    THIS STORY:
Ottilie "Tillie" Klimek was a Polish American serial killer, active in Chicago. According to accounts, she pretended to have precognitive dreams, accurately predicting the dates of death of her victims, when in reality, she was merely scheduling their deaths.

    THIS CHANNEL:
    _________________________________________________________
The Angel face you see is the Haserot, named “The Angel of Death Victorious". The stoic angel is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. Holding an extinguished torch upside-down, it represents a symbol of life extinguished. Wings are outstretched and the gaze is straight ahead.
IN THE END, DEATH ALWAYS WINS. LEST THE FACES NOT BE FORGOTTEN...
This channel is focused on casually walking and viewing a handful of the thousands of forgotten names and faces at various cemeteries near and afar. Seeing their faces up close. And when able, telling the stories behind their names.
Most graves are unknown and lost to history.
    Some are famous.
    And some infamous....
    ....and some with tragic endings.

Joe Klimek was my wife’s great uncle. Her family’s story was that when Joe got sick he went into the hospital and Tillie kept bringing him food insisting it was better for him than the hospital food. When doctors noticed that he was getting sicker after Tillie’s visits they got suspicious. Joe was a really big guy, a blacksmith by trade. That’s probably what saved him while having such a high level of arsenic in his system.

Interesting stuff in police archives. During World War 2 our city was home to the Air Corps navigator training program. Mid 1943 an Army female clerk was found dead of strangulation and laying on RR tracks semi secluded by vegetation. The case was never solved but there was hundreds of pages of reports and interviews.
So 2007/2008 a couple of my crime scene techs decided to try their hand at cold case investigation. Both were superb experienced CSI by this time with excellent attention to detail. Short story they combed and sorted every detail. They ended up with a Number 1 suspect, an Army officer. The officer had been trying to get into the victim's skirt for quite a while, so there were lots of stories from the WAC's co-workers in the office.
With the #1 suspect identified then came the hunt for the suspect. Again a long story but he had shipped out to the Pacific theater of war shortly after the homicide. He was killed in action somewhere, somehow. So you could say justice was served.
I was pretty proud of the superb work which took a couple months. The suspect was staring at the police the entire time in 1943 in their reports and beyond. We even were able to get photos of all the victim's co-workers, and I'll just say I'm really glad those hairstyles went out of fashion.
After retiring I dove into family genealogy big time. That lead to so many interesting rabbit trails uncovering hanky-panky in the 1830's and other embarassing stuff. But it also confirmed and fleshed a number of family legends, like my dad's mom seeing Russian soldiers in the central Netherlands(Holland) in 1918. Long story how that mystery got solved but thanks to a history buff in Holland I found the Russians were POW's of the German Army. Incredible as I'd given up ever discovering what grandma was talking about.

In those days poison was easy to come by and often very difficult to detect until there were too many 'coincidental' deaths. It made sense for a woman to choose this method since they usually prepared the food. Still, it's hard to imagine how a person could poison a supposed loved one and watch them suffer and die.

It dates from 1863 and in the 40's and 50's was considered one of the 10 most beautiful cemeteries in the country. We think it still ranks right up there! It is a 100 acre site with 24K+ souls resting there. Victims of the Spanish Flu, former slaves, town founders, a murdered 'bootlegger' and family members of screen icon Jean Seberg among them. There is also a legend of the haunted mourning chair that has garnered its share of attention. If you should choose to come our way, my husband and I would gladly pay for your overnight accommodations and, having just checked with her, I can could guarantee you'd get a first class tour and history lesson with the Manager, Dorie. There are a lot of gorgeous monuments in that cemetery. She was a sick and scary lady for sure! With her looks, I’m not sure how she managed to snag one husband, let alone several! 😜 😱

Ron mentioned she was a good cook. Her food was away to theses men heart. So she knew how to charm them. It's a sad, sad world out here, even today! We have such a forgiving God and what I have learned growing up in church, if you take your own life, you are NOT forgiving! If you take someone eles life you repent and you are forgiven. To this day, I don't understand stand it😢

I saw Tillie's story profiled on the TV show "Deadly Women." That reported her as an abused wife whose first (?) husband was an alcoholic. She got fed up with him finally and slowly poisoned him. Aft,er that, she began to pass herself off as a psychic, "predicting" the deaths of subsequent husbands and neighbors she hated.

Hello! The pronunciation of Kupczyk would be close to “koup-tschik”. (Just like “Koulik” in Nellie’s name, which was most probably spelled “Kulik” originally). It’s a funny surname meaning “little merchant” (merchant is “kupiec”).
In those times, female murderers often used poison, because you could buy it at the drugstore or whatever and say that it was for the rats or bugs in your house.

What a wild story! Can't believe anyone could really do such a thing. Makes me think of the "Merry Murderesses" in the musical "Chicago.

The description of a community riddled with poisoners (~16:30) sounds like a good premise for a cheeky horror flick.

It’s just amazing to me that all that energy went into killing other human beings. Imagine if she had used her efforts for good!? The poor families and loved ones that were left to mourn. I’m glad she was caught.

The statue at 11:36 is La Pieta (Michael Angelo). It is a sculpture of Jesus lying in Mary's arms after being removed from the cross.
I often contemplate those moments and think of the heartache she endured.

Wait...Did this woman live in the same house during the steady rotation of husbands? Neighbors didn't question that? Crazy. Thank you for the history lesson. Note to self....do not take candy from strangers. The grave markers here are beautiful, especially the lifesize angels. Thank you,
    Peace
