Brian visited Untamed Strength and followed all of these rules.
He even made a video with a title about robbing you!
These rules would save guys like you and I a lot of time and money haha!
Alan visited Neversate Athletics and broke every rule cuz he likes to "TRAIN UNTAAAMMMEDDD". He did however show up on time cuz "Whattyagonna do"? "Not train"?
DID HE MOVE THE BARBELL?
Could you imagine if people applied these rules to some degree throughout their everyday life? Our country would be in a totally different place. Good video as always Sir.
Man it has changed my life for the better. It honestly has, like drastically.
This is what people in life should be like full stop, pure respect!!!
Reminds me of Japan!
All I’m sayin is, since switching from Crunch to Untamed Strength I almost never see plates and dumbbells scattered around, not in their home. The people there put their shit back when they’re done. It’s nice to train in a facility that is actually respected.
"say please sir hurt me more" ~Brian Alsruhe
Work that into a t-shirt and he's got something.
This is more like rules for how to be a respectful adult. A lot of us didn't get the memo along the way.
Completely agree.
Respect is earned, I will never appreciate strangers just because I am allowed to exist in their presence. If I want to work out in a powerlifting or strongman gym then I will pay a monthly fee and go about my business. If the members expect me to be submissive and social then they ought to be so kind as to fuck off. I will of course approach other people with kindness should they desire my attention but that's about it.
One thing I observed at the gyms you are talking about... powerlifting, strongman clubs, is that everyone has so much more respect for the people, equipment and the place.
Its one of the best things you can do.
Great rules Brian!
Totally agree man
see people calling these rules "stressful" honestly all you do is just teaching people some goddamn RESPECT
Some people haven't been taught or modeled to do the right thing. Others of us just need the reminder. But you're right.... boils down to being respectful of others and their environment/time.
I completely agree.
So they're not just rules for the gym they're rules for life.
Can I get an Amen!?
We (well, I) live in a world where this has been devalued. The dishonest and disrespectful accumulate the power to be publicly dishonest and disrespectful and poorly-behaved and prosper all the while. And we see someone who gets to be an asshole on tv and the simplest among us make the association between dishonesty, disrespect, and bad behavior, and they make the association with prosperity. They/we look at their/our own lives and feel our insecurity of situation (better not get sick, that shit's expensive) and think, "if only I could be an asshole on tv."
No one knows how to be ok in group settings. We dread "now go around the room and tell us who you are and a little about yourself," sessions. They fear to ask for help when they need it, and are suspicious of help when they receive it because they/we fear exposing any weakness, lest it be taken advantage of.
It's crap. The whole point of civilization is that we all do better when we function as a community.
I can relate to the late training partner dilemma. I had a mate i trained with for about a year and he was constantly late or a no show. I was serious about training and this dude was a super nice guy but always had excuses. He never figured out how disrespectful it was and couldn't understand my psychotic sessions with him when he did show up.
I was punishing him within the law.
Hahaha
Thanks again Sir! I appreciate everything you do for this community!
Thanks brother!
This is also good advice for starting a New Job. White Belt mentality and be humble, always
Always White belt mentality brother. That's how people become great!
This really is the key to a life full of reciprocal respect. In fact, as a supervisor at a machine shop, I need to talk to one of my younger guys about his attitude with others, and this is the analogy that I'm going to use to help him wrap his "white belt" brain around the concept of how to gain respect over time. Thanks Tegronixxl. Oh, and have a happy new year!
Great advice. Thanks for all of the advice you've given out over the last year it's very appreciated. Here's to an even more successful 2019!
You too brother!
Happy new year Brian! Here's to stronger people, including you and me, in 2019! May our family always be blessed with abundance of health and happiness :)
You too! Thanks!
Brian's experience and knowledge on strength and conditioning is immense. But this channel doesn't care so much about growing physically larger or stronger, but about growing your heart and soul. And that is what keeps me coming back every time I see the notification. Thanks for all the work you've done Brian, have a blessed new year.
Thank you so much for this Victor
Following this advise was great, I just joined a personal gym with some hard working, very passionate people. I was more scared due to feeling weaker then the rest and scared to mess up. After keeping your advise in mind, My growth has grown so much. Thank you for such helpful advise
Brian, this is such good advice. This is the stuff that may take some people forever to get. Thank You.
Did rogue glue that hat to your head 3 years ago?
Andy MacMillan funny MAN, funny.
Strangely enough The Loyal brand is making a Neversate hat for me as we speak!
Makes me wonder does he have hair hahaha
Brian Alsruhe you mean for all of us??
Brian Alsruhe please let us know when they hit because I am surely picking one up!! I’ve never been to your gym but I plan on making a visit this year. I love every single one of your videos. Currently adopting your training style and I’m watching your videos and learning along with following your daily workouts. Thank you for all you do!!
Finally ordered a few shirts to help support the channel and payback the great info I've gained here.
Thanks so much man!
Thanks for putting this out there. With all the information out there and as strength sports begin to grow there’s been more and more people that walk around like they know it all already. They don’t know how to connect with people in the gym either. Thanks again.
Totally agree
My NeverSate shirt arrived today! I'll be proud to rep it. Moving into week 5 or your powerbuilder program. Have a great new year Brian, I hope you finish 2019 healthy.
People actually are amazed at how much Collin (our son) is so polite. It is something we both do and we make sure we instill it in him
That's what it is all about man!
I know you've said before that you apply a lot of what you learned in lifting and strongman to the rest of your life but these rules are great for just general life too. Keep up the great work Brian!
this is absolutely awesome advise! not only for going to a new gym but for getting into any new place in life, like this is advise for wherever your looking to go!!
I've been able to surround myself with the best possible ppl and always be welcome everywhere just by following some of those tips, like imagine actually following all of them!
You're the best Brian. Respect is underappreciated. Thank you.
Just commenting to say I came back to this video because I believe it to be the pinnacle of the Iron Culture mindset. This video breathes comradery, hard work and humility brother!
Great content man. Hopefully I have the privilege of training at your facility one day. Thank you for all the advice on overhead press, deadlifts, and squats. Your cues have literally increased and helped all 3 lifts. Keep doing what you do, we're all excited for the 2019 content!
I admire values over strenght. You are the type of person who makes the place as enjoyable as possible. Very good advice.
It´s not that hard, you have to be polite and care about the equipment.
I’ve been thinking about trying out a new gym for a few months lately, awesome video Brian. You are truly an awesome person and thanks for all the knowledge bombs!
Thanks for watching them!
Happy New Year, thanks for all the motivation and advice 🤙😊
You too!
Happy New Years to you and yours. 🍻Here's to an amazing 2019🥂
You too!
Nice man. Makes alot of sense and common sense isnt so common. Learned alot from your channel even though I dont do strong man ... as well as Alan Thrall.have a great one
Thanks so much man!
Brian, you are an inspiring human being. Your attitude is what keeps me and I'm sure many others watching your content. Everyone should try to be more like you this coming year. It really shows that you care about your following considering how many comments you read and reply to. That is true dedication when it comes to internet presence.
I love it. Joined a strongman/powerlifting gym a few months ago and I'm definitely still learning the ropes!
Thanks man!
Happy new year brian!!! I hope this will be an awesome year for you and you get your health problems sorted out
Thanks you too!
Hi Brian I joined a powerlifting gym like a month ago, this video has helped me INMENSELY to subconsciously get across the message that I have good intentions in being nice to them and training hard for strength 🙏🙏😇😌👍
I’m so glad!
Love your videos. Love the enthusiasm you have💪
Brian, this video should be named how to join any group. Everything you have said is so true of joining any gym, club, team, job and sort of dating as you say :-). Good luck in 2019 sir!
Thank you so much!
As always, thank you for the knowledge!
Well said Brian, common decency is and will always be king.
Totally agree!
Thanks for this...I'm looking for a new place that specializes and this helps validate that decision. So glad I caught this before setting foot in a new spot.
Well said Brian. Hope you and yours have a happy new year!
Thank you so much and you too!
:) Well Said big man. A Healthy and Happy New Year to you and yours.
Thanks brother you too!
Great video and message, Brain. A lot of the message can be easily translated to life outside of the gym. My football coach drove into our team, if you arrive on time, you're late. To this day I get nervous if I'm not ready for an appointment, etc if I'm not there and ready to go before the start time.
Also, slay puppy music is a hilarious description! haha
Hahah thanks man!
Good video!!! Great message!! It is true pretty much all of the fundamentals in life you learn in kindergarten. I don’t know why so many people in this world have forgotten that. Treat others how you wanna be treated, share, be nice to the new “student.” Be the better person no matter what.
I totally agree brother!
Excellent advise! For the gym and everyday life!
"Please, sir, hurt me more" - definitely don't say that out loud. Then the girls REALLY won't want to hug you.
Dude, these are solid rules! I'd love to open a small gym in my area that caters to serious lifters, and would definitely need to establish rules so folks are aware.
Definitely man and maybe you will be the one to build it!
Life 101. Thanks man, really appreciate you.
This is good advice for anything in life. Work, school, etc.
Thanks so much mate! So much good advice all the time. Hopefully you know though we really appreciate all you provide to us stalker types haha. This is real timely actually as there is finally a new Strongman / Powerlifting gym that has just opened up in my home town so I'm super excited about it. Will use a bunch of these tips and smash out the program I got off you before Christmas ;-)
I got invited to Lock it Out Barbell while I was on TDY at Edwards AFB, and literally these rules you explained will go so far. A member invited me. He and I found David Douglas and I first thanked him for the opportunity to train with them and pretty much all of your day 1 rules that you explained and that whole group made me feel incredibly welcome and fed me so much energy every time I lifted there.
I work as a janitor now and us janitors appreciate your words!
This is great advice for life not just a new gym/group!
Thank you!
Great video Brian. Plenty of advice that is applicable to a new job, to volunteering, to pretty much any other group activity. I recently moved to a different state and joined an off-roading (4x4) club. Much of what you suggest is what I have followed when interacting with the group, to earn my place and be accepted by the group.
Best wishes for a successful and blessed 2019!
I feel like this would apply for work as well!
It has for me!
this video strangely made me want to train by myself even more for whatever reason hahah...but hey, to each their own!
Cool man, I'd personally have my gym environment than that, but like you said, I hope it works for you!
Brian Alsruhe 🙏🏻
I train on my own (home gym), but there's definitely something extremely motivating about training with people stronger than you. I try to make a point of at least doing a drop-in every so often :)
Personally, I'm completely unable to focus on lifting if I'm even with a single friend. I've literally never had a good workour even when I was with people who easily outlift me. When I'm in the gym, I'm in my own mental world and other people are just messing it up for me.
Andrej Pitko ^this...most of the occasions i was lifting with someone they were more of a distraction than a motivation...in my humble opinion that is
Never turned a CZcams video into a bookmark, until today. Thanks.
That is really cool Clay, thank you!
I just started working out at a power lifting and strongman gym the invierment is awesome already. Brought my training to a new level
A year and some change since I’ve trained At neversate and I still try to follow these rules!
Thanks for giving us the insider scoop on how to not be a jerk at a new gym!
Great rules, especially for getting in with a team. Although I generally grind out my workouts alone that has more to do with my schedule and having recently joined a gym after relocating. When finding training partners this is golden advice.
Thanks brother!
@@BrianAlsruheOfficial no brother, thank you for all the great content and motivation. Happy New Year!
Thanks Brian, this is an awesome video. Most "gym rules" type vids are just "don't be creepy, be nice". Ths was way more helpful and specific. I do think it's a little odd that you implied that if I was on my phone between sets it would be "more likely to be thrown on the floor and smashed", but I can see why you might think it was impolite/ compromising somebody's superhero identity.
Happy new year neversate 👍😀💪
Really appreciate this video brian
Thank you for all the great info!

not even just gym advice can convert to life in some instance great video Brian
Thank you so much man!
This is timely, I found a strongman gym in my area and am going to start as soon as I get back to my home state. I’m glad when I asked to try out the gym I did most of these things by nature, but this gave me more perspective, thank you Brian.
If they were natural man, then you won't have any problems at all!
Brian Alsruhe good to hear!
Good video...people really don't get it though no.matter how u try to explain it....happy New Year brian!!!!
Hahaha you know, that feels about right hahah
Great video man!
Thanks!
I live like an hour away from Neversate and I am looking forward to making the trip eventually
A very happy new year my man
You too man!
@@BrianAlsruheOfficial random question..have u ever tried Indian food?
Be an empty cup. Thank you, I haven't heard that in a while! As always, great advice.
Thanks Will!
Happy New Year Brian!
You too Thomas!
Really enjoyed this video. Good life advice
Thanks Will!
Hey Mr,Brian can we get a video about opening your own gym in 2019? Where I live doesn’t have a hardcore powerlifting gym. Fantastic video Mr.Brian have a great day
Absolutely! I already did like a five part series on that but it will be a good thing to re-visit now that I am more stable and have learned more things. Great suggestion, thank you
Great advice Brian. Funny thing is I now live in a house with a garage and I'm now considering putting a home gym together.
Hahah do it man! Then just invite strong people to you!
Happy New Year Bro.
You too brother!
@@BrianAlsruheOfficial Your tips on overhead press and squats.. really helped me.. thanks..love from India🙌
I love this!
Wow!! Gyms sure have changed since I ran one, you paid by the year, month or day guys loved to share their advice on workouts, how to perform certain excersies and shoot the shit and everybody hanging out on the weekends, clubs, picnics, and the beach, your right about training with stronger people they help push you up the weight
Hey Brian! Thanks for the video!
I love this because soon I'm going to join a new gym to step out of my comfort zone a bit. I've always trained alone at commercial gyms and it's time for a change.
Kinda of unrelated to this, but I'll also start BJJ soon. Are you still doing it regularly? Any advice regarding conciliating both things?
Finally, happy new year to you and the Neversate family! I hope everything goes well to you!
That is great brother"! If you are going to be lifting and rolling then your recovery will need too be open point but you can definitely do both at the same time
10 to 15 minutes early? 15 minutes early is on time. Very cool I had forgotten to hit the bell and still got notified. Thank you CZcams :)
AHahah I agree but I figure I had to make it reasonable for people.
Happy New Year's bro
You too man!
It's sad that some people think these rules as problematic. When did we forget respect and commom courtesy?
Yes, I’m kind of surprised at the response. But Most people don’t see the world the way I do anyway
@@BrianAlsruheOfficial Then i would argue in this instance most people are wrong.
I think some of the specifics about doing the same movements and whatnot stem from a team environment here given the way Brian runs classes at NeverSate... People seem to have misunderstood. Being respectful and kind, however, can and should be followed whether you're at NeverSate or Planet Fitness.
Thanks man
There ia no PL our SM gym at Brazil. Justo comercial gyms and CrossFit box in here. And the last one is very expensive. So I will maintain my comercial gym wo, but with your kind of wo. Thanks man!
These are some real rules. I learned something. Some of these rules I do follow, but always greeting people and saying goodbye, no, although I know it's better and it feels better when I do on some days. I do let my life problems get to me and then I am withdrawn from people, but still always kind when spoken to, which incidentally doesn't happen often when I am looking down and just doing my training. I hope to make up for it by at least always cleaning up my stuff and sometimes the weights lying around left by others.
Haha trust me, you are doing fine
Men these are rule for life! Big respect and agree on everything!
Thanks so much man!
Great video. I agree with what you said. The gym i go to now is pretty much like a family.
Stay there!!!
Brian Alsruhe sure will! I’ve gotten a lot stronger since i went there.
you're great bro! cheers
Happy new year Brian! Great video, how do i get lifters to hang out in my garage gym without coming across like a weirdo? lol
Boggles my mind that this needs to be discussed as adults...get even some of this right and you’ll be alright
It boggles my mind how many people seem to feel like this would be hard for them to do haha I am honestly astonished
Gentleman. Well said sir
Thanks for watching it Stewart!
I remember how I used to train in a boxing gym and we always shook hands before the training started. It was a little bit strange, because there were so many people and I think sometimes I missed someone or shook his/her hand twice, but I always tried because I didnt want to be disrespectful.
Wow I’m kind of amazed at the responses. Some of them seem to miss the part about this being a place you want to belong to because it will help you reach your goals. If there is a group that can help you why wouldn’t you adhere to THEIR structure, RESPECT their equipment, Time and effort?
These rules are basic common sense. They aren’t written anywhere at Neversate but I absolutely followed them when I first showed up, and continue to as we move into a new year. They aren’t hard or restrictive. Treat the gym with respect and it is returned to you. Simple.
Another great video brother.
Man, I am so glad you said this. You have WORLD titles and still understand this. Yet some guys who have lifted for 5 years say that they are too hardcore to be nice hahaha. Oh world...
Excellent set of life rules in general.
Thanks Caleb!
I am considering moving from my company's gym to a strongman/powerlifting gym soon and I'm wondering if there's an exception to having the cell phone out. While I make it a point to not be on my cell phone screwing around I do use it to log my sets in Excel and I also use it to time my sets. I suppose if this video has taught me anything it's that I should go see what others do first and then ask, but is there generally any leeway for using a cell phone as a workout tool, and nothing else?
I think it depends on the environment man, if they are cool with it then definitely keep track of your sets but I’d be careful depending on the group. At least on the first tryout
Very cool heads up Brian!
Thanks Thomas!
thats exactly the reason i train at home in my private "gym".
People should raise their kids to already know this stuff!
