Chimney Tops Trail hike in The Great Smoky Mountains National Park

- This morning I left the campground early to take advantage of the awesome weather and hike the Chimney Tops Trail. I wasn’t disappointed, as I had the trail all to myself and once I reached the top I was all alone to take in the beautiful 360 degree views. If you haven’t hiked this trail, definitely put it on your to do list.
I was there about a year ago and there was a gate that wouldn’t let you go out that far. Good to see that they have allowed hikers to go further now. Great video. New follower here. Crow✌️

Glad you enjoyed. It was a bit of a tough hike, but well worth it, once I reached the top and got to take in the awesome views. I hope you make it there one day.

Why did you go around the fence? That area is currently closed off.

John, I thought that part of the trail was closed off. Other videos I’ve seen has a chain link fence keeping people off that area. Is it back open?
We were just there, and it was still blocked off...he must have went around the fence
We just went up on Wednesday 9/27/2023 that portion is closed off. The last .25 miles has been blocked off with a locked gate and sign. It looked like it would take some doing to get around it. Not a fan of this video because it encourages those watching to follow suit and enter an area that is off limits.
I climbed that in the late 50s when there were no stepping stones, a sign at the beginning said that it was a mountain climb not a hike. Made the hike at least 3 times.
