- Christmas is magical, especially when you get to spend it at Windsor Castle or Sandringham House with The Queen. For eleven years I got to see up close Christmas with the Royal Family. Preparing Christmas cakes, Christmas puddings and a festive feast of lunches, buffets, dinners and afternoon teas for Her Majesty and her family.

Every person if like you this world be heaven on earth, indeed and true a wonderful world!
Recipe?
I really thought we were going to see something else on that table when you said Winston made a chocolate log.
LOL
LOL
Me too 💩
Same! 🤣💩
I was a bit worried myself. 😄
Apart from being a Superb Chef, any and all of your videos are "must view" because you are such a charming fellow1
blushing Pete, thank you
@@Darren_McGrady
Mr. McGrady, you are adorable❣
Mr. McGrady: We very much enjoy viewing the historic photographs you made whilst working within the kitchens of numerous royal palaces and castles. These behind-the-scene photos offer your viewers a rare and genuine glimpse of royal culinary life. Indeed, your lively and entertaining oral commentary adds, dare we say, icing to the royal cake.
Man, I can’t stop watching your vids and I’m not even cooking. Your channel will blow up.
I appreciate that... AND HOPE SO!
I second that!
@@karaamundson3964I 3rd that.
Darren is a sweetheart. I feel like I am sitting in the kitchen hearing him tell his stories... I guess you burn the moss with the wine on the log... I absolutely love this. It IS good luck.
It is so pleasant seeing you cooking and telling all the Royal Stories… I can’t imagine how sad it is going to be Christmas this year 😢 at the Buckingham Palace
For more reasons than one. The Queen has passed on just a matter of months and already her treacherous grandson and his despicable wife are mocking her and trying to destroy her family's reputation by peddling a bogus narrative of persecution and victimhood, all for money and attention. The sooner King Charles strips that vile pair of their royal titles the better.
Few!!!
When chef said Winston had made his own chocolate log. I feared the worst.
Merry Christmas.
My dog makes logs all over the backyard and it's not pretty. 😁
Bahahahaha
I could hardly make myself look!
I know he's a stuffed dog for hygiene reasons but *goodness gracious me*
I love how Winston reacts to the yummies. He is one dog that Can eat chocolate. Give it back to him!!! 🤣🤣🤣
This year, I made my traditional 16 pound boneless prime rib roast. With it, I made Winter squash, turnip, asparagus, mashed potatoes with cream and butter, and biscuits. For appetizers, I made stuffed scallops and stuffed clams, along with shrimp cocktails. For dessert, we had apple pie with vanilla ice cream. For New Years Day, we will have our traditional leg of lamb.
Lay another place at your table I'm on my way, lol.
@@popazz1 I still have two pieces left. If you don't come for them, they are going into the freezer! :) I got a nice big leg of lamb yesterday. That will be my project for later today. :)
May I ask what you stuffed the scallops with and how you did it? Scallops don't look like things you can 'stuff'
@@pomelo9518 Basically, they were huge ocean scallops that were covered with a stuffing mix and then baked.
@@waynejohnson1304 Thanks lol. Also sorry for late reply, I tend to be a procastinator.
One of my favorite combos: the Royals and Christmas! Those cakes are all beautiful.
Fantastic! I remember one year I made a Buche de Noel for the chef at school and she loved my rendition. I made a sponge and ganache exactly like the one you made except I marbled some mocha buttercream in it and using a star tip I piped the “bark” if you will onto the cake that way. Made some merengue mushrooms lightly dusted with Dutch cocoa, piped some icing holly on it and wella Buche de Noel.
I am so happy I found your channel Chef!
Dude, I wish I was part of the staff that had to quarantine this Christmas with the Queen this year... that place looks so magical this time of year
Winston's made his own chocolate log too...HAHAAA!! I'll bet he has left a stinky little present for the Queen
I grew up in the Deep South of the US on the Mississippi River, next door to Louisiana. Creole cooking greatly influenced our cuisine. It was not the usual rathe bland fare from the agrarian parts of the South, but highly spiced a la Creole. Our Christmas specialities were ambrosia, pumpkin pie, and toasted pecans as well as many others. The turkey was stuffed and served with a cornbread based “dressing” (as Southerners call it). The inevitable turkey sandwiches were slathered with “Jezebel Sauce”, a savory/sweet homemade condiment. I still make it every year as gifts. Love your channel and all your stories ❤️
Chef Darren, My wife and I really enjoyed your YPO fireside chat Saturday. Loved all the inside the Royals 'stories, the Royals' food favorites and fun cooking ideas. Wonderful holiday wishes to you and your family!
Chef Darren, what an inspiring man you are. What you experienced and achived trough all the years. Im sure there was hard and stressfull times, not an easy job but im also sure that you always can look back to the past with a big smile .
My family in Midwest USA 🇺🇸 made pecan coconut date balls 🎄🎅
Can you do the turkey recipe? Or even THE WHOLE ROYAL CHRISTMAS MENU? 😂😂
Yay! I'd love this. (It would probably be about six hours long.)
Yes please.
Yes!! Please a proper Christmas Turkey recipe and demonstration with stuffing!!
Darren, I’m a native Brit. I love cooking all the festivities we have in the uk at Christmas , here in USA for 35+ years now. We just don’t make Christmas the same. No cake In uk I made 5 for people that placed orders with me. I made 2 1/2 doz mince pies made my own mincemeat too. ( small ) to freeze to hold over till Christmas Eve. I baked before then of course. . Puddings. Stuffing. Trifle. You said it so much food……..
Love this Patti
That looks amazing! And thank you for cutting a slice and giving us a close up shot of the cake! :)
Hello, Chef. I’m a bit late to this video, but can’t wait to try this new recipe too. Thank you!
I’m a Yank, and my family is Slovenian by descent. Before she immigrated to America, my grandmother was apprenticed to a baker and learned to make potica (poh-tee-tsah). We make the traditional walnut filling with ground walnuts, honey, ❤😂spices, lemon and orange zests, and raisins plumped in whiskey. That mixture I spread on top of whipped egg whites which had, in turn, been spread on top of pastry dough. Then everything is jelly rolled and baked. Yummy!
My family likes to have feast of the 7 fishes Christmas day. Christmas eve everyone loves to come home from Candlelight service and have lasagna, eggplant parmesan, neckbones in sauce, sweet italian sausage and home made meatballs in sauce, cheesy garlic bread and a massive salad. Then we bake cookies... So many! Even pizzelles.
So Love Watching You Cook These Delicious Meals That You’d Prepare For The Royal Family,I Have To Say The Deserts Could Be My Favorite😊Enjoy You Telling The Stories Of Each Dish & Who Liked What Etc; Thank You So Much Of You Including The Late “Princess Diana” As She Will Never Be Forgotten😊God Bless❤
I love watching these treats prepared!
I don't know how anyone make it through a Christmas like that without at least 6 naps. I'd have to nap after every meal and tea service!
Love the stories and the practical tips!
When I watch your videos I feel like a family friend is telling me fairytales by a cosy fire!youre a wonderful narrator :)

Thank you for the story of the Christmas Yule log
I really enjoy your shows. Thanks for sharing your life with the Royals.
Absolutely adore you and your videos❤ You seem so kind , caring and knowledgeable. Love the stories you share about the Royal Family ❤ Keep going Darren!👍
Very nice Darren, as usual!
Your techniques with food is truly amazing!! Delicious chocolate log 👍👍
Amazing storytelling as always, Darren! Sounds like a jolly time for the entire family with all that food! Man, Christmas for the British Royal family really does sound like a military operation like you once mentioned in an interview last year with Yahoo UK. That Yule log looks so good! My whole family loves chocolate and my mom doesn't really like frosting to be honest. If I make a Yule log this year, I'll probably go ganache instead of frosting as well.
A wonderful tutorial on how to make a chocolate log. And one for for Her Majesty!
Thank you.
Great job today on the YPO virtual event. It was so great hearing and learning from you. Best wishes and happy holidays!
My favorite Christmas treat: Buche de Noel ! TY Chef!!
I like hearing your stories
Absolutely beautiful. I hope you will be able to put more royal Christmas desserts out. Thank you. And God bless.
Glad to see that you keep getting more and more subscribers! Love the channels, one of my favorite CZcams chefs!!
Just beautiful!
You make it look so easy!
Oh my God!......that looks soooooo good!
This is so special to see this work presented to us by Chef McGrady.
That certainly looks homemade!....I’d imagined it would have to be perfect and really fancy for the Queen!
How wonderful!
That gorgeous log makes me really hungry. Maybe soon we can actually gather with family and friends to celebrate holidays. Thank you Chef!
7:14 Beautiful cake decorating you slipped in!!! I've never seen anything like it before.
In Italy We made the Christmas Log as well in my Family it's always a tradition
Beautiful /helpful tips!!!
just found your channel yesterday and have been binge watching your videos. it’s just so nice to see how passionate you are with cooking! you’re such a lovely person! sending love and support from singapore 🇸🇬 ✨
I much enjoy watching him explain the food, recipes, preparation, and cooking. My former inlaws were from Britain and I'm familiar with a good many of these foods.
I need to think back when all my family was present at our family home in Knoxville, Tennessee in the mid 1960's.
The menu was heavily influenced by my mother, who was very traditional in her outlook on Christmas dinner. Along with the regular fare; (i.e. A Huge turkey, with a large serving of dressing with marshmallows and allot of gravy, a Large Ham was present along with sides that included mashed potatoes, mashed sweet potatoes, a green bean casserole, breads, such as roles and jam plus, we enjoyed two family favorites Casserole tomatoes and for dessert, Chocolate stacks. ( more on them in a minute!)
The amount of butter and cream present was legendary to say the least! Nobody in our family cared for any substitutes and diets were something never discussed at all!
As far as beverages were concerned they ranged from water, coke, tea and milk along with coffee to top off the meal. Champagne was served during the meal too.
After all this, the adults enjoyed drinks while my brother and I spent our time enjoying our presents.
Casserole Tomatoes consisted of large stewed tomatoes made with butter, sugar and torn slices of white bread mixed together in a baking dish. these were baked in the oven at 350 for one hour. It was a family tradition since World War II.
Chocolate Stacks , also a World War II addition, were a stack of semi sweet chocolate cookies usually five high interspersed with layers of spiked( usually bourbon, or rum) whipped cream and crowned by Maraschino cherries.
I’ve heard of the Yule log and this one looks delicious 🤤
Cheers Chef Darren from USA, lovely to share your calm ,warm English charming instruction for Yule Log, how delightful! You are a treasure.
A wonderful presentation, thanks.
Thank you Darren, potato starch is a really great tip.👍
Thank you Chef!
I think I can try this for the first time ever. I am a decent homemaker, and always knew of the Yule Log dessert, but never tried it myself.. being an American, we often would have dark red cherry cobbler for dessert on Christmas. The pretty red of the cherries looks festive! Thank you for such an enjoyable episode. :)
I can't bear it.......l'm turning inside out with desire 😋😋😋😋 you're amazing and so easy to listen to. Thank you ♡
Made the yule log and it came out awesome! Looking forward to having it on Christmas.
Hi Darren. Merry Christmas. My family is Greek, so we like to bake a lot and give out to Non-Greek Friends. We like to bake Baklava, Melomakaronia (Honey Dipped Christmas cookie) and Kourambedes (A shortbread style cookie covered in Powdered Sugar). LOL, usually there's not a lot of leftover cookies left in my household!
awesome! thats looks so good. reminds me of my grandmas house growing up. We called it a Buche de noel. She would make mincemeat pies, plum pudding, maple mousse, sugar cookies...the list was endless. No one was hungry after a Christmas day meal at her house.
Happy Christmas to you and your family Darren! Thank you for sharing this! I definitely want to try this recipe! My holiday traditions include making homemade Hungarian cookies called Kiffles! Cheers! 🎄🎄🎄
best video I've seen all day! love the Christmas videos! you are my fav chef
It looks so appealing! Because I’m having surgery this week I might not be able to make it for Christmas. But I’m definitely going to attempt it this winter! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for this traditional Christmas dessert Darren. Well, it's now my tradition too.
You are very welcome
I enjoy watching Darren's videos there lovely!
I dont celebrate christmast and dont cook (I'll try to cook one day) but i love watching your videos because you really bring joy. ❤❤
what i love about your recipe is that using potato starch instead of wheat flour makes it gluten free. I will try making it for sure. Thank you!
Thank you for sharing. A a chocoholic that looks so tasty and good.
My aunt would take the tines of a fork drag across the frosting to make "bark". Add holly leaves and red berries.
Beautiful and looks so yummy!
Thank U so much Chef U made this super eassily
Why do I watch Darren's videos? IDK, they just make me feel happy, and I don't know why.
Hi Darren ~ this looks delish. I must try it! I have created an outstanding recipe for an Orange Pecan Irish Whiskey cake. I make it once every few years...it is rich and decadent. It has a hard caramel shell you have to whack open to get to the cake. It's divine.
That sounds devine!
@@katyb2793 How did they get pecans over in Ireland?
What a lovely video! Loved the intro
Winston looks very festive 🎄
I LOVE your videos-your presentations are WONDERFUL, and YOU are adorable!
I spent some time in both England and France over the years, and I love traditions of both countries. I have made Bunche de Noel many times. My favorite cake for it is a chocolate soufflé cake roll sponge. I make it very similar to yours. Because I have wonderful nieces and young people who love these cakes, I also add Christmas poinsettia confection flowers and merengue mushrooms to the cake decorations. Can’t tell you how much I am enjoying your videos. Thank you for all your efforts, memories, and for sharing your amazing skills! So glad to have found you.
Thanks for sharing Linda
Do you cater for weddings because when the time comes, it would be wonderful to enjoy food cooked by one of the finest chefs in the world!
Very nice!!! I always look forward to a new Darren video!!! Happy Holidays!!!
