Thank you so much for all your videos! It's very interesting to hear about the segmented semesters. It's not something that I've experienced in the US.
You're very welcome! This is indeed quite different from the US. I have a good friend who did his degree in California and we have been talking quite a lot about the differences between the two education systems. Its actually quite weird how different they are if you dig deep.
Another great video! All written down, thanks!
Thats awesome to hear Chris! Also, i just now noticed that you had become a channel member! Thank you so much for the support, i do appreciate that 👊. If you have any questions that youd like me to answer in members-only videos, do let me know and ill start working on those right away :)
Thanks for your video! Could you share your personal experience to balance your study and your work and your extra-curriculum activities in master degree?
To get a 3 credit course in my country it’s 42 hours but in most cases if you factor in notes, tests, and assignments it’s probably closer to 60 hours for me in most cases.
Super interesting. Is the scope of a Canadian degree similar to a Finnish one or are there differences there as well?
@@RoadtoFinnish Some differences. I mentioned in the other comment.
Means 10.8 hours per day or per week Pls clarify
Hey oliver!

Just had some doubts regarding Finland education

Your channel is really doing well!
Hope you reach into great heights 😇
Hey Divij and thanks so much for the great question. So this is a complicated topic and i could spend an evening talking about the different pathways for this kind of a career. I wont do that here in the comments because i would need to write you a full essay about it 🤓. However, i would not be worried at all if i were you. I know a BUNCH of people who have chosen this as their career path and there are plenty of guys i studied with who are working in this field either in Finland, London or Switzerland. So there are definitely plenty of opportunities here if you just know what you want and how to get there.
The funny thing is, ive actually spent some time analysing some of these peoples' linkedin profile and ive been able to recognise a pattern in those who end up in this career path. So i could be able to give you pretty straight forward recipe. If you send me a message on Discord, we can talk a bit more about the topic over there.
I have 150 credits but I have been going to college for 11 and a half years. This is in Canada though.
😅 in Finland we actually used to have something that we called "eternal university". This was back in early 2000s when local students didnt have any limits to the amount of years that they could spend on their degree. A few friends of mine took around 10 years to finish their degrees because of this by working at the same time. Some of them even took a few years of to build their own companies to eventually return back to their studies to get their degree certificates. This has changed since then and nowadays you can study a maximum of 9 years. A normative pace is 5 years but you can get 2 years extra if you have a good reason for postponing your studies AND you have a plan for getting the studies done. After that universities can give extra time on their own discretion if they see that the student is able to get their degree done. The incentive for the universities is to get their students to graduate even if it takes extra time. We have a public university system and the unis get a majority of their funding from the government. This funding is based on the number of graduates. So its better for them to push people to graduate even if it takes a bit more than intended.
@@RoadtoFinnish In my country it varies like at my college if you’re going in for a Bachelors they want you to finish in 2-4 years, Online or “Independent Studies “ is up to 7 years if you’re going for just a minors, and Masters Degrees are 7- 10 I think for most.
I already got an offer letter from a university in Finland but still have to wait for apply to Resident Permit because of the pandemic
:(
Darn that sucks... It seems that there are a lot of issues with residence permits - especially when it comes to the visit to a Finnish embassy or mission. Just hold on. It will get better and you will get this done at some point. Just make sure to stay safe and healthy.
Hi . Please i want to know what is the maximum of age when the student apply the university in Finlande for study Bachelor . Is possible that somoine has 30..32 age Can study Bachelor in Finlande ?
Thanks for the question! There are no age limits to studying in Finland.
Anyone from any age can study. Even Finns in their 30s and 40s study.
As i applied in last week of july in 2022 so what it means that how much time will university take for interview
Hey Jasleen. This depends on the university that you applied to. Please check out the application schedule from the university website. They should have a detailed schedule and deadlines visible for everyone.
Hi Oliver can you help me with this
Is it worth it to study in uas in finland instead of universities ranked top 400 in the world in other countries? Do university graduates get paid more than uas graduates(I mean who completed the bachelor's in uas)
This is a hard question to answer especially in regards to other universities around the world. I can only comment on schools in Finland. To answer your question about whether or not university graduates get paid better than UAS graduates, its not a yes or no question. This depends on many different variables e.g. your field, job, past job experience, the company that you are applying for etc etc... You also have to take into account that if and when you study at a university, you are expected to do both your bachelor's as well as master's degrees. So this is why its not really correct to compare bachelor's graduates from universities and UAS's. If you compare salary levels between university graduates (master's graduates) vs UAS bachelor's graduates, then yes, university graduates would be paid (in general) better. However, this is still not a good comparison because i know plenty of people who have UAS bachelor's degrees and who have done very well for themselves and have a very nice salary.
If i would have to make an overly simple generalisation, then yes, you will have a better salary if you do a university degree.
Which field have you been thinking about pursuing?
@@RoadtoFinnish IT in general ,software engineering precisely
@@xzrvuxthezx8593 In that case i would apply for a university degree and do both a bachelor's and master's. Biggest reason is because a master's degree goes much, much deeper into the topics and it will give you much better tools for the future. Remember that university studies are more theoretical compared to UAS studies. This means that you have a wider toolbox to apply your knowledge compared to doing a bachelor's at a UAS. Just my opinion.
@@RoadtoFinnish thank you so much oliver I appreciate you taking the time to answer my qsts and I love your videos and I hope you succeed in life ❤
Thank you again
Hey sir.. Is study in Finland worth it?? Or I should choese Belgium...plz help me which country should I choose belgium or Finland for IT sector

@@Yoni123 can you tell me how many days in a week I need to go to my university in finland? And how many hours it typically takes in a day for the class lecture?
I have a friend that says he's going 7 days a week around 8h per day is it possible or is he lying?
I dont see why he would be lying. How much you study per day or week is always super personal and there is no absolute number that i could give you. Its fully possible that he is studying 7 days per week with 8 hours per day. The question is - is that necessarily needed.
@@RoadtoFinnish its just here the system where i live is different and he said he's going from 16 .00to 23.00 o clock and i thought its a lie because it sounds unbelieveble for us
I want to discuss about my study or many others How i can talk to you is it any way to talk to you ?will you help me ? May be you will. Your videos are really helpfull for me
Hey Jasleen and thanks for the question. Unfortunately it is not possible for me to help people individually with their applications. This would simply take way too much time considering how many people are asking about this. If you have any questions, please ask them here in the comments so that i can share an answer that everyone else with a similar question can see as well.
I like how u say ur name (oliver ) 😂😍😍😍
😅 the Finnish language has a very distinct pronunciation
I hope to bring my wife to Finland while I am studying under a student visa. If she gives birth to a child while we are studying in Finland, will the child become a citizen of Finland?
Hey Lakshan and thanks for the question. I am not an immigration expert so im not 100% of how to interpret the law. However, if ive understood this right, a child born in Finland will not automatically become a citizen. Instead, a potential citizenship is based on the citizenship of the child's parents. Please read more about this on the website of the Finnish immigration service: migri.fi/en/child-born-in-finland
I Think it was 10.8 hours per day
The Finnish university systems seems very fair to me in relation to the units and time. Then again where I am university schedules are very rigorous with the difference that they waste the student's time A LOT on compulsary useless subjects that the regime forces people to take for its brainwashing purposes and with their absolute lack of proper planning and optimization of the student's time (from the lack of respect that they have for students) which makes you have to go to school for about four to five days a week and some of the average univesity days to be like: 6:30-8:30 Statistics analysis / 13:30-15:30 International mediation / 18:30 - 20:30 Interpretation of legal texts ... an absolute waste of the student's time for only three classes with no real opportunities for the student to constructively fill those large gaps or make any decent use out of them.
