I have to agree with Jeff Messer's comment at the end "it's not expensive, people are just too used to Meta subsidizing now. We have to stop accepting ad driven subsidies". Seriously, while the price is not inexpensive it's cost is comparable to a new phone these days. Given that they run on basically the same hardware that doesn't feel unreasonable to me.
That said the comfort on the XRE is the best thing and the FOV is the worst. I feel the rest of the kinks will get worked out over time... the same as they did with the quest.
    I'm keeping mine.

good info, really appreciate it, right now I am feeling like it is going to be a Quest 3 for me and then a BigScreen Beyond v2/rev2-5 model. I've decided to skip the first gen beyond. I really look forward to what they can do after the Beyond ships. as their first headset I feel that they will be more likely to ship a revised product or 2nd gen model not too long after (possibly a rev increment every 3-4 months? and a v2 maybe 16-20 months?) and that it will be very similar but a big step forward for them compared to what the Bigscreen looks to be launching as. The only monkey in my plans is valve... IF valve can give us something in a 5k-8k display range with the same quality, FOV, and higher ppd as the index, I'm in, even at 1600-1800 usd.

Great to hear your experience with it. This is what i feared, that the Vive XR elite kind of came a bit "late" to the party. YES its way smaller/lighter than your average VR headset, yes it has diopters and kind of a hybrid glasses style and battery in the back. But the chip is the same as Q2, XR2, so the standalone performance will probably be as expected. The standalone library is still not the best, i fear that the Meta Quest - library has the upperhand when it comes to standalone. But they can be beat if Vive or Pico gets some juicy exclusives.. Not sure if that will ever happen though.
The Quest Pro price drop really came in hard and competitive just in time for XR elite release. Its much easier to recommend the PRO now. For me, having played almost exclusively standalone since i got my quest 2, the quest 3 cant come soon enough. And the gaming showcase cant come soon enough either :P I still want the Quest Pro, but thats almos exclusively from an ethusiast standpoint, and is not something i actually need 😅

About the bad pc streaming, I’ve seen a lot of people say to turn of “dynamic resolution” I *think* is what’s it’s called. It’s turned on by default I believe and many people have said turning that off makes it much much better. I don’t have the headset though so you might want to check that with someone who has tried it themselves

I just sent mines back. I like it but I didn't love it. For 1100, I had to love it to keep it. Gripes that I had with it was the facial interface isn't as comfortable. I felt like it was a bit too hard and gave me a headache after a while. Also, while using an external battery, the backlight of the screen would suddenly turn off which I had to go to the vive menu and slide the brightness up and down a little. After a few more minutes the backlight would turn off again. The visual were pretty decent. Definitely sharper than quest 2 but not 1100 better. I mainly bought this headset for comfort but tbh, it wasn't as comfortable as I thought. I think my quest 2 with my kiwi headstrap is more comfortable. All in all, good headset. Maybe a consideration if they manage to iron out the bugs and there's more third party comfort options and if there's a price drop. But for 1100...in my opinion, not worth it.

Also for me the streaming app works very well and I only had to do some small work arounds to get it to work since my antivirus was blocking it from working. Mine Vive XR Elite streaming works fine on WIFI6.
I'm using AX200 and windows hotspot to make a direct connection. (There's some hoops to jump through. 100% windows)
I think you missed some settings in the streaming software.
Disabling dynamic bitrate can reduce pixelation.

IMO if anyone thinks the HTC Vive elite is worth £1300 then you are just kidding yourself. I compared playing Assetto corsa compitzon with the Valve index , Pico 4 and Elite . The elite was a pinch clearer than the Index but no where near as good as the Pico . How can the Pico 4 smash such a expensive headset out the park for £350 , My advise is send the elite back .

I own the Vive XR Elite and love the size and versatility but I can see why people are not completely on board. With the advent of very likely Apple XR headset, Valve Headset, Quest 3 and very likely others spec wise the Vive seems to seem like a generation back in video quality. But the software issues are likely going to be fixed pretty soon especially in regards to streaming to PC. If you seen Ifixit teardown they where really impressed by the design and the battery swapping technology and the fact that there are two displays instead of one. Few surprises for me is the FOV and easy to swap between controller to hand tracking very seamless.

Regarding your charger not being able to fully charge the battery in a reasonable time or power the device in glasses mode: you need to use a charger that supports USB PD (USB Power Delivery) and at least 30W power output. If it does not, it will most likely fall back to 5V/3A max, which at 15W just isn't enough.

I mean PSVR is 100 FOV & this thing is on par w PSVR 2 110 FOV so anything more then PSVR is a win for me since I havnt experienced anything beyond that. 2 hour battery is fine you should be taking breaks from VR every hour anyway. The resolution and cost is the only issue but the comfort level and finding the sweat spot I'm sure is amazing. These glasses might always be on the back end of each generation so prepare for that. Just need to come down on cost. My issue is I own a PS5 not a PC amd I don't plan on getting 1 so I'm limited to 2 options

  • @ConservativeJuggaloPodcast

Needs to sell battery separately amd knock off $100 so they can advertise it for $799. I hear it's a little heavy on the nose without the battery but splitting the payment makes it more affordable for the average consumer, since you can use a PowerBank. Maybe knock off $100 for buy seperate controllers and advertise for $699 & be super competitive

If it's not a clear and obvious choice that this would be an upgrade over the Quest 2 as your DD then it's an obvious decision. IMO it's throwing away $1000 as both headsets will inevetibly tossed on the no longer used pile when the Quest 3 comes out.
