    I guess a clutch job ain't too expensive in the UK.

      Most people who own classics cars fix them by themselfs so it dont cost that much.

      paul austin: Spoken like a typically stupid Yank. A clutch job on a Cortina, be it a Mk1/2/3/4 or 5 is a couple of hours work with a pair of ramps/axle stands a basic tool kit and somewhere flat so you can lie under the car. I did my 2.0 GT Mk3 back in the mid 80's when I was 20, out in the street. Took me about 2 or 3 hours and I was back on the road driving it again that night.

      I'm actually looking to move to the US from Australia.
      Really want to bring my TE V8 Cortina Ghia with me, just don't know if a right hand drive car can be registered in the US???
      I know left hand drive Mk 1 and 2 Cortinas were sold in the US, and read somewhere Mk 3's were sold in Canada, do you know if there are any Mk 4 or 5's in the US?

    • @markfortin421
      @markfortin421 Před 3 lety

      @@cheeseburgertim1694 Hi Tim...I really don't think having Right Hand drive is going to be an issue for registration.
      Your choice of where to live (which state) is more of an issue. For example, California is probably the
      worst state to register a car from overseas, and every state has their own mandates as far as emissions and safety equipment. Some (but not all) require a state police inspection before you can register a vehicle.(any vehicle)
      So depending on what state you are thinking of moving to,
      check with their Secretary of State. Thats the department that registers vehicles and issues license plates for vehicles. Hope this helps a little.
      I have never seen any Cortina newer than mk.3,
      but I am in Michigan, so some may exist out west in the warmer, sunnier, and dryer climates. I live in whats known as the "rust belt" where they use salt on the roads in winter, and cars don't last.
      Good Luck!

  • @socoman99
    @socoman99 Před 4 lety +1

    Wow! This sure brought back memories. In 1969, my next door neighbor sold me his 1961 Ford Anglia, which he had modified with a downdraft weber carburetor and "headers" and a "glass pack" exhaust which came out under the (left hand) driver's door. That car was such a blast. I sold it in 1971 and bought a 1968 Cortina GT and had it modified at Robert Winkelmann Racing in Sausalito, CA. 40 DCOE side-draft Weber carburetors, longer duration camshaft, headers and a lowered and stiffened suspension with five and half inch rims. I also had a steel plate sump shield installed as I thought I might do off-road rallies but never did do them. In 1972, I bought a 1965 Lotus Cortina with right hand drive and had both cars for about a year. The downside to that car was that it had sat in a garage for five years and the head gasket had corroded and cracked the head. The person I bought it from had installed a new head with twin Solex's, so it didn't have the same power as the Weber carburetors. The Lotus Cortina was such a kick but being a 20 year-old college student, I couldn't keep both and sold the Lotus for exactly what I paid for it. The fellow I sold it to then had the original rear axle go out (typical for that year) and lost all compression, so it needed a ring and valve job and he got a new head with the side draft Weber carburetors. I finally sold the Cortina GT in 1977 as it was starting to show its age. It's amazing to see enthusiasts keeping the Cortina craze alive after all these years.
