Professor and legal scholar Alan Dershowitz and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Glenn Greenwald debate the resolution, "The U.S. should strike Iran's nuclear facilities."
Taking the affirmative is Dershowitz, an American lawyer and law professor known for his work in U.S. constitutional law and American criminal law. From 1964 to 2013, he taught at Harvard Law School, where he was appointed as the Felix Frankfurter Professor of Law in 1993. He is the author of several books about politics and the law, including The Case for Israel, and The Case for Peace. His two most recent works are The Case Against Impeaching Trump, and Guilt by Accusation: The Challenge of Proving Innocence in the Age of #MeToo. In January 2020, he joined President Donald Trump's legal team as Trump was being tried on impeachment charges in the Senate. He is a strong supporter of Israel, self-identifing as both "pro-Israel and pro-Palestine."
Taking the negative is Greenwald, a constitutional lawyer, investigative journalist, and best-selling author. Acclaimed as one of the 25 most influential political commentators by The Atlantic, one of America's top 10 opinion writers by Newsweek, and one of the Top 100 Global Thinkers for 2013 by Foreign Policy, Greenwald has won the highest awards in journalism, including the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service for the NSA-Snowden revelations.

He then tried to grab power beyond what the constitution granted him, effectively attempting a coup. The Shah was within his constitutional right to relieve Mossadegh of his position. It was stopping a coup by Mossadegh, who has ties to Fedeyin e Islam(who attempted an assassination of the Shah and used violence to stifle their political opponents) as well as USSR allied factions in the country. Had Mossadegh maintained power he would have tanked Iran’s economy (which he had already began doing) because they didn’t have the means to operate the nationalized oil system, and probably led Iran to become a Russian client state.

Even most of the sanctions on Iran 🇮🇷 is illegal or at the very least unfair given the fact that the Iranian population is most affected by the sanctions more than the intended target is the government of Iran.
One example of this is sanctions not to sell planes or parts to Iran and this has resulted in numerous tragic accidents involving regular Iranians falling out of the sky to their deaths.
Iranian economy and inflation is hurting the most vulnerable sect of society pushing them into severe poverty while the government is enjoying what remains of the revenue of what is allowed to be traded.
Lack of medication is hurting cancer patients and children and again the most vulnerable . While Iranian officials can fly out to receive treatment abroad. So who is the sanctions for again?

In fact soon after the king of Iran had an interview in which he expressed his view on israel being in power in the US, he was removed. He was a dictator but was removed only for his view on Israel. It was good to see something that actually resembles a debate, especially the first half, when speakers were allowed to fully develop their thoughts and actually deliver something longer than sound bytes. The second half somewhat deteriorated, and the moderator really needed to assert more control, which was difficult without controlling the microphones (both of the speakers and of the audience).
It would have been nice to have a military analyst as part of the panel, to address just how easy or difficult it would be to actually carry out an effective military operation. I have a feeling that it would be much more difficult than the advocates for an attack on Iran think it would be. Iran’s nuclear sites aren’t all in one place, their program is in several location, and there’s no guarantee at all that an attack like the one in Iraq in the early 1980s would be successful.
As for regime change in Iran, I think I can claim this: If the U.S. were to take the kind of military action which Mr. Dershowitz proposes, the people of Iran, as much as they might despise their regime, would immediately rally behind it. That is something history clearly shows, when one examines the history of aerial bombardment during warfare. In both the UK and Germany during WWII, the people of those nations rallied behind their governments. The same is true of Vietnam, and right now support for Hamas among Palestinians is stronger, not weaker, despite the punishing bombardment.
The U.S. cannot simply bomb its way to regime change in Iran, and quite frankly, we don’t have the resources to engage in a costly ground invasion of yet another nation, one much more powerful than Hamas, Hezbollah, and 2003 Iraq. As it is, we are heavily supporting Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan right now as I write this, and the U.S. is having difficulty with meeting its own recruitment goals at this time, and I have heard military experts claim that the U.S. Armed Forces are running low on munitions we would need in the event of war.
The best answer here is negotiations. Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin foresaw this era of drones and missiles, whereby two non contiguous states could attack each other, and THAT is the reason he worked so hard to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict through a genuine two-state solution. Had he survived long enough to finish that process, it would have eliminated any real reason for nations like Iran to attack Israel.
Netanyahu, blinded by his revisionist Zionism (which seeks a “Greater Israel”), isn’t willing to make the compromises necessary to achieve this, and indeed actively undermined the Oslo Agreement during his first tenure as PM.
But the key to lowering tensions in the Middle East is for that conflict to be resolved, and that cannot be brought about by brute military force, especially when that force is brought to bear on innocent civilians. And if this cannot occur in Gaza, it CERTAINLY cannot work in Iran!
