor 0 on , on the plus side I enjoyed the hospital food at Arquinequin .
Don’t forget your sunscreen !
Wow wished I been sat there this morning drinking my coffee ☕ instead of at work 😞..and a question are all ways smiling and happy probably not all of the time when stuck in a traffic jam like i was for just over an hour today 🙄
Great vlog but boy was that man going a bit to fast on that e scooter
Would you recommend renting a car from airport to Cala d’or for a week at end of May? Much cheaper than taxi and bus takes much longer. Can also use it to travel to other smaller town near Cala d’or.
I would - there are fewer traffic problems on the south east.
We got a boat across from palmanova to palma city it was €30 each amazing
Now that sounds a great way to travel ! No queues there !
@MallorcaUnderTheSun it was amazing day out the boat has just started every Saturday. Check them out its called the palma city boat goes at 10am bk at around 4pm
Well I think you've got me reconsidering even coming to Majorca! We were going to include it as a part of our three week trip to Spain because we have a friend who lives there we wanted to check it out we have already booked a hotel and a rental car we don't arrive until May 24 and if it's already that bad there just to complete parking lot packed with people I don't think I have any interest in coming there Right now. I thought we were coming during the "shoulder season" but I guess not I guess in order to actually enjoy yourself on that island and be able to drive around and see anything without masses of humanity crushing into every conceivable corner you would have to come in February or later in the year October or November but then it's probably cold. Oh well thanks for posting this cause I have no interest in that at all sitting in a carfor hours trying to sightsee among hordes of other people!
I've highlighted the really congested areas where we are struggling to get around at present. It's also a fact that if you don't get to somewhere like Deia early enough, you may not be able to park and will have to drive straight through. It's a tiny historical town and we have record numbers of visitors. The south west here really has been a nightmare. But this isn't all the island. This is my honest impression. I do think it's a bit over the top to say "masses of humanity crushing into every conceivable corner" - it's not the case. Your experience in the North East, East and South coast will be different. As a resident, I'm finding driving around quite stressful at present and you may do too depending on where you are going.
You will be missed terribly .
Really helpful thank you Alex!
@@MallorcaUnderTheSunWe've just left Porto Polenca. It was very busy and the buses were packed. And the roads were full of bikes. ☹️👎
Strikes at airport - any updates on this? read about it online
👍👍😊
First time watching you listening to your hire car scenario apart from public transport are there alternatives = cycling maybe or is it too many hills , of course you might of covered all that I’m mentioning in previous videos. Take care.
Cycling is problematic here too
@@MallorcaUnderTheSun I have never been there myself but why is it problematic ?
@@kavanobrien6547 traffic! There is some great cycling here too in the mountains but I wouldn’t use this as a means of getting around . Touring is fine tho out of busy areas
@@MallorcaUnderTheSun thank you nice soul , sounds like people go there just for the weather, as said never been myself, is the weather good all year long ? Here in the uk has been the most miserable and wettest I’ve ever seen .
Thank you Alex.I hired a car in2002,to travel from Calle san Vicente to Palma Nova and back again.Never again. Can i get the tib bus cards while in Mallorca.
Use your bank card to tap on and off the bus - it’s cheaper - see the vodeo in the notes!
👏👏
We got a hire car purely because it's cheaper than the cost of airport transfers for 2 people, and you can get up and go where ever you want :) but yeah public transport also great but hire cars are great for the freedoms :)!
We're planning to get the bus to and from the airport to Palma Nova. Does the bus avoid the congestion?
Most of the buses follow the motorway - you should be fine
Thank you
omg, the roads are almost as bad as ours!
In summer yes in the areas I mentioned :(
the nights is cold ?? should i wear warm or not 🫠🫠🙂🙂
Bring a jumper or light jacket 😊
We ate coming over soon and want to use tib bus to can pastille, it that easy to do? Also go to the North, are the buses numbers easily displayed. We usually like a guided tour bus, which is best plz? Staying at santa lucia palma nova, are there any bat/bus tour companies near our hotel we can book with plz
Would love a boatctrip from palma nova too
Yes to all !
Can use you credit card on the bus for up to 5 people costs less. Just press it five times but let it register and do the same when getting off. Easy easy and cheap.
Is it not that if you travel by bus you still have delays as if you go into the congested areas you will end up in the queues of higher car people
The more cars on the road the more congested the roads will get. Also its a lot less stressful taking the bus
Does a bus go to the tops near St Salvadore
Not sure but I’ll find out
Are scooters/mopeds a better option than getting a car? Are there more parking options available for these? Thanks
It’s just the safety issue
@@MallorcaUnderTheSun thanks. Is parking more accessible for scooters or will I still encounter the same difficulty trying to find parking?
Meanwhile back in Mansfield , MacMaster is still eating fish and chips 🤣🤣
And could you by any chance send me the link to the video about moving to Mallorca 👍
It’s in the moving to mallorca playlist - changed a bit tho - golden visas coming to an end
@@MallorcaUnderTheSun But is it still possible when the golden visa stops ?
I'm going June 8th what's the weather like then?
Stay tuned
Laughing at the Guy walking through Palma in the Green Budgie Smugglers. 😂
Sounds very crowded Alex and I have just been thinking of coming out to Mallorca for a very quick visit for a couple of nights . ( Before School holidays )
I usually head up to the Pollensa area, but I know things have changed up there regarding parking etc.
We usually visit in the winter months , so summer will be somewhat different.
As you will know from living in Mallorca , ...we have literally had Puerto pollensa to ourselves !! ( Bliss )
Always liked a hire car 🚗 too, ..... thinking twice about it now though, although we have always found the approach to the Palma slightly Jammed....even in the winter months at certain times of the day.
Again, thank you for the information and warning. 👍
Howdy! Driving to the North East from the airport isn't too bad - it just gets congested around Palma in the afternoons...
Thanks for the reply Alex. 👍
What about scooter rental? Is that a good alternative?
Good question. If you stick to the coast road and avoid the motorways then maybe but personally I've seen way too many car accidents recently. I wouldn't feel safe on one... (maybe it's just me) - far too many people speeding here and causing unneccesarry accidents.
Okey, I mean the 125 cc scooters but maybe thats what you talking about to?
Don’t worry it’ll soon be October yeahh
Not sure how that will benefit many of us whose livelihoods depend on tourism
The buses are a great option, but they can be very busy. Hiring, driving & parking is too stressful, it wouldn't be a part of our holiday.
Can you buy stuff in duty free?
yes!
We cant go no on holday to spain all more now
Mallorca hot and sunny and looking beautiful Oxford where I am grey skies miserable and looking shitty and very English.
Jealous? Do bears.....
Your not really helping the car hire business
They’re not helping us and our businesses - late for appointments, missed meetings because we just don’t know if it’ll take 20 minutes or an hour and a half to go a short distance
