There used to be a legendary duck place in central Nathon - if it's still there you should seek it out, it sticks in my memory after 18 years! Best roast duck I ever had.
@@jamestan8914 It's not tapioca leaves. It's Baegu leaves. The Baegu tree is the local tree in the Southern part of Thailand i.e. Koh Samui, Suratthani,
I love the small local places. Always a bit different depending on the chef's preference. Appreciate the video, Chris. TeeNee's been on my phone since you first mentioned it. Can't wait to try it out in Thailand.
This video here represents my favorite thing to do in Thailand. Getting in a car, traveling to towns and trying the food in hole in the wall restaurants. I've had some great soups, buffets, and fried fish on the road. Great video!
This restaurant is not the food in the hole. This is the secret restaurant for the local people. The flavor is specific and supported for local people. If you want to try, I recommend and welcome to try it. However, be careful your stomach. The southern food style is well known about Hot!! and Spicy!!!. This is the Rock style in food.😄😄😄
All I can say is Yummy!!! Nothing like finding a great hole in the wall type restaurant that the locals love. I could definitely use some Thai food right now to warm my soul.
👋🏻 Hey Chris, there’s an amazing family ran restaurant that a local got us hooked on when we were there it’s called Moonlight the address is 138/85 Ko Samui District, Surat Thani 84310, Thailand. It was a favourite of ours. Stay Sane and keep the awesome videos coming. 🍻Cheers🍻 ❤️🇨🇦
The yellow sign on the second restaurant says "closed on Sundays" so I'm glad you went back the next day to check it out. Also, the substitute place you went with the papaya salad should be good because the mom making it is likely from the Isaan because she was not speaking Thai, she was speaking some type of dialect close to Isaan. That's how you know the food is good...if the cook is from up country...just like mother used to make. ❤️ Thanks Chris.
Another great video, Chris. The Thai family run restaurants are so much better than the chain restaurants that have sprung up in recent years. We are looking forward to getting back toThailand soon but until we can we have our own piece of Thailand in the U.K. with our Noodle Bar. Cheers Ian
The green leafy dish with egg is made with Phak Liang or Phak Miang is a local south Thailand vegetable. "ใบเหลียง" My favourite too! Often cooked with some "Fuk Tong" pumpkin 🎃 😀
Your food videos showing the family run businesses are always great and wonderful. Keep them coming Chris. The folks are always so welcoming and personable. All of the food looked great. However Haley's egg with chilli looked yummy.
if sorted in noodle restaurant ▪︎The first cup is dried chili powder to give it a spicy flavor. ▪︎The second cup is sugar for a sweet taste. ▪︎The third cup is fish sauce for a salty taste. and ▪︎The fourth cup is vinegar, the flavor gives it a sour taste. Here, depending on your taste, if you like all the flavors you put all 4 cups and you want the flavor to stand out, you put more of that cup. Or if you don't like to eat flavorful, you don't have to add anything. will be just the taste of the food. I hope you enjoy Thai noodles. 😋🥲🤤😏🍜🍜🍝
It's weird how Thai food is so amazingly varied and good! Compare it to the Caribbean, say - very similar climate and ingredients, yet the food is soooo basic and bland by comparison. Only Mexico can compete, but it's a long way behind Thailand. Almost everything you eat is incredibly delicious, viva Thailand.
Depends how much influence the East Indians have had on the cuisine. Trini and Jamaican food for example is amazing and can hang with Southeast Asian food (I'm Asian American). Both have significant South Asian influence in the spices and ingredients. Same reason Thai food is so good too, Indian influence.
@@MrSimonj1970 Looks can be deceiving. Lots of Indian influence in Jamaican cooking - jerk chicken, goat curry, roti, callaloo, curry chicken, eggplant curry etc. It's funny you say they don't look "remotely close" when Jamaica's cuisine is PRIMARILY influenced by India - the exact opposite of what you think. Also you have to try many dishes before forming an opinion. Can't base it off of vlogs.
@MrSimonj1970 Where did you have food from in the Caribbean? The West Indies (what a portion of the Caribbean is called), have amazing food, with flavors just as unique and robust. Just a different twist
12:42 Unfortunately, seems like "no dried shrimp" was lost in translation, as that was the third ingredient "the cook" added to her mortar 11:13 (huge spoonful of dried shrimp).
I noticed that too, this is a thing in Thai's street food. You've got to be careful when you ordered and got the food. If someone has the allergy it would be the big deal.
Everyone knows Retired Working For You! Another great video. I have been to Koh Samui 2 times but only spent 1 or 2 nights there before heading to Koh Tao. Next time I will spend more time there. Hopefully this July!
