I am sat and ready. Got Amazon and Waterstones, books online all open. I can’t wait. I’ve always loved Chandlers recommendations and honest reviews💗 thank you so much. Thank you for uploading. This is a channel I come to when I’m feeling down or sad or want some happiness and escapism but also community. I know you’re going through a lot right now and I hope you know you’re not alone and that you are so loved and I hope we as your followers can support you and give you what you need right now. Sending so much love to you and Haden 💗
"The Air He Breathes" is getting a movie soon and I'm so freaking giddy abt it.
I recently read out on a limb per your recommendation and was shock with how quickly i grew to love all characters. I normally don't like surprise pregnancy this it really worked for me so much that actually wish it was a series, i what the side couple's story.
it’s coming out! Out of the Woods follows the side characters from out on a limb and comes out January 2025!
i don’t know if it’s my favorite of allllll time but one i read and LOVED recently was say you swear by meagan brandy. it was so cute and they really became friends and got to know each other deeply before being romantic, and there’s some fabulous third act angst melodrama that was just so fun to read!
reading that one rn! not sure it’ll be a fav but it’s interesting for sure
I generally give a book 5-stars if I have fun reading it 😅 the bar is extemely low BUT having fun is like my main criteria anyways, and I DNF a lot of books if they feel even slightly like a slog. However I do have an all-star category where I place books that are my all time favorites. Part of Your world made me feel so incredibly seen, and I've never connected with a book that deeply. The brown sisters are all on there as well, they were the first romance books I ever picked up and they still are the ones I go back to and recommended to people. Thank You For Listening is also my all time favorite audiobook. Julia Whelan is top tier and the story she told in her writing and through her vocal telling was so good.
I recently finished "thank you for listening", I couldn't get into the ebook, but my library had the audio book and it was so good! I do love the "you've got mail" talking online trope. This video made me realise I haven't rated a book 5 ⭐️ for aaaages, last one that was a contemporary romance was "the right move", so I'm excited for the next one in the series, I think it's out in June 😀
Don't know if I have a clear favorite, though I agree Helen Hoang is *so* good and very underrated. The one I've re-read the most is "The Flatshare" by Beth O'Leary. I also liked "Trade Me" by Courney Milan (one of her few contemporaries).
this is inspiring me to go and organize my goodreads shelves. You're so right about the Helen Hoang books that they don't get talked about enough. I wonder if it is because the Heart Principle just didn't hit for folks in the same way?
i haven’t heard of so many of these 😭
i’m putting some on my tbr now
There went my KU TBR, just days after renewing it. Damn girl 😆
I was just talking about this with a friend earlier this week. According to Goodreads I've read 300+ romances, but I've only given 8 of them 5 stars. I think Romance as a genre is so difficult to rate objectively, because like you said, tastes change and evolve, and what I love might be extremely triggering or toxic for someone else!
Same here! Could you share what books you gave 5 stars to? I'm just curious..
Your channel is by far my most favorite on CZcams! Your hardwork always shows and I love your honesty!
Loved seeing some of my favorites on this list from Mariana Zapata, Elsie Silver, Elizabeth O'Roark and Ali Hazelwood! Adding all these to my goodreads :)
1. yk i’m a real fan when i remember u mentioning a good chunk of these books when u read them initially. ily chan! ◡̈
2. patiently waiting for the low stakes romance recommendation LOL
You absolutely slayed with this one and it's made me want to revisit all my romance 5 star ratings 😂
Always a good day when Chan posts❤
My favorite contemporary romances of all time are Part of Your World, The Kiss Quotient, and Was I Ever Here by Naomi Loud, which deserves so much more attention. It’s a dark romance with a light reincarnation plot of lovers finding each other through different lifetimes. It’s so unique and beautiful!
I think People We Meet on Vacation is my current favorite contemporary romance. I listened to the audiobook (shout out to Julia Whalen!) and was full on crying in my car during the ending lol.
Thanks for this video! I’m sure it took awhile to film, but it is nice to have a video full of favs 😊
My 5 star favorite so far is Beyond the Thistles by Samantha Young. It’s a bodyguard, single mom, romantic suspense, and sexy/swoony romance. Loved the plot, good character development, chemistry, and pace. Recommended read all the way. ❤❤❤❤❤
loved this!
Helen Hoang needs to write more books!
I stand by Vicious.. it’s so bad but so juicy 😂😂 I have no shame about my love for that book
Same! 😂
I haven’t even heard of so many of these 😬
It’s interesting that there are no 5 star historical/regency romance books on that list. It’s one of my favourite subgenres of romance.
But I do like contemporary romance and there are some on that list I will definitely add to my wish list. I’ve never read a Kennedy Ryan book, but heard so many positive reviews from different people so will definitely be buying one of her books soon!
its because this video is specifically about her contemporary romance shelf
I’m sending you love❤❤❤
Would love a low stakes romance!
I think my fave contemporary romances would be Flawless and Heartless by Elsie Silver. I also always think about The Simple Wild by KA Tucker but I only rated that 4 stars when I originally read it. Yet it’s stayed with me for 4 years so maybe I need to reread it and see if I think it’s a five star now 🧐
Would you consider doing a "Best audio books of all time (in your opinion"? I get travel sick and love to "read" but I am really put off by some narrators and it can spoil a whole book for me.
Ugh i already had a contemporary romance physical TBR of 29 books (i just got a bunch of books for my birthday).. I just started reading this genre at the beginning of 2024 so there are lots of 4 and 5 star books i haven't read yet..
i am definitely adding a lot of these books to my TBR..
Are there any good single mom contemporary romances? I know you mentioned a single dad...
the soulmate equation is a single mom romance!
I used to really love a dark romance with a basically emotionally abusive damaged hero. But after 2 failed long term relationships with damaged men, i can’t enjoy them anymore.
I think I vibe with a golden retriever hero who has a filthy mouth. (Like Elsie Silver’s dudes.)
totally agree!
I'm a gay man, and 'Id love to comment on M/M. I'm in a lot of M/M romance facebook groups, and to be honest, it's not what...some booktubers make it out to be. There's frequent talk of homophobia there, privilege is called out. It's very much not all fetishising. I'm sure there are instances of it, but the majority is normal. Straight romances are much more prevalent, and as an author, you're much more likely to be a successful, author who makes tons of money while M/M romances are still very much in the minority, yet some of these authors choose to write M/M even knowing that they'd be more successful writing M/F.
I don't think people should stop reading M/M at all, quite the opposite.
my favorite contemporary romance of all time is part of your world 🥹
Chandler.. you said you've been reading contemporary romance books for the past 15 years (since 2009?) But your earliest 5 star read was 2017.. (Was 2017 the first year you started keeping track of your book ratings?) - that should mean that you have a lot more 5 star reads out of the 674 books you read.. correct ? It's a shame you didn't write them down somewhere...
Me? I just started reading contemporary romance books this year, 2024. I've read a total of 15. I have three 5 star books: Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez, Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren and Icebreaker by Hannah Grace.+qqx+++q po+qzazaapq !a?a???z!a?! Z ewd c. Ngfdn a
i think my goodreads goes back to 2012 when i started tracking my reading, but i didn’t rate those yeah. and there’s stuff before i didn’t track
I'm sat
Omg, how can you make me choose just ONE favorite contemporary romance??!!! I can't, I'll just give you my top 2 currently 😂😂 (Book Lovers by Emily Henry and Twice Shy by Sarah Hogle because I just read it and it was perfection - though probably my favourite IS Book Lovers, I think about it constantly 😅)
