    So many amazing bikes in that building! It’s tempting to say too much on this topic (which is a fantastic one), but ultimately we all know where the market is at. Manufactures need to use platforms to keep costs down, and supersports don’t sell anymore. The reality, like it or not, is that it was this or nothing.

    My view that none of the at least six bikes since 1966 that have carried the Daytona name and none own the name exclusively. There have been two and four cylinder Daytonas as well as varying from 500 to 1200ccs and most were not racing bikes.
    Thanks for the tour.

    Riding well be the proof, but this may be a brilliant move for Triumph! The last 675 Daytona was a wonderful expensive bike that didn't sell well. However, a 10k sport bike may sell in the numbers they need. In the past, Triumph has gotten a lot out of modest components with careful tuning and development. If that's the case here, it may be what the market needs. The first Daytona was a 500cc twin that was overshadowed by the 650 twin - but the 500 won the race the bike was named after

    I think you've both said it on point, this bike is a watered down effort at reclaiming the Daytona name, I think the 765 version came closer to aspiring to that title. In my opinion it isn't a Daytona and its diluted the name. They should have brought the naming back from the early 90s and called it a Sprint or Sprint Sport. The naked version back then was the Trident and the half faired version was the Sprint. Later there was a Sprint RS and that was a semi-sports-tourer. Sounds right for the level of sportiness it seems to be.

    I owned a 2012 daytona 675 a few years back, and I'm now on my 2nd street triple. Whilst the 675 and Moto2 daytona's are fantastic bikes, they have a very committed riding position, and for older, less fit, or larger riders, they are not comfortable bikes. I can see there's a market for the new daytona it being more of a sport tourer at a great price means it will appeal to more riders. I'm definitely interested in trying one, and the name doesn't bother me as prior to the 675, daytona's were less sporty.

    You have to say that fans were asking for Triumph to bring back the Daytona, and they kinda have, although as you say is it a true Daytona? Time will tell. • @MalcolmStaines
    @MalcolmStaines Před 6 měsíci +1

    Triumph got a lot of stick for the speed triple RR being to uncomfortable, so my be that was behind the thinking into raising the riding position on the new Daytona , or maybe its just been targeted at a slightly aging market who want to have a bit of fun .

    In answer to your question....no not really. With the considerable popularity of Triumph's 660 engine, I think they have simply made a cunning business decision to add the Daytona name to its 660 line-up, hoping to capitalised on the iconic status of the Daytona brand.
