I like to imagine that the percussionist was also a horn player, but who had lost his mouthpiece so he was told to play the percussion.
there is no other instrument like the horn, with dark mellow tones and also possible to play it brightly and clear. they don't just live in the middle range - very nice low and pedal tones and the soft mids up to an upper octave of bright but not crass high notes... horn ensembles are my all-time favorite.
As a trombonist for 25 years, I've been in several trombone choirs and can echo your statement about horn choirs and the range on the horn. Haunting and expressive. Gotta love trombone choirs that shake the floor, but the horn choir ties at 1st!
I would say personally that I prefer the French Horns tonality, much more than a trumpet, I've heard BEAUTIFUL trumpets... but i give the award for tone to the french horn .

This is just amazing. I, myself play Horn and am forever going to remember this. I'm also first chair in my section...but I couldn't even imagine playing this yet. It's just...there are no words to describe it. Breathtaking is all I can say.

in junior high school, many years ago, I temporarily switched from trombone to horn to sit near pretty Ruth B, hornist. who moved to our school. The director knew what was up, but approved. Have loved the horn all these years. I think of those days at the sound of beautiful horn music like this performance.

I remember playing this with 12 horns, me on horn 3. It was amazing, as I was playing with some spectacularly good players that day, myself only having played for a couple of months. Really brilliant piece.

i agree!! luckly my band director said i could start in 8th grade yet it was his 1st year and i shall carry out french horn through high school and college i love music it is my life i wan to be a band director when i grow up

No we are not together anymore. After a relationship of almost 4 years she left me for someone else. This happend about an year and a half ago. I was unhappy for a verry long time but now i'm happy again and enjoying life!
I still listen to this song though.... It's so beautifull!

I remember playing this during my undergrad. I played the low part (12th? I cant remember how many parts there were lol) but it was so fun! I loved playing pedal notes the most ❤

My dream was always to play french horn, but my band director always said I had to stay on trumpet. I'm determined to switch over to french horn my senior year. Being lead trumpet was cool, but I feel like french horn is such a more expressive instrument, and breath taking. I love it.

Do it, its totally worth it. I only go back to trumpet for marching band season. It is a difficult instrument. Harder than trumpet, but is incredibly fun. The other sections make a piece sound beautiful, the horns make people want to cry.

I play both. At the moment in the band I'm in I'm playing mostly horn. I miss the trumpet a bit but I have ways of playing here and there. I love both. Do what YOU want to do, its your choice in the end, all your director can do is just recommend.

You can play in groups in college and NOT be a music major. There wouldn't be enough people or instrumentation in groups if it WAS only just people majoring (and minoring) in music. And with the work load that physics brings having music in your life will be a stress reliever.

start with low brass if you play euphonium i learned all the low brass and bassoon in middle school and i went to a boarding arts school called idyllwild arts

But I'm determined my senior year I will play French Horn. I know i'm second chair on trumpet in my band, and one of the lead players but i want to be happy, and playing french horn would make my life.
Has London Horn Sound done any video game music like Dragon Quest, Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy or Chrono Trigger? Because golden-era RPG music deserves the same attention that movie soundtracks have traditionally gotten...

Expression isn't in the horn. The tone and ease of playing is dependent on the horn, but the rest is all you

They definitely have a different sound. I like them both better on different days. If I want that nice edge, I'll listen to LHS, but if I'm in a more mellow mood, then Vienna all the way
