Story 6: Yo, someone stop this person IMMEDIATELY. Everything in the inheritance is all basically grandpa's stuff so he and only he gets to decide who gets what part of the inheritance. And he chose to leave his car to your son. For you to be like 'Wait that's not fair so I'm gonna use your college money as a way to blackmail you into selling something that is legally yours' is absolutely disgusting. If you go through with this, not only will you be a despicable and manipulating human being, you will also have effectively destroyed any kind of hope regarding you having any kind of relation with your son when he becomes an adult.

No way is it over 70,000, and even if it is, it’s not going to be worth keeping that when your father/mother is going to just hold it over your head to get you to jump through hoops at his/her whim.
Depending on the situation, if the son is a senior in high school, I’d honestly just keep the car and then request emancipation as soon as possible. Either that, or I’d emancipate myself early enough to where you get to count yourself as your own income. If he did good in school with that, he could get a full ride to college.
Did some research. The son is 17. With that money, I would threaten to emancipate myself if a manipulative father/mother did what this father/mother did.

Story 6: OP is absolutely the jerk; no question. For one thing, the OP is probably not going to be legally allowed to just seize an inheritance like that. People like her the reason why there are such strong inheritance laws is a thing to begin with. And if she thinks she's going to get by screw her kid over like that than she needs be comfortable with the idea of never seeing that kid again once he turns 18. Because that kind of abusive BS that breaks the emotional bonds between children and parent.

Story 6: YTA. Life is not fair. That is your son’s car to do with as he wants. He shouldn’t have to share the monetary value with the rest of the family. It’s selfish to extort from him by taking his college funds.
Assuming the son is a senior in high school because he is 17, he could possibly request to emancipate himself. Also depending on how well he is doing in school, he could possibly get a full ride (or at least enough for a year or 2 or maybe even 3) through college from his school.
What if the car means more to the son than money? What I mean is the grandfather could have left the car to the boy because of the time they spent together related to it. I'm 34 years old, and my grandpa died when I was 7. If there was something like that, where that's how we bonded and spent time together, I'd value the car for the conversations we had and the lessons he taught me.

Last story: This is simple, the grandpa left his property as he wanted. OPs son is not obligated to split it and OP shouldn't punish him for not selling the car. That is abusive and manipulative. Yes, everyone has a right to be upset, fine. But to punish a kid and force him to give up his inheritance is cruel.
We should start a drinking game, where every time the narrator says “I don't know what to do” (or some other derivative of that phrase), we take a drink.

Story 1: The OP's mom here sounds like an absolute basketcase and im honestly surprised that the OP is even in contact with her and that part of the extended family. I hate it when people do things like this at other people's weddings.... especially your own children. The mom deserved no thanks or praise in the speeches.... heck, i wouldve barely acknowledged her for even showing up.
Story 2: Always seems to be one bad manager/owner that ruins is for everyone. Good on the OP for quitting here... it always seems like the best employees get treated the worst. Stories like this are also a good reason why you dont go into business (especially restaurants) with family and/or friends... stuff like this almost always happens.
Story 3: I'm not sure what was wrong with the OP, hopefully they are doing much better now, but it really sounds like that their ailment was WAY more serious then a kid running around with a rash on his arm. If the kid was having a bad reaction, he sure wouldn't be running around in the ER. Also, let the stupid Karen complain, i'm sure the ER and hospital have more then enough cameras to see the kid running around with the staff trying to get him to stop, along with the Karen getting in the face of both the OP and the doctor.
Story 4: There is absolutely no way the OP is the jerk here, and the SIL is a massive jerk here. The OP has made it very clear, multiple times, that she wants nothing to do with her birth family and told the SIL to drop it and leave it alone, but the SIL for some dumb reason, just won't. The OP had every right to walk away from the SIL and ignore her, and i would probably go low contact with her after all of this. The drama that has unfolded from all this is 100% on the SIL, not the OP.
Story 5: OP is not a jerk here. The mom is and the bf definitely is. The bf is the big reason of the rift between the OP and the mom, even though the mom is no saint either. I wouldn't have answered the call when the bf called, and i definitely would not move back home to help out. If the mom and bf split, then maybe i would try and help some kind of way, but don't move back. A classic case of 'you reap what you sow.'
Story 6: Yes, OP, you are a jerk here, and a big one. The granddad left the car to the OP's son and split up money between other grandkids and family. That is the business of the granddad's estate only. I get that wills and estates aren't always fair or split up evenly, but thats the way life goes sometimes. The fact that the OP now wants to take away his college money and divide it up among other siblings is extremely selfish and dumb and it really shows that the OP doesn't care about the OP and is only looking out for the others. This is really a great way to get your son to hate you and go zero contact the moment he is of legal age.

When my dad died he did not have a will. My brother and I split the money and I got all the property, vehicles, etc. I also got the life insurance. I gave someoney to both my sisters and to their kids but there was no issue or arguing.
Waiting one hour in the ER? Where I live waiting over 7 is customary :D.
1 hour isn't even a long time to wait at a hospital for a minor injury. Like when I was 6, I ended up snapping the bone in my right arm in half, and I had to wait an hour to get treatment 🙃

Story #1. They gotta cut ties with mom and from the sounds of it, all that side of the family too. I mean I don't know them. So I obviously don't know what their relationship is. But it REALLY sounds like it's one of those ones where the mom was treating her son like he's her husband. At least trying to mold him into what she thinks the perfect husband is... for herself! Story 3: Just in case anyone doesn’t know, they see people in the emergency room in order of severity. If the doctors can tell that your symptoms are nowhere near another patient’s in severity, you’re going to have to wait. If you’ve got a mild rash or just have a little cough and someone walks in bleeding out or having a heart attack, news flash, buckle down because you’re gonna be there a little bit longer.
When my husband was in A&E(uk), I heard a nurse tell a man off for bringing his daughter in when he should have waited for the doctor to open 2days later. She really went to town on him. Saying he was denying others getting treatment quicker.
Story 1- she got attention for leaving. Narcs like her are never happy. My mil took the djs microphone for 30 minutes during the meal at my bil wedding and had to be told to stop. She is still mad and thinks she is right and Shes the mother and doesn’t need permission. First of all, YES YOU DO, it’s not her wedding. She had ZERO business doing what she did.

I was adopted from birth. My birthmother had a lot of kids and didnt think she could take care of me so she let my parents adopt me because they couldnt have kids. Now i have met my birth mother and we do share a lot of interests but i never felt like she was my mother. More like an acquaintance i can nerd out with. All that adoption really taught me is that family isnt limited by blood.
And while i can absolutely understand the desire to find out where you came from, it isnt some sort of magical defining moment. It can be emotional. It can be special. It can bring you closure. You may notice similarities you never had with the parents that raised you. But finding out who your birth parents are does not define you as a human being.

20:11 you are the A-HOLE 10 times over . Your some had nothing to do with what he was left in the will and yes I can relate. Maybe they bonded over the car and that’s why he is getting it. My great grandfather passed when I was 12 and he was a WWII vet. I would always listen to his story’s , watch documentaries , and went to museums with him over our bond of WWII. Well he passed and left his entire military collection from the war listing guns uniforms that was his, and germans , relics from both sides gear that he brought back home , knives, and some wooden furniture that he had made . When this was read by the lawyer to my family my aunts uncles and older cousins became pissed and talked down to me and demanded I give them it . Great grandmaw had my pawpaw ( her son ) and my mom and dad go get everything but they couldn’t find the WWII German stuff or the guns. It was only my great grand fathers wooden furniture , uniforms, medals , ring, dog tags , and 2 of his hunting rifles. Which I smiled and said it ok . Most of those aunts ,uncles , and cousins were cut from my life because I wouldn’t have anything to do with the because the way they acted ( none of them went to my wedding) well when I moved out my parents house my mom , dad , pawpaw and mawmaw helped me move . When it came to the wooden furniture that I had in my room from my great grand father . I asked how about we make this easy and with knowing how to I removed certain pieces of wood that held it all together and there was all the guns and WWII relics . My dad asked is that why it was so heavy. Now it’s all in a fireproof safe

Final Story I agree with the reader yes the OP of the story is a 100% jerk and unethical. If their son inherited that kind of expensive thing(s) then let him have it no questions ask respect his grandpa's decision I know it's not fair in some degree but still it's the grandpa's decision to do that. Before your son inherited the car you should have told his grandpa to split all of the inheritance equally to the children not complain or give ultimatum to your son on the car he inherited.

I’m not trying to be rude, but in stone number three there was a line that really bothered me. And that’s my original poster said it really didn’t look like the kid needed to be there. OK yes the kid basically proved it but for the original posted to say it didn’t look like they needed to be there. I don’t like that line. I bet if you asked that mother or other patients waiting I bet they would say it doesn’t look like you need to be in the emergency room. The reasoning must've been since the grandpa most likely related the most to the grandson. And he still gave the other kids some money so they got what they got. And im sure the kid would not want to sell his car under any CIRCUMSTANCE since it most likely holds alot of sentimental value to him since it might be one of his only memories of his grandpa. And the OP has no right about the car since the grandpa specificaly gave it to the son. And what does the OP mean its not fair.
