- Dozens of people have died after heavy rain triggered flooding and landslides in Brazil’s southernmost state.
According to officials, 55 people are confirmed to have died, with another 74 missing in Rio Grande do Sul.
Nearly 25,000 residents have been forced to leave their homes since the storms began last Saturday, and at least half a million people have been left without power and clean water.
More than half of the 497 cities in the state have been affected by the storms, with roads and bridges destroyed in several areas.

Even if you could do nothing, at least say good things which are normally every parent teaches to their children also taught in the school. If you belong to any religion, then it's basic to be polite and say nice words etc.
Words have power; for example a prayer book, song, those inspirational guidance talk, they make different so I would say it helps.
As a resident of Rio Grande do Sul, it's really chaos here, I've been without water for practically 4 days here in the city where I live, the others who live closer to here, the water has already taken over everything.

We spent $16,000 on dirt. The only bright spot is that it's on 2 acres in an upscale wooded lot community and is worth three times what I paid for it. My husband passed in 2004 at age 42 from leukemia. I paid the house off with most of the life insurance. With having to pay for pool cleaners, tree cutters, and yard maintenance, it is expensive for me to keep. I have been living with my boyfriend of 13 years since December 2015. It's worth $800,000, and home buyers are always texting and calling me and have the desire to purchase the home. I am very attached to this house but he will never live there. It was my marital home, and he bought one in 2016 for us. In September of 2022, he bought a 55-foot Benetaux sailboat that we travel in with our 2 American Eskimo dogs and our cat. We have too much stuff. 2 houses, 2 trucks, 1 SUV , a pool that needs constant money put into repairs, and 2 sailboats. He has been trying to sell the 27-foot sailboat that he learned to sail on during COVID19. We want a simpler life with money in the bank to finance our excursions and retirement. Needless to say that all these things are well insured.The capital gains tax would kill me if I sell it. I'm 58 and retired. He owns his own construction company and just takes the jobs that he wants and fits into our travel plans. You can only make $200,000 on your house when you sell it. The rest is heavily taxed. The value keeps going up, but so do the headaches. I have many health conditions, and I can't maintain like I used to. He wants me to sell it and put the money away.

If you analyze previous years consecutively, we had massive rain disasters in Brazil, but these floods in Rio Grande do Sul are historic, there are no precedents. It's an entire state hit by tragedy. We currently have more than 115 people missing, 80 people dead and thousands of people homeless. And to make matters worse, there is still a forecast of more rain and a drop in temperature.

Brazilian government spent 60 million to bring Madona for a free concert while giving anything to help the people here. Army is stopping people with boats to help with rescues because they don’t hold rescue license. Families are still waiting on rooftops for about 4 days and authorities haven’t done anything to help the families.

I'm here in Porto Alegre, capital of the State of Rio Grande do Sul. The area of the dilluvium is comparable to the area of the whole Great Britain. Most of this area was completely destroyed by the massive rains (800mm in 48 hours) and floods. Most of the local population (the State has 11 million inhabs.) has lost everything and now faces the problems of having no potable water or food to survive. Certainly this is one of the major climatic disasters in recorded mankind history in terms of displacement area and even economic losses. We're running out of time to save our planet...
