I played this game on ps5 and I loved it, it’s cool that it’s coming to switch
It's pretty cool how the pathless seems to take mechanics and experiences we've all had in multiple games and repurpose them. Giving them a bigger impact to support it's unique world. Cleaning your companion. Utilizing the characters bow allowing A to B traversal to be a bit more interactive, amongst a few other things. The sonic reference was spot on, I'm playing frontiers now and i can see so many similarities in mindset
Even though this game does not have the same visual detailing of similar games, it is still breathtaking

Great review! This definitely looks like a game I’d like to pick up at some point. I really appreciate it when games have a great soundtrack, and it sounds like this one definitely has a memorable one. Having to cleanse your eagle is such a tender addition, I like that. The stealth sections within the corruption seem a bit nerve-racking, though, so I’m hoping they’re not _too_ frequent ;) Having to shoot the diamond-shaped targets to keep your momentum going also looks like an interesting mechanic.
This looks absolutely wonderful!!! I love the art style, it’s so dynamic and beautiful, can’t wait to pick this one up!

This game looks really good and I think you may have missed a category as clearly this game scored a 20 out of 20 for hawks and hawk related gameplay. It's unfortunately a bit too short to purchase at full price for me. But I definitely can see myself getting it on sale

Looks very interesting. Like the look of the mechanics, but there are other games higher on my list at the moment. Might keep an eye out for when it goes on sale though

Nice review guys! I did notice that you said the controls got a 18/20, but the video shows 15/20, instead. I'm going to check out that soundtrack even though the game is not for me. It sounds real good

I searched for Austin Wintory Pathless and found a video of the process he took to create 1 minute of music for a game that gets 20/20 for audio. Includes (amongst other locations) a recording session at Abbey Road Studio, London.
Thank you for sharing! I like to listen to his music from Journey, Apotheosis being my favourite, it is just absolute perfection in my opinion. If he or Darren Korb from SuperGiant Games make the music for a game, you know it'll be a great experience!

I loved the slow and atmospherical gameplay of ABZU, ABSOLUTELY CANT WAIT to try this MAJESTIC and fast paced gamplay!!

Awesome and gorgeous adventure due to some very clever graphical design choises and with some great game mechanics (wish the purification of the bird would happen using the gyro though). Definitely a must have adventure, I will wait for a sale just because of the relatively short game time.
Anything from the creators of Abzu grabs my attention, such a beautiful game! The Pathless looks interesting, maybe a little bit shallow at first glance? It's a nice gameplay loop, and the exploration and traversal look fun, but just feels a tiny bit empty. Maybe it's just the barren landscape, maybe it's just the oversaturation of BOTW-style adventure games on the Switch. Or maybe just the price tag, taking my breath away 😅
I bought it today and the emptiness is hardly noticeable when compared to the beautiful scenery and the sheer speed of the character
This game awakens something in me, like a primordial attraction to the story, music, gameplay and everything

Abzu is one of my favorite games ever. Such a relaxing and beautiful game to play when you just need a break from the action and want to unwind. I'm happy to see The Pathless release on the Switch. I'm definitely going to pick this one up
Looks great! And I’m all for shorter experiences as you can play them again. Music sounds great….but, the price does seem a bit high. Definitely pick it up when it goes on sale for $19.99.

While the game doesn't seem to do anything original, it does seem to execute it's ideas well and has a nice visual style. I'll add it to my wishlist for now and wait for a lull in games or a sale. A well crafted, delightful experience with such a strong identity is awesome to see...but agreed. I find the price a bit...high. $50.00 CAD...whew. But it's not like it won't go down in price over the next year and it will be an immediate yes once it hits that comfortable threshold.
Never heard of this till now. Great review! 👍 There is something to be said about games with this type of graphical style, and the fluidity it brings. Like Blue Fire, the animations seem to just flow making for a pleasant gameplay experience.

Wow that looks gorgeous! It reminds me of BotW of course but also of Ryme, Aragami and a bit of Shadow of the Colossus ( at least for some landscapes). And if it's made by the devs of Abzu, you know it will deliver that same sense of wonder these games are known for. Definitely tempted to get it, even though I agree that it's a bit expensive for a short game.

@@Anni_ka Not sure exactly how limited it'll be, but iam8bit releases are usually pretty readily available for some time. I didn't see a specific date for the release either. It just said "in the coming weeks"

I love the look of this game, its 100% the kind of game i would like, kinda short but still something i would love.
Im a physical game collecter and player tho, i dont download unless i really have 2, so i hope they bring out a physical version really soon or its avalible for me 2 import from play asia or something.
Physical coming soon, is that regular retail, or some limited print company handling it? It looks like something I'd like to get physical, regular retail. Hopefully still with a manual or small art book, and inner art, to make the box feel less empty and give us something nice to look at and flip through.
Iam8bit released a physical PS5 version a long time ago. They might have the rights to do the physical Switch port now. But probably it will be distributed through a few "limited" sites, and PlayAsia(if it doesn't go to Iam8bit).
This looks like a beautiful and fun game. When it goes on sale, I might buy it. I really love the artistic nature of the game and the main character.

I've just been cooking, no korma paste in the cupboard, had to drive to Farm Foods, no korma paste, bought a jar, decanted the chicken as I had already made a base, smashed a pie dish, korma okay but burnt the rice, god damn it!!! It wasn't the worse Korma, thanks Patak's. One of those days!

I’ve been watching the development of this and while interested I couldn’t get a sense of the gameplay from the trailers so your review is very informative as usual. However I agree that the price tag is a little steep for me, especially when compared to other recent premium indies such as Return to Monkey Island, or Trek to Yomi.
I'm getting mad at you, you're making me aware of so many games I want to play but didn't know of. I don't have enough time to play all these great games. 🙃

I don't mind a sparce world when has a narrative reason (ravaged by pissed off gods is a good one) and traversal is zippy enough going from a to b can be pleasant without getting boring.
